Dear VHL GMs,

@eaglesfan036, @YEAH!stlemania, @brovy, @Banackock, @Molholt, @gregreg, @Gooningitup, @Daniel, @Toast, @Advantage

I am writing you this letter in the hopes that you’ll take me into consideration when scouting for the Season 52 draft. I feel like I will be a suitable addition to any team, and I will also be sending each of you a personalized letter, discussing precisely why I would fit in with your team.

Let me first start by saying that growing up, I was an avid fan of the VHL. I’ve watched with Pride as Team Western Europe won multiple golds and watched some of my idols be inducted into the VHL Hall of Fame. I’ve supported the Calgary Wranglers my whole life, as Alberta, Canada, is a place I intend to visit before I leave this world.

I was never good at expressing my strengths and weaknesses. Suffice to say that I think I have the speed, shooting accuracy, and hockey IQ to make it anywhere I go in this very prestigious league. Because of this, I have asked a few of my coaches and mentors to say a few words about my skills. I have left their contact information at the bottom in case you would like to verify the quotes. If you have any questions, feel free to email or call me back at any time. If I don’t pick up, then I’m either sleeping or training.

“Shankly’s explosive. There’s really no other way to describe him. His first few strides on the ice are some of the quickest I’ve ever seen. Combine that with the fact that he’s already 6’3”, and you have a forward that can get from his zone to the attacking zone in mere seconds. Because of this, he’ll excel at any dump and chase offensive plays. You can guarantee he’ll beat the defenseman to puck… and if he doesn’t….”

~ Alan Smith; coach of the Liverpool Lasers

“His massive size and speed will send defensemen, forwards, coaches, and fans into shock. He will strike fear into any opposition just by being on the ice. You’d think that with his big stature, he’d be laying out a lot of dirty hits, since he’s taller than most of the players he comes up against, but he has a remarkable awareness of where his opponents’ frames are, and will always manage to get himself low and square to the player to make the clean hit.”

~John Watson; VHL scout

“It’s difficult to say just one thing about Shankly. Looking at him, you’d reckon that he’s the goon, the enforcer, but as soon as he gets possession of the puck, he won’t lose it until he’s made a pass, or the puck’s in the back of the net. He’s got that innate ability that all scorer’s do. That shooter’s instinct that shows you where the gaps in the goalies are. There will be times where he gets the puck with 3 guys swarming him and the goalie’s well positioned, but still manages to find the back of the net. It’s uncanny”

~Phil Rafter; Talent Manager of the Liverpool Lasers.

“One thing he’ll have to work on are special teams and special plays. He does have great instincts on the ice, but if we’re running a set play, or a planned strategy for the penalty kill or powerplay, Shanker may not follow those plays. He’ll do what he thinks is best. Usually he has the right idea, but since his teammates don’t know what he’s thinking, his adjustments don’t always work. He’s got to understand that not everyone has the same hockey IQ as he does and more importantly. If the team agrees on a play, then stick to the damned play!”

~Alan Smith

“Not surprising that a big man should need to work on his hands. With his gargantuan stick length, controlling the puck will always be an issue. The only times where it looks like he has hands like Thomas O’Malley is when he’s receiving a pass in a shooting position. But in open play, he’s less confident.”

~John Watson

“A guy this big is always a target, especially if he, like Shankly, can shoot the puck. He must learn to not take the bait. He’s gotten himself into trouble a number of times with penalties because of it. Never an instigator, but has tremendous pride in his abilities, and if an opponent starts chirping, then he’ll be on them faster than ants at a picnic. Got to control himself and develop a tougher layer of skin”

~Phil Rafter

Review:

Very unique Rookie Profile style! Looks like Shankly is a future stud power forward! I used to know a John Watson too. One big problem: you didn't leave any sort of area code or phone number! Just an email, smh. What if they wanted to have a quick chat? You need to think this shit through, man. If you need help working on your hands you can always come "train" with me..... ;)
