Ottawa Lynx 12-7-1

The VHLM season is just roaring by and the Ottawa Lynx seem to finally be rounding into the form that GM Diamond_Ace had hoped for. After a shaky 4-3-0 start to the year, the Lynx rolled through the second week with an impressive 8-4-1 stretch. The only major blemishes have been their struggles with the league leading Halifax 21st. A 2-5-0 record against Halifax has kept the Lynx securely in 3rd place, still 3 points back of the Las Vegas Aces.

The club went through some major lineup shuffling, hoping to find some lasting chemistry between all 4 forward lines. The blending seems to have worked to an extent recently, with some key contributors waking up from the dead, although a few players who had hot starts cooled right off. Roctrion King now leads the team in goals (12) and points (25). Chance Matthews leads the way with 17 helpers. Ottawa seems to have figured out how to start scoring enough, but there have been too many jekyll and hyde performances on offence to really say the team has hit its stride.

Team discipline has still been a major issue, and although the penalties have been down as of late, the penalty killing has continued to be abysmal and continues to cost the club in several games and in the standings. Kallis Kriketers has been under siege when a man short this year and has only been able to do so much. Kriketers has rebounded from a rocky start to being a steady force in the crease, while the Lynx try to find their way.

The upcoming schedule doesn't get any easier, with multiple games against Halifax and Las Vegas. The Lynx need to stay close to the lead pack in order to maintain a shot at first and home ice advantage through out the post season. Diamond_Ace seems committed to icing a championship squad, and the Founders Cup is still the end goal. He has been very active working the phones to find help for the club. The team seems open to anything to make the team better, and an open door policy has made it easy to read the room and figure out what is best for the team going forward. Trades in season are difficult, but with some separation starting to happen between the top and bottom teams, distinct sellers are starting to emerge as they begin to look towards the draft and positioning for next season.

The Lynx will continue to be an interesting club to watch, especially with the heavy expectations that were put on the team in the off season. Ownership has given a mandate that they wont commit to a new arena unless the wins start to roll in a little more often. A disappointing regular season and early exit in the playoffs could spell wholesale changes from top to bottom. While management doesn't seem worried, they must be starting to feel the noose starting to tighten a little as the season goes on. A big run could turn the fortunes around, and the Lynx have the firepower to do it. Well watch with interest
