With less then 15 games to go until the end of the regular season, those teams not participating in the playoffs will be concentrating on draft strategy for the season 45 VHL Entry Draft. Of course with Helsinki holding 4 first round picks, some have to worry less about strategy than others. One name sure to be in the mix for 1st overall selection is Greg Clegane, who along with his slightly uglier brother Sandro, form the physically imposing goaltending duo known as the Mountain and the Hound. Greg who incredibly stands at 6'8" is a monster and has 48 wins from 61 starts this season, to go along with 15 shutouts for the Yukon Rush. Many predict that the Titans select Greg at #1 to set themselves up with a franchise goaltender, the likes of which they haven't seen since HOF player, Tuomas Tukio. Whatever happens, both Helsinki and Clegane look set for very bright futures here in the VHL.

Edwin_Encarnacion.png

A late season surge from pre-season ROTY favorite Edwin Reencarnacion has seen the young left winger finally assume the number one spot in the rankings after 72 games. All season Reencarnacion was behind Helsinki young gun Souryuu Kaminogi, but rallied down the stretch to finish the regular season with 79 points(39 G 40 A), an 8 point margin over the Titans winger and 105 PIM, a stat that the Encarnacion family prides itself on. Many VHL experts will be breathing a sigh of relief after boldly predicting(and gambling) that Edwin would run away with the Christian Stolzschweiger trophy in S44.

With the Calgary Wranglers holding a 3-1 lead in the North American Conference Finals, one of the key contributors to Calgary's success so far has been Center, Tyler Cote. The Assistant Captain has been leading from the front and so far has accumulated 16 points(4G 12A) and leads all playoff scoring. He may have benefited from playing against the Americans in Round 1, but no one can criticize him from doing his job for the Wranglers....a job he is performing quite well it seems.

After bravely defeating the Stockholm Vikings in the European Conference finals, the Cologne Express find themselves locked in a 2-2 battle with the Calgary Wranglers in the race for the S44 Continental Cup. The Express have a secret weapon in General Manager Ryan Power, whose 3 paragraph motivational speeches have inspired the team to comebacks on multiple occasions during his tenure. Power has seen his team reach three straight Cup playoffs but has only tasted success once so far in S42 against Quebec, and will no doubt be hoping that his players can win two of the next three games to bring the Cup back to German soil.

With the S44 Super Cup now underway, VHL GM's have now turned their attention to the S45 Entry draft, and the multitude of talent available for selection. With elite talent's such as the Clegane brothers, Phil Hamilton, Ariel Weinstein, Biggu Kyanon and Evgeny Nezhmetdinov all hoping to hear their names called early, GM's will be looking to add to their rosters in the hope that when ready, these players will be ready to assume key roles for their respective teams. It's a particularly strong draft for Goaltenders, with Greg Clegane the standout and with the Titans expected to call his name, they may have very well found Tuomas Tukio 2.0.

The Future's so bright.....

With a ton of talent to choose from in the recently held S45 VHL Entry Draft, the Helsinki Titans who held both 1st and 2nd overall simply couldn't lose. In the battle for bragging rights, defenseman Phil Hamilton edged out the talented goalie Greg Clegane although it's more a case of 1A and 1B rather than any significant difference in talent. Hamilton has already been identified by many VHL experts as both a candidate for Rookie of the Year and Top Leader so S45 may indeed prove to be a massive year for the young Englishman, and the Titans will no doubt be celebrating the level of talent they added via this seasons draft.

The Calgary Wranglers signaled their intent this week with the acquisition of defenseman Jake Wylde from the Quebec City Meute. It appears that the trade was discussed prior to the start of S45 but was delayed to salary conditions which allow the Wranglers to fit the talented Wylde under the salary cap for the remainder of the season. The move shows how seriously the front office is taking this run at back to back Continental Cups, and strengthening the blue line should see goalie Hans Wingate become even more of an obstacle for opposition forwards. Known for his tremendous work ethic, strategic knowledge and locker room presence, Wylde is a welcome addition to the S44 championship winning squad and will add even more leadership to an already highly motivated Wranglers roster.

After helping the Calgary Wranglers to win the season 44 Continental Cup, winger Jackson Miller found himself sacrificed to make way for the acquisition of Bismarck Köenig. Luckily Cologne came to the rescue and Miller now finds himself a key part of the Express squad and once again looks to be an integral part of a competitive squad in contention for playoff participation. Miller's 38 points through 23 games see;s him 4th on the scoring list, and his 1st in Hat Tricks(2) and 1st in GTG(5) further demonstrate his offensive abilities. Often underrated but a consistent performer, Miller should really be given more respect, especially if the Express find themselves going deep into the playoffs this season.

After dominating Season 44, Wranglers goalie Hans Wingate was expected to back up his stellar season with a repeat performance in the tilt at back to back Continental Cups. At the midway point of the season however, Wingate hasn't quite lived up to the expectations placed upon him and finds himself below the likes of Mikaelson, Waldron and Clegane in the rankings. His 21 wins see him 3rd in that category, but his .912 save % is below what he will feel he needs in order to be the key to the Wranglers title defense. There is still time to turn it around and if anyone can do it, "Wingod" is the man.

