I took over the Yukon Rush GM job last season and honestly, I've been disappointed with my own performance in the role. I inherited a team that was stacked with picks in a draft that was incredibly top heavy, which meant I could add in four real franchise players in Black Velvet, Unassisted, Tyson Kohler and my player Dmitri Dadonov. It seemed to me inevitable that we'd win the cup and that's probably why we didn't. Other GMs around me were much more active in improving their team down the stretch but I thought it better to avoid blowing up our future and instead focus on keeping things balanced. After making trades that really didn't work out for the team, we didn't even make it to the Founders Cup final, getting beaten in 7 by Ottawa in the second round of the playoffs. That season was a real eye opener for me in terms of the learning process of being a GM. I'd never had any experience of this kind of thing beyond NHL games but I think I've definitely become more aware of where it went wrong and what I need to do so that we go all the way next time round.

This is actually a big reason why I decided to tank this season. Despite losing Unassisted, Velvet and Kohler to the big league, I still had my own player and a handful of draft picks that could've maybe gone to cobbling together some kind of team that may stand a chance to contend, but I made the call instead to move Dadonov out to a contender for a decent return, ensure our own pick would be a top 2 choice and start new. Next season we're going to put ourselves out there as contenders, and I'm going to do everything I can this time around to leave nothing to chance. Honestly though, it's been a lot of fun being a GM and although I've not had any kind of success thus far, I really believe I've learnt enough to give it a real go next time around.

You're a great GM Daniel! Saskatoon has no picks next year and only one returning guy so you're just about guaranteed a playoff spot!

btw Podarok is oh so close to passing Dadonov in TPE :D
