DollarAndADream 3,357
No Doubts The regular season of Season 54 has concluded, and very soon will be the dawn of the post-season. The teams to beat are clear as day, and favourites have been chosen. In the 1st Round, the Quebec City Meute and the Stockholm Vikings are getting the byes. (bys, buys?) There is one playoff series that everyone will be watching for sure, and that is the duel between the New York Americans and the Toronto Legion. With a record of 25-43-4 and 54 points, the Legion are without a doubt the favourites. People have been asking, "What are the Americans thinking, having any kind of confidence against a team like Toronto?". Those people have the correct mindset right now. The Americans have 109 points and a record of 54-17-1. Just who do they think they are? If there is anything to be positive about, it is that the Toronto Legion can score goals. They have 110 goals on the season, and a goal differential of -94. Every other team in the playoffs have at least 200 goals or more for the regular season, but with Toronto's 110, who cares about the other teams? -------------------------- -------------------------- On the back end, they have superstar defenseman Roman Sokolov on defense providing offense all over the ice, and he put up 22 goals and 64 points this season, including 228 hits and 181 shot blocks. Jean-Claude Girard had 27 points with 4 goals, which gives you hints that he could be unstoppable in the post-season. JC Girard also had 140 blocked shots. Not only that, but the drunk trailer park supervisor from Sunnyvale, Jim Lahey, is on the team as well. He decided to, for some reason, take up hockey at the age of 50+, and has had respectable numbers. His 15 goals and 45 points will go a long way. Also, who can forget TOR D4 and his clutch 3 goals? Up front, all-star Vincent Adultman has led the way with 24 goals and 32 assists, for 56 points on the season. To compliment him, the world's greatest spy, Sterling Archer laced up the skates and contributed 15 goals and 13 assists, for a whopping 28 points. They also have scary offensive threats in KYLO and Pavel Varushkin. One stat you should probably just ignore all together is the plus/minus column. I mean, all of these guys were high in the negatives for plus/minus, but it's totally not relevant. Although, JC Girard's league worst -58 is quite the milestone. Between the pipes, the Toronto Legion have all-star, superstar, probably already a Hall of Famer goaltender Torstein Ironside. With his 0.917 save percentage, and 2.65 goals against average (better than Markus King), he's been a true top talent. Also, his 7 shutouts are on par with the best in the league, at least if you take away 10 shutouts from everyone else. He has saved 89.7% of all his penalty shots, which is best in the VHL. At the end of the day, when you have that top percentage, do any of the other goalie stats even matter? Here's your answer: not really. When looking at it from all of these angles, you can see why the Legion will blow past the New York Americans, and ultimately raise the cup ahead of Quebec City or anyone from Europe.
