jRuutu 2,483
I have been living in Saskatoon for few weeks now and I must admit that the place is not that much different than Tampere. Both cities have roughly the same amount of people, so I have been able to walk around freely and enjoy the city without having to worry about too much. No crazy people trying to sell you something or trying to rob you. Never know what you get when moving to totally new city, but quite surprisingly I can already say that Saskatoon is almost feeling like home ! The actual reason why I moved here was hockey. That part has not been so positive, or at least for the team that is. Struggling to get wins, but I have managed to play quite well. Scored few goals, but that has not always been enough to get us the wins. If things are not going so well on ice, everything is going really well off the ice! Facilities are top notch here, few gyms and a practice rink just for Saskatoon players is open every day of the week, so I can get on the ice and practice whenever I want. That is huge for me, when I was a kid, I used to spend a lot of time each day playing on outside rink and now I can do the same thing here, but on a whole new level. This is where the magic happens There has been other cool things than just the facilities, for example, last Monday me and Buddy Nielsen visited a school quite near to our home arena. I have actually never done anything like that before, so everything was totally new and the language barrier was a factor. I have spoken English in the past few weeks more than ever before, but that is really only way to learn it, need to go out there and speak with people. One thing to write English well, much harder to actually speak it well. I was really nervous before we went to see the kids, but luckily Buddy handled most of the talking at first which allowed me to feel more relaxed with everything. The kids were all quite small, maybe ten years old? Not sure really, but we sat in front of the class and the kids asked questions. Mostly about what it´s like to be a hockey player and when Saskatoon is actually going to win some games. You could tell they follow the team really closely, some of the kids even knew I was from Finland! That was quite nice and surprising since I just moved here. We were there for one hour or so, just talking with the kids and signing some stuff for them. Before we actually left, we gave every kid in the class few tickets for the last home game of the season! It´s important that we can give something back to the community who follows the team no matter what happens on the ice. Devise 4,475
Lies. Nowhere in any place in Saskatchewan could the words "nice" be used to describe it. If you were to say flat, boring, uneventful, or even hellhole, that would be more appropriate. But if you wanted to use it, you could say it was nice when I left the province to travel to literally anywhere else. jRuutu 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/33308-claimedsaskatoon-is-a-nice-place-reviewed/#findComment-369285 Share on other sites

Not as bad as Regina but pretty close! Hey fuck you guys! It is a perfectly fine place. Yeah there's some greasy parts, but what city doesn't have ghettos? That said, I live in a pretty nice, old neighbourhood now which is like a block away from the city hospital. And today as I was chilling inside I just hear some woman's blood-curdling scream. It was right out of a stereotypical slasher movie where the stupid broad finds her stupid boyfriend dead in the closet which his dick sewn in his own asshole or something gruesome like that. Anyway, I put on my shoes and go outside to see what's going on, and I notice at least a couple other people doing the same. I walk to the corner of the street to see if I can get a look at some kind of commotion, but there doesn't seem to be any. But across the street walking the other direction I note this sketchy looking native fellow. But he doesn't seem to be fleeing a rape or murder so whatever. Anyway, I can't find a source of screaming, so I turn around to walk back to my house, and I see this native dude again now also turned around and walking in the opposite direction as me. So I'm thinking like, "tf?" Then he yells at me across the street, "Hey, are you waiting for someone right now?" and I'm like, "Uhh, what? No?" And he's like, "Oh, sorry, I'm just waiting to meet someone now, I thought you might be him." So he's obviously meeting for a drug deal. And before I even walk back into my house he meets the guy he was waiting for (very unseemly, a quite old fat white guy), and they do the stereotypical handshake/drug exchange. Literally right across the street from my house. Then they walk off together. So I went inside and, for the first time of my life, made a point of locking my doors while I was still inside. But yeah, other than that, it's good stuff. I'm sure you Calgary turds always have to lock your doors when you're home because you'll literally get murdered if you don't. That's one nice thing about a smaller city. Other than today when there's drug deals occurring outside your home. jRuutu 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/33308-claimedsaskatoon-is-a-nice-place-reviewed/#findComment-369345 Share on other sites
jRuutu 2,483
At least the guy who was buying the drugs sounded friendly, said hey and everything. Could have been a lot worse. I actually haven't stayed in the province since I was little. All my issues with it stem from how boring it is to drive through with very little to see or do. Also I'm not in Calgary anymore. Red Deer, which is a small city as well. Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/33308-claimedsaskatoon-is-a-nice-place-reviewed/#findComment-369378 Share on other sites

Yeah, I was being tongue-in-cheek with my aggression, I'm not really offended at all. It is in fact a terrible drive to Alberta. Edmonton isn't so bad since it's double lanes the whole way. Red Deer gets points for being by Slyvan Lake, which is my favourite. Hopefully we can grab you in the entry draft as well. Always nice to see athletes giving back to the community. Just remember, at least we aren't Bratislava!
