Toast 887
Grigory Kopralkov MS -- Commissioner Toast reports for duty RIGA, LATVIA — Late last week, the VHLM found their replacement for the VHLM Co-Commissioner position, and they have turned to current Riga Reign GM Steve Smeall. Smeall has had quite the involvement with the league dating back to his run as the Brampton Blades GM as well as being the player agent for several VHLMers over the past so many seasons, including Grigory Kopralkov who just closed off his campaign with the Ottawa Lynx. Smeall was also named general manager for Team World in the upcoming World Cup and will be looking for a way to guide a relatively young roster to a medal if all goes well and these skills seem to somewhat relate with the VHLM Co-Commish job title. “I’m very excited for this opportunity,” said Smeall. “I’m always looking for ways to further myself in the league’s involvement and becoming a co-commish of the VHLM is the perfect way to continue that trend. I look forward to helping guide the future stars of the VHL.” This job is not an easy one, as has been found out by several people who have held the job through the seasons. The challenge for everyone in this position is to find ways to keep player interest high during their seasons in the minor league, which has seemed to be a struggle over the seasons. Of course, there is also the issue of the seemingly inactive teams spread throughout the league. All issues that Smeall plans to take a look at through the upcoming off-season. “The Board of Governors has put a lot of faith in me by giving me this chance,” said Smeall. “I need to do whatever it is that I can to make sure that the league is thriving going forward. I have a lot to live up to after all.” Smeall replaces long-time co-commissioner Austin Gow, who put in lots of work through his seasons with the job title. Gow now moves on to handle the league’s recruitment branch that reaches out to young players hoping to get them to start their careers in the VHL. The most important part of the upcoming off-season will be to make sure that the draft class is strong after the horrific failure that is the S51 VHL Entry Draft class, where Smeall will be heavily involved with as well. There is a lot on Smeall’s plate going forward for the off-season with World Cup involvement, a 2nd-overall pick in the Entry Draft, and a new job to figure out. However, it seems that Smeall is looking forward to the high expectations for himself going forward. “I’ve always felt like someone who has never really stepped up for the league,” said Smeall. “Then I led Team Western Europe to a gold medal and everything seemed to roll from there. The Riga GM spot, and now the opportunity to help dictate where this league will be heading going forward. I have confidence in myself to live up to the expectations and will do what it takes to make sure that I do not disappoint in any way.” CowboyinAmerica and eaglesfan036 2 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/33615-claimedcommissioner-toast-reports-for-duty-reviewed/ Share on other sites
FacePuncher 1,343
Review: the VHL wants to make it seem like eaglesfan stepped down, but really he was just fired after that S51 draft class. I'm glad to be working under you(giggity!) and you have done a lot of awesome work so far! Looking forward to a long career hopefully. 516 words Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/33615-claimedcommissioner-toast-reports-for-duty-reviewed/#findComment-373960 Share on other sites
