HellBillyXIII 61
With the VHLM season winding down players are beginning to look forward to the upcoming season. The draft chatter around the league is beginning and many eyes are focused on the top VHLM prospects. Over the next couple weeks decisions will be made as to what these propspects intend to do next year, but there is no need to wonder about defensive prodigy Billy Pilgrims plans. Pilgrim has committed to remaining in the VHLM for a 2nd season. Pilgrim is having an other-wordly breakout rookie season thus far. He is among tops in the league in hits, +/-, and is climbing the boards in shots blocked. He has suprised everyone, himself included, with his offensive prowess. He is among the league leaders in assists and overall points. His domination has not gone unnoticed and teams with high picks are surely going to be crushed by this news. Players who are comitted to defense as opposed to the glory positions are rare. Defenseman who live and breath to shut the other teams offense down while not worrying about personal statistics are even rarer. Pilgrim is in an odd position however. His team, The Yukon Rush, are heavily favored to win the championship this season, but their success came at a great cost. The Rush leveraged their entire future in going for the championship this season. The have traded all their picks away for players to bolster their line up. While this tactic has proven well done so far this season things look bleak for the Rush heading into next season. The core of The Rush will be moving on the the VHL at seasons end and there is some speculation that Pilgrims camp may request a trade this off season. Expected to leave are D - Lespineau-Lebrunette, D - Roux , and F - Dragomir. This mass exodus of talent (a crop that includes more than 1 likely top 5 pick) not only leaves gaping holes all over the Rush roster, but they have no means to restock. However Pilgrim persists. “I am committed to the Rush. I love it hear and will be dissapointed to leave, whenever that may be.” Pilgrim is currently focusing all his efforts towards winning the championship this season but, as it is with all VHLM’ers, he is also concerned about the future. More specifically, making it to the big league. He has been working feverishly on his defensive play and checking over the last few weeks. His checking has improved markedly, and he has climbed from being in the middle of the pack to among the league leaders in hits in just a few short weeks. While his defensive prowess is hard to quantify with statistics he regularly shuts his opponents down and is one of the best penalty killers in the league. Going forward Pilgrim said he will be working in his puck skills. “I need to get better at blocking shots and I need to be able to move the puck out of our zone better.” He stated. While what uniform he will have on next year or the year after that may be in question, his work ethic and desire to be the best are not. DollarAndADream 3,357
Review: Pilgrim was a such a good early prospect. If you come back, you could still make a star! Never a bad thing to stay down in the VHLM. Stat padding!
