TheLastOlympian07 2,388
To carry one from what I started last week, I will be looking at the Season 1 draftees from the Calgary Wranglers. 1st Round, 6th Overall: Left Wing Scott Boulet Career Reg Season: 432 GP | 349 G | 388 A | 737 P Career Playoffs: 50 GP | 29 G | 39 A | 68 P Here we have one of the greatest players to suit up for the VHL. How he fell to 6th overall is beyond me. He played his whole 432 game career plus 50 more in the playoffs with the Calgary Wranglers. In the regular season, he scored 349 goals and assisted on 388 goals for a total of 737 points. This is tied for 37th all time or somewhere around there. Although, it was top 5 at the time of his retirement. He also scored 39 goals and assisted on 39 goals for 68 points in 50 playoff games. He is a back to back champion with the Wranglers in Season 2 and Season 3. He was one of the first players named to the Hall of Fame and now has a trophy named after him in the form of the Best Two-Way Forward Trophy aka the Scott Boulet Trophy. 2nd Round, 11th Overall: Goaltender Drew Barclay Career Reg.Season: 134 GP | 101 W | 17 L | 4 OTL | 0.898 SV% | 2.64 G.A.A | 6 SO | 0 A Career Playoffs: 19 GP | 12 W | 4 L | 1 OTL | 0.897 SV% | 3.11 G.A.A | 0 SO Drew Barclay had the honor of suiting up for one of the best best teams in history. He went 69-3 in Season 1 but from there he stopped practicing which lead to the Wranglers replacing him come Season 2. His career record is pretty amazing if you think about it though, 101 wins - 17 losses - 4 overtime losses. That will never be replicated again ever in the history of this league. His 0.898 save percentage isn't too bad either to go along with a G.A.A of 2.64. He went 12-4-1 in the playoffs but never won the big one. Just think how much better his career would be if be practiced and stuck with the legendary Calgary Wranglers from Season 1 - Season 3. 3rd Round, 17th Overall: Center Brad Janssen Career Reg.Season: 579 GP | 282 G | 421 A | 703 P Career Playoffs: 51 GP | 16 G | 26 A | 46 P How Brad Janssen fell to the third round is a mystery but how he is not in the Hall of Fame is a Crime. The man has played 579 games, scoring 282 goals while assisting on 421 goals for 703 points in his career. He is a 3 time Continental Cup Champion with the Calgary Wranglers, Helsinki Titans and the Avangard Havoc (HC Davos Dynamo). He has played in 51 playoff games scoring 16 goals and assisting on 26 goals for 46 points. Overall, he is a great player and is one of the worst snubs from the VHL Hall of Fame history. 4th Round, 32nd Overall: Defenseman Lucas Smith Career Reg.Season: 504 GP | 123 G | 234 A | 357 P Career Playoffs: 34 GP | 6 G | 20 A | 26 P Lucas Smith was a surprisingly good pick at 32nd overall. He played in 504 games in his career. He scored 123 goals while assisting on 234 goals for 357 points. He was apart of the Season 2 Cup winning team as part of the Wranglers before being traded and bouncing around late in his career. Smith was one of the best depth defenders of all time in my opinion which is a weird thing to say but he was solid 2nd pairing guy. He finished with 34 playoff games played, 6 goals and 20 assists for 26 points. 5th Round, 40th Overall: Defenseman Shawn Howard Career Reg.Season: 433 GP | 56 G | 239 A | 295 P Career Playoffs: 36 GP | 3 G | 11 A | 14 P Shawn Howard was released shortly after being drafted and went on to have a decent career as a journyman stay at home defender. He played in 433 games scoring 56 goals and assisting on 239 goals for 295 points. He played 36 playoff games scoring 3 goals and assisting on 11 for 14 points. He signed with the Amstel Tigers before being traded to the Seattle Everblades then to the Toronto Legion before finally going out on top with the Helsinki Titans. Overall a pretty decent career and one I feel like I regret ending early. 6th Round, 41st Overall: Right Wing Cody Banks Career Reg.Season: 430 GP | 118 G | 173 A | 291 P Career Playoffs: 16 GP | 6 G | 1 A | 7 A Cody Banks had a pretty straight forward career. He bounced around with some bad teams after a good start to life with Brett Slobodzian and co. He ended up playing 430 games over the course of his career scoring 118 goals, assisting on 173 goals for 291 points. Not to bad for a 2nd/3rd line winger. However, if I remember correctly that most of these points came in Season 1 riding shotgun with either Brett Slobodzian or Scott Boulet. 6th Round, 48th Overall: Center Reg Vaillancourt Career Reg.Season: 144 GP | 26 G | 85 A | 111 P Career Playoffs: 21 GP | 2 G | 10 A | 12 P Reg was a pretty good depth center for his two seasons he played in the VHL. He played 144 games scored only 26 games but assisted on 85 for 111 points. That is a pretty decent output and basically what you want in a center, someone to feed the pucks to the wingers. He also played in 21 playoff games scoring 2 goals and assisting on 10 goals for 12 points. Overall he was decent, too bad he decided to call it a career after just two seasons. 7th Round, 49th Overall: Defenseman Jeremy Lamborghini Career Reg.Season: 214 GP | 27 G | 102 A | 129 P Career Playoffs: 21 GP | 2 G | 6 A | 8 P Last in the 7th round is a man who has a pretty cool name in Jeremy Lamborghini. He played in 214 seasons, scoring 27 goals and assisting on 102 goals for 129 points. Pretty good value for a 7th round pick who was 7 picks away from being last pick overall. He never won a title in his 3 seasons but he provided solid depth as a 3/4 guy. Overall: You could make a pretty good argument that all of these picks were decent hits. However, I think I could count that Scott Boulet, Brad Janssen, Lucas Smith, Shawn Howard and Cody Banks as hits with Drew Barclay, Reg Vaillancourt and Jeremy Lamborghini just missing out. That is 5/8 hits here giving the Wranglers the lead at a 62.5% hit rate compared to the Tigers and their 37.5% hit rate. 1. Calgary Wranglers: 5/8 = 62.5% 2. Amstel Tigers: 3/8 = 37.5 Edited September 28, 2016 by TheLastOlympian07 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/34068-claimedthis-ms-kinda-pissed-me-off-this-week-reviewed/ Share on other sites
