A storm was fast approaching, but that wasn't what I was worried about...

 

I do listen to the podcast! It's the first in a while. But with me back to listening to the podcasts, the league will surely run strong again. Happy America Day yesterday to you! You say we Canadians have it better, and yes that is true, but see the picture in the title? Yea, that is a giant fucking rubber duck. It cost us taxpayers $120,000 to bring it here to Toronto. So it's not all sunshine and daisies here. Assholes plus Russians equals Canadians moving up in the world haha. 

 

Dear God, is there really talk of a Civil War? I mean I get that Trump is a pile of shit, a racist bigot who is hell-bent on fucking up America, but Trump is hating his life right now, as you said it seems that he's got a degenerative brain disease, but that means that he is not long for this job, possibly this world. Impeachment would be nice but that's not going to happen for a while. More likely would be that he'll be assassinated. Anyway, I feel for you guys right now. I watch CNN almost every night, and I can only do it for 10 minutes or so. Jon Oliver's jokes about Trump are actually not funny anymore because of the severity of the situation. Anyway, I hope it doesn't come to a civil war, and I don't think it will, but hopefully by next July 4th, you guys will all be celebrating

 

Yea I've been MIA for a while for this league, but talking to those that remain, it sounds like everyone seems to think the same. I've said for a long time that we have an amazing core member base... but that's it. Once they start to dwindle... then we are in big big trouble. It seems that time has come. But let's see if it passes.. it may just be a heavy summer, as summer is always quieter, while people spend more time with their families, but who knows? I will try to make posts more often and start threads, but I barely have the motivation to post in the welfare section once a week. 

 

Phil Question 1:

I agree. Just dishing out TPE is a quick fix that doesn't actually fix anything. You're thinking along the right lines. Find a way to boost ACTIVITY. "Write a birthday limerick for 5 TPE", hahah that would be Der Hockey League, the DHL. You think it would be interesting to do an ALL-TIME draft tournament? That is very, very interesting, and after July 18h, I will tell you why! Wait, you've been up since 4am? That is nuts! Yea, and I think it's a rippling effect. You said that you're sitting in a car talking about a fake league that fewer and fewer people are caring about, and that in turn is having an effect on your motivation to contribute to the league. This is why I think recruitment is so important. You get fresh members in who are all gung-ho and excited to be here, it keeps everyone's interests up. 

 

Phil Question 2:

VHL is Pond hockey. I like that. It's true. As for your relegation idea; I love it. I've thought about it too! the relegated sides would generally be the younger teams anyway. I think it would also help teams avoid tanking. Also if we had a higher salary cap for the Top Tier, so it actually hurts to be relegated, it should keep everyone motivated to stay in the top league. Also, more total players and therefore more competitive anyway. Also, your Generational Player idea is very neat! I would like to see that. If we got a new member to win that lotto, that would be pretty spectacular. Hopefully we earn a life-time contributor from it. 

 

Phil Question 3

Ravenwing has been killing it! He seems to be a goal-machine this season, and Shankly is benefiting from it. I'm not sure why my hit total is so low this season and last season, but with my recent levels of activity, what else can I expect? I'll just ride the Raven and try to help him out as much as possible. Still, Shankly is hovering at around a point per game and is on track for well over 200 Hits, which isn't terrible. But with 75 points and 64% from the Face Off circle, Ravenwing is really showing to be one of our most valuable players. Which is well deserved. Also, already 10 game winning goals? Again? What a beast. 

 

Overall, this episode had pretty sad overtones, which kind of fits the state of the league. It was an easy listen and the time zipped by. You always have a way of making smooth transitions from one topic to the next and do a wonderful jobs of tying everything back together. I've missed these.

Nice review of a review. I too find it sad the state of the league in what should be the biggest season in VHL history because of our ten year anniversary. I hope it is just the summer taking its toll on people for not that much activity because to be honest it is taking its toll on me. I work 730 am to 6 pm Monday to Thursday with only 30 minute lunch break. plus soccer practice almost everyday. im beat plus soccer tournaments mostly every weekend. so yea. lots to do in the summer for me

It's definitely the summer for me. I've been less active, while still being active. I've almost not done PTs some weeks....which for me is a lot I guess. Just been really busy and when you're in the sun all day when you're not at work, it's draining.
