BY THE NUMBERS: A SHIFT BACK INTO POWER

With the magazine off for the week, I was thinking about what to write about for my week’s point task.  It just happened that something pretty major happened this week, and given it involves myself, it seems like something that would be rather simple to write about.  Therefore, this week’s ‘By the Numbers’ is all about the recent GM switch for the Stockholm Vikings, with Jack Voratek stepping down and Christopher Miller jumping back into the spotlight.

14 – The number of seasons that Miller was the General Manager of the New York Americans.  Currently, this ranks as the second longest consecutive reign right behind Jason Glasser who managed the Calgary Wranglers from season twenty-six to forty-one.  During his run with the Americans, Miller led them to two Continental Cup victories, four Victory Cups, four finals appearances and even three David Knight trophies for some more personal hardware.  He did all this despite going through two rebuilds with the team.

24 – It has been twenty-four seasons since the last Continental Cup win by the Stockholm franchise, and that was when they were still in Vasteras.  It is safe to say that despite some solid years with Boubabi at the helm, the Vikings have disappointed in the years where they should have been one of the top contenders.  Additionally, they have only made it to the finals once since season twenty-six and that was in season forty-seven when the team came up short against the New York Americans.

1 – The amount of years Jack Voratek was the General Manager of the Stockholm Vikings.  After fairly lengthy runs as General Manager by Thomas Corcoran (nine seasons) and Benoit Prévost (nine seasons), Jack did not last quite as long as expected.  Unfortunately, despite building a solid core, he was unable to see it through due to other aspects of his life taking up more time than is required.  Therefore, Voratek relinquished the position which will hopefully benefit the team and Voratek, as he now doesn’t have to worry about being on at all times.

6 – The amount of Season 50 players the team just acquired.  We all know about Diana Maxwell and Essian Ravenwing, but the Stockholm Vikings just had a very solid draft.  They also selected Elijah Dotran and Theo Pavlik who have both reported today to the team and accepted their contracts.  Additionally, Misha Tobolsk recently updated and seems like she could be a really great addition for the Vikings.  Finally, Jack Kraken who is the player of former GM Jack Voratek, should still be a quality depth piece to that core.  All in all, Miller truly does believe that every single one of these players has a great chance to end up playing in the Victory Hockey League.  “We were pleasantly surprised to not only land two of the best players in the draft, but to also add two defenders who are well on their way to making the VHL and a couple other guys that we do believe have the ability to be solid depth talents on the Stockholm Vikings.”

24 seasons eh? and it will be a few more until 2 things happen:

1) You move the franchise back to Vasteras

2) acquire one of Phil's or Jeff's players.

great read as always and gratz on re-entering the GMing world!

I don't need either of you or the slimy people of Vasteras.

But if we are really slime, then how come even when moved to Stockholm, the franchise fails?

Just call it a necessary evil!

Cause I wasn't in control obviously.  I have a lot of good fortune on my side.

That's true. I didn't think of it like that. You may me want to go to NYA. Maybe now, I'll make Stockholm my top destination with my 2nd player
