We near the end of the Season 2 VHL Entry draft with this edition of the series. In the last one we covered the Toronto Legion because browser had saved all the career stats that I thought were lost so i decided just to fill in the blanks with the words. Now we go back to the now Stockholm Rams who changed their name from the Stockholm Thunder in the off-season.

Round 1, Pick 3: Right Wing Jon Clarke

Career Reg. Season: 288 GP | 122 G | 194 A | 316 P

Career Playoff Stats: 21 GP | 9 G | 14 A | 23 P

Jon Clarke was a top three pick and was supposed to be a franchise pillar for the newly rebranded Rams. He did very well in the 4 seasons he played scoring 122 goals and assisting on 194 goals for 316 points in 288 games. He played in 21 playoffs games scoring 9 goals and assisting on 14 for 23 points. He managed to win a Continental Cup in Season 1 with Vasteras. Halfway through his VHL career he decided it was time to live out his NHL dream when they came calling and he hung up his VHL skates and picked up NHL skates.

Round 2, Pick 10 (via Avangard, Through Hamilton): Defenseman Doug Schneider

Career Reg. Season: 538 GP | 118 G | 412 A | 530 P

Career Playoff Stats: 78 GP | 16 G | 68 A | 84 P

Doug Schneider was taken in the 2nd round, 10th overall with a pick acquired from Avangard through Hamilton. He played in 538 games scoring 118 goals while assisting on 412 for 530 points. He played in an astonishing 78 playoff games scoring 16 goals and assisting on 68 for 84 points. This was at a time when only 4 VHL teams made the playoffs too so this stat is even more amazing when you think about it. He is a 4 time Continental Cup Champion. He should be in the Hall of Fame but he isn't for whatever reason. I bet Avangard and Hamilton feel foolish for no keeping this pick.

Round 2, Pick 11: Defenseman Keyser Soze

Career Reg. Season: 290 GP | 57 G | 187 A | 244 P

Career Playoff Stats: 14 GP | 3 G | 6 A | 9 P

Keyser Soze was taken right after Schneider and he wasn't as great and Doug but he was still serviceable. He played in 290 games scoring 57 goals and assisting on 187 goals for 244 points. He also played in 2 playoff series scoring 3 goals and assisting on 6 goals for 9 points in 14 games. He was nothing more than a solid number 3 defenseman in his time in the VHL.

Round 3, Pick 19: Defenseman Soloman Brewer

Career Reg. Season: 214 GP | 54 G | 95 A | 149 P

Career Playoff Stats: N/A

Brewer was the third defender taken in a row for Stockholm. He played in 214 games scoring 54 goals and assisting on 95 goals for 149 points. He never managed to make it to the playoffs. He was an ok 3rd defenseman but a very good 4th defenseman. He was more suited to be played down the depth chart.

Round 3, Pick 21 (via Avangard): Center Robbie Zimmers @Rob e Z

Career Reg. Season: 562 GP | 216 G | 310 A | 526 P

Career Playoff Stats: 33 GP | 6 G | 17 A | 23 P

Here we have one of the best draft picks in the later rounds that the VHL has ever seen. Robbie Zimmers played in 562 games scoring 216 goals and assisting on 310 goals for 526 points. He almost out scores this whole draft class of the Stockholm Rams by himself. He played in 33 playoff games scoring 6 goals and assisting on 17 goals for 23 points. A little underwhelming for someone who produced like he did in the regular season. He did win a cup in Season 8 which was his last season I believe. He is one of the best picks ups in the 3rd round to this very day.

Round 4, Pick 27: Goaltender Jason Rendell

Career Reg. Season: 41 GP | 9 W | 9 L | 0 OTL | 0.888 SV% | 4.60 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A

Career Playoff Stats: 1 GP | 0 W | 0 L | 0 OTL | 0.840 SV% | 6.49 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A

Next up is career VHLM goalie Jason Rendell. He played in 41 games but has a record of 9-9-0 with a 0.888 save percentage and a 4.60 G.A.A with no shutouts. He played in 1 playoff game for mop up duty and has a record of 0-0-0 with a horrendous 0.840 save percentage and an atrocious 6.49 G.A.A with no shutouts obviously. What can you expect in the 4th round though?

Round 5, Pick 34 (via Hamilton): Right Wing Chris Maher

Career Reg. Season: 144 GP | 13 G | 38 A | 51 P

Career Playoff Stats: 9 GP | 0 G | 1 A | 1 P

Chris Maher gave the Rams two solid seasons as a depth player on the 3rd line. He played in 144 games scoring 13 goals and assisting on 38 goals for 51 points. Not much more you can really as for from a 3rd line guy who played probably 9-11 minutes a night. He also played in 9 playoff games assisting on 1 goal.

Round 5, Pick 35: Left Wing Craig Levver

Career Reg. Season: 118 GP | 20 G | 39 A | 59 P

Career Playoff Stats: N/A

Last and certainly least is Craig Levver who played in 118 games scoring 20 goals and assisting on 39 goals for 59 points. He never played beyond the regular season and was out of the league in 2 seasons.

Verdict

Jon Clarke was really great but you want more than 4 seasons out of a 3rd overall pick. Doug Schneider and Robbie Zimmers are the hits here while Clarke barely misses out and the rest didn't pan out.

Review:

Yeah, lots of Season 2 stuff as Frank said. :P

But, I don't mind, myself. I know basically nothing about S1-20 besides a few things here and there.

Good article.