Arguably the biggest of the recent VHL deadline deals so far, has been future Hall of Famer Bruno Wolf, headed to New York(along with Tyson Stokes) for a S47 1st and 2nd. Wolf will add both a veteran presence and forward power to the Americans in their quest for S45 Playoff success. New York has clinched a playoff berth already in the weak North American conference and are well placed to threaten the more favored teams when the playoffs begin. Wolf currently sits 3rd on the scoring table with 78 points through 50 games(40 G 38 A) and is once again on track for yet another 100 point season and a chance at playoff glory.

With only 10 games remaining in the Season 45 regular season, it seems only a surge from Helsinki's Aleksi Koponen, can prevent Toronto's Max Molholt from taking home the Stolzschweiger trophy for the VHL's top rookie. The young winger has 85 points(42G 43A), 3 Hat-tricks, leads the shots blocked category with 165 and has proven to be a force on the rebuilding Legion roster. His rival for the award, Koponen, was the pre-season favorite however Molholt's outstanding season has him in the box seat for the prestigious honor. It would be well deserved and a fantastic start to what seems a very bright career for both himself and the Toronto franchise.

With playoff teams finalized and players preparing for their shot at VHL glory, a surprising performance from former Meute goaltender Niklaus Mikaelson saw New York beat out the Calgary Wranglers for the North American Conference title. The often misunderstood Mikaelson proved to be an excellent addition to the Americans roster, and was a significant factor in the teams success this season. He was 1st in save percentage(.922) and GAA(2.17), 3rd in shutouts(7) and second only to rookie sensation Greg Clegane in wins, with 43. He will definitely be the favorite for the Shaw trophy and if New York continues it's incredible run, the Kanou trophy will also be a possibility as the playoff MVP. Whatever happens, it's been a great season for Mikaelson and a fitting way to end his career here in the Victory Hockey League.

You're more than welcome to, although I really wouldn't know when/where I'd need them. Maybe full page and half page would be fine? Although I definitely don't need them immediately, or even soon-ish, we've got a ton of content the last two weeks.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but whatever size Solas does the covers at and half the height of that also. If you're just looking for something to do lol.

With game one of the VHL finals played, the Helsinki Titans find themselves a game behind after a narrow 4-3 loss to the Wranglers. Titans fans do not seem concerned however, as goaltender Greg Clegane who has been a sensation in his rookie season, will undoubtedly come back stronger in the remaining games and repel the Wranglers in their quest for back to back championships. After leading the league with 44 wins and 8 shutouts in the regular season, Clegane obviously has the skill set and talent to assist the Titans in their quest for their first Continental Cup since season 34.

Congratulations to the Helsinki Titans on their comprehensive defeat of the over-hyped Calgary Wranglers in game seven of the Continental Cup playoffs. After surrendering a 3-1 series lead to the Wranglers, Helsinki stormed back into contention via strong performances from the majority of their young but talented roster. Whether this performance paves the way for a Finnish dynasty remains to be seen, but after claiming their first title since S34, the Titans are in a strong position to themselves challenge for back to back Cups, just as the Wranglers themselves were chasing this season.

With the Season 47 VHL Entry Draft looking weaker than expected so far, even greater emphasis should be placed on the strong draft from this season that saw both the Toronto Legion and the Seattle Bears load up on talent with 8 of the first 10 selections. The Legion were fortunate to pick Left Winger Zach Parechkin at #1 overall and he will provide both leadership and offensive firepower for Toronto for many seasons to come. The Burnaby native whose 163 points(78G 85A) for Bern last season led the VHLM, will link up with 101 point rookie sensation Max Molholt, to form a deadly combination on the Legions top line and Power Play unit.

Much was expected of the Davos Dynamo in season 46, however with a 13-6 record only good enough for 3rd place on the European Conference, they have not lived up to that pre-season hype. One player who cannot be blamed however, is Callum Sinclair, the Dynamo's long serving goalie from the Season 42 Entry Draft. Leading the league in three categories, Save Percentage(.930), GAA(1.68), Penalty Shot's(1.000) and Shutouts(4), Sinclair is doing whatever he can to ensure the Dynamo sneak into a playoff spot where almost anything can happen. His teammates though, need to lift and give the Burlington VT native the support he deserves and to ensure the legacy of the Davos Dynamo lives on for another season.

Continuing on from his excellent rookie season, Toronto's Max Molholt has established himself as a dominant offensive force here in the VHL. With a league leading 58 points(33G 25A) after 30 games, he along with Legion center Joseph Roy III has formed a terrific 1-2 punch for his team. Unfortunately the Legion has been disappointing in other areas of the game, but with a young and very talented group of prospects ready to break out in season 47, Toronto will definitely be a team on the rise and one of the dominant players in the North American Conference for several seasons to come.

wingate.png

With the recent announcement of the Season 46 Trade Deadline, teams have started to make moves and the biggest so far has been the trade of Calgary's long time star Hans Wingate to the Riga Reign. Wingate, or "Wingod" as he is sometimes called by his legion of fans, was sent to the Reign in exchange for Bernie Gow, Griffin Simons and a S48 1st Rd pick. The deal surprised some VHL media commentators but seems a balanced trade that see's the Reign add the leagues highest rated goalie in their push for the European title, and the Wranglers add another pick, a depth center and a good replacement goalie to extend their run of American Conference success. Let's hope it's not the final deal of the season and some other GM's look to shake up their rosters in order to consolidate their rosters.
