oilmandan 688
If you attended the season opener for the New York last night, hopefully you got yourself a program. Otherwise most of the faces in New York uniforms would've looked awful unfamiliar. After a season that saw the Americans finish 26 points outside of the playoffs, management cleaned house. Wanting a new presence in the dressing room, not much was safe. Even the walls got a fresh coat of paint. The makeover started with a 3.6 billion dollar remodel of the home teams dressing room. To help incorporate the change, a few walls were knocked out to add a whopping 8000 square feet of space for new lockers and 3 new massage rooms. Where did all this new space come from you ask? Well that's simple. The away teams dressing room was cut in half. Now only consisting of 20 lockers and a 2x2 hole for a bathroom in the centre of the room. Toilet paper and towels will have to be provided by the away teams. The Americans hope the inconvenience that the cramped quarters will cause, will give a much needed home ice advantage. On the ice, the team looks quite different as well. Only 2 holdovers from remain from season 62. Star netminder Ismond Kingfisher and defender Mathieu Bourdon represent the old Americans, and will be counted on to show the rookies how to play American hockey. Kingfisher is expected to a workhorse and a very busy man, trying to backstop a very young group, thatll be learning on the fly. In terms of the new charges, 2nd overall draft choice Joseph McWolf will be the new face of the franchise as well as the teams captain. He brings a hard working, stay at home style, that helped anchor the Ottawa Lynx defense in their Founders Cup Championship. The two alternate captains are also former Lynx members from this past season. Roctrion King who will play right wing, was a season 62 draft pick of the Quebec City Meute, acquired by New York in a trade the previous year. He will be counted on continuing his goal scoring ways to help pace the offense. Dan Wilinsky will play the opposite wing. He was chosen 7th overall by the Americans after spending the S62 season moving all around the Lynx lineup like a jack of all trades. The Americans hope that the trio of Founders Cup winners will bring that winning attitude to the locker room and that it will translate onto the ice. The other new player is centre Scott Shawinganen. He was picked one spot ahead of Wilinsky and will be counted on to be the centre of the future. While expectations are not overly high this season, that doesn't mean any of these players will have a free pass. They will be held accountable in every way and will be pushed hard to exceed what the pundits have predicted for them. On another note the Seattle Bears poured it on in the first game, winning 7-0. A rude welcome to the VHL for the quartet of rookies. 516 words McWolf, Spade18 and BladeMaiden 3 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/54450-youth-will-be-served-with-young-americans/ Share on other sites
