There were dramatic scenes in Toronto this past weekend, as the Davos Dynamo overcame the Toronto Legion to claim the Season 38 Continental Cup. In game 6 of the series, the Dynamo battled to a 1-0 overtime victory thanks to the unlikely source of retiring second line defenseman, Shane Baker who scored a Power Play goal, assisted by the very attractive Naomi Young and the slightly less appealing Jarkko Olsen. Even the outstanding efforts of Remy "LeGod" Lebeau(45 saves from 46 shots, .978 save %) could deny the Dynamo from claiming their second championship in three seasons and sending the fans of the Swiss club into wild celebrations. The Dynamo got key contributions from several players during the playoffs including Matt Bentley(14 Pts, 38 SB, 48 Hits) and Jarkko Olsen(18 Pts, 5 PP Goals) to name just two of the stars who helped the team bring the Continental Cup back to Europe.

Speculation is mounting that the VHL's 39th season may indeed be Odin Tordahl's last. The New York Americans forward and reigning Szatkowsk(Points), Brooks(Goals) and Beketov(Assists) trophy holder is seemingly jaded after failing to lead the Americans to the Continental Cup final and losing out for the second season in a row to Tuomas Tukio for the Brett Slobodzian Trophy. It is doubtful that he was even in contention for either season, but with little chance of repeating last season's success, it is thought he has given up all hope of winning the only award he has coveted since entering the league in season 33. If it is indeed his final season of hockey, he has teammate and perennial Labatte Trophy candidate Conner Low to thank for his role as Captain. Low shockingly stepped aside and notified GM Christopher Miller of his desire for Tordahl to lead the team this season, and while both excited and humbled by the classy move from Low, Tordahl will be hoping he can handle the pressure and help bring the Continental Cup back to New York. It would be a parting gift that the Norwegian veteran could only dream of.

Seattle's Karsten Olsen has started season 39 on fire, amassing 22 points through 11 games. While not nominated by many VHL observers as a Szatkowski Trophy candidate, Olsen could possibly surprise many this season with his offensive capabilities. The Bears are in a transition period and the winger, along with Center Damon Tyrael and Bruno Wolf, form the Seattle first line which has obviously been clicking so far this season. Olsen has hinted that there is only one season left in him and if true, the Bears will be losing a key offensive talent.

Rookie defenseman Dimothenis Vlasis(center), celebrates a goal with Logan Laich and David Collier. After an exceptional Season 38 showing for the Turku Outlaws, where he scored 173 points, Vlasis has continued his rise, this time with the Cologne Express. Scoring at a point per game pace, Vlasis leads more fancied rookies Jackson Miller and Don Draper in the race for the Stolzschweiger Trophy in Season 39.

Former Cologne hard man and sometime defenseman, Edwin Encarnacion, was recently traded to the Calgary Wranglers. The deal which surprised many sees the Penalty Minute specialist added to a developing Wranglers roster that looks to try and sneak into a playoff spot this season. Encarnacion currently leads the league in PIM with 124 and shows no sign of slowing down with his new team. It's unsure whether or not he has taken a mentorship role with the Wranglers, but GM Jason Glasser must be hoping that players such as Koji Yamazaki and Travis Boychuk can spend more time on the ice and a little less in the penalty box then Encarnacion has throughout his career.
