Career

Emil Passerelli began playing hockey at a very young age. From the moment he could walk, he could skate. For the vast majority of his hockey-playing life, he has been a right winger. Until beginning high school, however, Passerelli played solely in recreational youth leagues. After joining his high school’s ice hockey team, he began to take the sport much more seriously. In his four years at Mohawk Valley, Passerelli put up 30 goals and 135 assists from 88 appearances, also winning one New York State Championship. Following graduation, Passerelli accepted a scholarship to Boston College to play hockey. In the two years he spent there, he scored 32 goals and 146 assists from 83 appearances, winning back-to-back Hockey East Championships, making it to the Frozen Four twice, and reaching the National Championship once.

Strengths

Speed - Emil has always been rapid on the ice, racing between thirds with powerful legs and a lower center-of-gravity. Superb balance does well to keep him on his skates, and his agility means he is not purely a north/south speedster.

Passing - From the moment he entered high school, Emil’s coaches have borne witness to the Italian-American’s exceptional vision and ability to slot passes home from the tightest of angles. He has always had a pass-first mentality, spending very little time looking for a shot and instead finding teammates in better positions. This pure playmaking style means that some defenders are caught off-guard when Passerelli does wind up shooting the puck, but this doesn’t happen often.

Puck Handling - As with many players at this level, Emil’s stick is an extension of himself, and this makes itself known with the way that the New York native retains control of the puck. More often than not, the only way you’re getting Emil off of the puck is by checking him.

Weaknesses
Strength - Emil’s greatest weakness is his physical strength, or lack thereof. The young man can’t take hits well at all, and the most prevalent cause of him losing possession is that he is jockeyed off of the puck by a bigger, stronger opponent. Due to this, don’t expect him to be getting into nor winning any fights anytime soon.

Defense - As fast as Emil can make his way up and down the ice, he is rather lost defensively. He’s never been great at checking and forcing opponents off of the puck, and more often than not relies on his d-men to start the break. You’re better off keeping him out of your own third, at least until he works on his defensive skills.

Shooting - Because Emil is almost exclusively an assist-machine, he doesn’t practice his shooting nearly enough. The result of this is many laughable attempts on goal, be it penalty shots or in regulation. Emil is best off giving the puck to someone who can better get it past the goaltender, at least until he trains more. On occasion, he does put the puck in the back of the net; even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Review: I enjoyed seeing stats in his intro to see what kind of player he is with just numbers, and when I kept on reading I enjoyed how everything was consistent with his stats and abilities. Enjoyed the use of the picture to set the mood and correlate with his college playing day.
