Well, he actually already knows why (spoilers: Jala), but he wants do go deeper (like Jala's mom) to find out just how so much stank can be within one person. As we all know, Zoidberg was a man of communism and animal sacrifice. Doughty, on the other tentacle, is a lot more calm and reserved. It's not obviously known what is wrong with him, yet it's clear as day that something is wrong. Royals Research has invested in the Holo Lens technology to try and simulate what Jala goes through every day. After studying him for a couple of weeks scientists discovered his odd random flailing as if he was dodging something. They presented us with an example of what he sees every day: Therapy did not work, so he's currently on his existing medication of cocaine "secretly" stuffed in his hockey stick. Sure, it's caused at least 12 injuries, but it's safer than nothing.
