Hockey History

 

Ismond Kingfisher is a highly touted prospect for the upcoming VHL draft.  He began his career playing high school hockey in Norther NJ, but was quickly discovered by OHL scout and soon joined the ranks of the London Knights in the OHL.  Ismond's style of play is unique, in that while his fundamentals are there, he relies heavily upon his reactions and quick hands to make save that leave the jaw on the floor.  The "ball hockey" goaltending style popularized by NHL greats Dominik Hasek, and more recently Tim Thomas are still alive and well thanks to Ismond.  His diving antics, and lightning fast glove bring the crowd to their feet at least once a game, and should translate not only to wins, but tickets sold in the VHL.  While some may say the "Stand up" style is archaic, and made inconsequential by the modern day "butterfly" style, Ismond Kingfisher has utilized the style to propel himself into what looks to be a promising professional hockey career.

 

Pros:

 

Reaction time - Ismond sites the fact that he did not start his career as a goalie as to why he can read the ice so well.  He reacts to the play, even before it happens, reading passes and knowing where everyone is on the ice at all times.  His awareness allows him to end plays before they've even began.  Even if he's out of position, Ismond Kingfisher has a chance at every shot put toward his net.

 

Hand Speed - Blocker side and glove side are equally as dangerous for Kingfisher.  He snaps pucks out of the air like his surname, and leaves shooters frustrated taking away net that was wide open seconds ago.  Not only are these skills great for his team, but they are crowd pleasers as well.

 

Rebound Control - Kingfisher rarely plays a rebound right out into the slot.  He has a knack for making pucks find the corner and even on occasion even uses his rebounds to create a break out the other way for his team.  While some goalies prefer to let the puck come to them, Kingfisher is notorious for attacking the puck and sending it where he wants it to go.

 

Cons:

 

Size - Though large in stature, Kingfisher some times has trouble LOOKING big in net, and can leave gaps in his coverage more fundamental based goalies would not.  His stand up style also allows for the occasional five hole goal that he would rather have back.

 

Skating - While strong on his skate, speed has never been Kingfishers god given ability.  But ask yourself truthfully.  Have any of us ever known a goalie who was truly an exceptional skater?

 

Puck Handling - Though he hails from the great state of New Jersey and admits to growing up watching Marty Brodeur, Kingfisher brings very little to the table when it comes to playing the puck.  I would not expect many assist or empty net goals from this goaltender.

Nice that you've included a pic along with your profile.

Good separation of topics and your sentence structure is decent. Although I find a few areas of phrasing in your first paragraph structured as if a caveman were talking. Very minor and nothing to worry about.

Like that you've used bold underlined headings for each section as it adds to the professionalism.

 

Just a note: I was confused on your comparison of KF to Hasek's " butterfly flop" style which I don't consider "stand up", as Brodeur would be. So your saying KF is a blend of stand up and hybrid butterfly style like Hasek?
