The Journeyman; Francis York Morgan

Now in his seventh year in the VHL, Francis York Morgan has quietly went about his craft for five different VHL teams during his tenure.  After being drafted fifth overall back in the Season Forty-Three VHL Entry Draft, York Morgan has been a solid addition to every blue-line he has patrolled in those seven seasons. As his time winds down in the VHL, we are going to look back at some of highlights of his underrated career.

Heading into his professional draft in the Season Forty-Two VHLM Dispersal Draft, little was known about the young defenseman from British Columbia. With a loaded VHL draft in Season Forty-Two, York Morgan wasn’t the first choice on many franchises and ended up slipping to the last pick in the first round, held by the Ottawa Lynx. Morgan had a good year in his only season in the VHLM with the Lynx, putting up fourteen goals and sixty-nine assists during the regular season. He continued that strong play into the playoffs for the Lynx, helping push the much better Minot team to the brink of elimination. Morgan put up seven points during his seven games, letting the VHL world know just before the draft that his west coast kid was the real deal.

The next big event on the map for Morgan after his good VHLM season was the Season Forty-Three VHL Entry Draft. The strong play down the stretch for the Lynx paid off for Morgan, as he caught the eye of the Stockholm Vikings scouting staff, who went on to draft the Canadian defenseman fifth overall. With a strong roster built heading into Season Forty-Three, Morgan was brought right into the VHL his first eligible year by the Vikings, suiting up for all the Vikings seventy-two regular season games and five games in the playoffs. His rookie season was just an introduction of himself to the league, but without being able to find himself a solid home, York Morgan became an after though for most VHL fans.

We`ll skip ahead a few seasons to the Season Forty-Seven off-season, where York Morgan finally started to see the fruits of his labor. York Morgan along with two others were traded from the Calgary Wranglers to the Toronto Legion, just when Toronto was about to take over the VHL. Morgan spent two full seasons in Toronto and made the most of his glorious opportunity playing with the league’s best roster.  In his first season in Toronto, Morgan put up a career high in assists with sixty-one, and points with seventy-nine. Not to be done in his final season in Toronto in Season Forty-Nine, Morgan put up a career high in points, topping his numbers the prior season by two.

Over the course of a seven season career, York Morgan has accumulated two Continental Cups, and 1 bronze medal from the VHL world cup. Although he has never been rewarded by the league, he has the admiration of his fellow VHLers for sure.

Nice article here. Well done. Didn't notice any grammar or spelling issues. I think when talking about the VHLM draft it was a little confusing. You said with the VHL draft loaded he slipped to the bottom of the first round selected by the Ottawa Lynx.  Otherwise good job.
