Name: Shawnomir Jagr

Height: 6'3

Weight: 230 LBS

Born: February 15th, 2001

Hometown: Kladno, Czech Republic

Shawnomir Jagr was born in Kladno, Czech Republic on February 15th, 2001. Yes this is the same birthdate as his dad Jaromir Jagr. Shawnomir was never claimed by Jaromir but the resemblance in uncanny. As a young child, Shawnomir decided he wanted to play hockey which shocked his mother as she never told him that his dad was a professional hockey player. At age 13, Shawnomir started playing for the Poldi SONP Kladno club that housed his famous father. His age 13 season had Jagr score 24 goals and assist on 17 goals for 41 points in just 34 games. The next two seasons saw him shine with 70 points in back to back seasons. In his age 16 season, Jagr shined with 57 goals and 27 assists for 84 points in just 35 games. It was certain he would be spending his age 17 season away from this club and playing for Czech Extraliga instead of the junior circuit. It was indeed the case but in 29 games, Jagr scored only 3 goals and assisted on 3 goals for 6 points. In his age 18 season, Jagr exploded for 22 goals and 28 assists for 50 points in 42 games. Jagr bypassed the NHL Draft for the VHLM deciding that he doesn't want to keep following his father footsteps to  the NHL but rather make a name for himself in the VHL. In the VHLM last season while still 18, Jagr signed with the Las Vegas Aces. Jagr scored just 1 goal in 22 games while averaging only 7 minutes per game. In the playoffs, it was more of the same as in 10 games, Jagr had 0 points with just 5 minutes per game but the Aces won the VHLM Championship. In the summer, Jagr was drafted by the Saskatoon Wild in the VHLM Entry Draft. This season, Jagr is showing everyone that with more icetime, that he can be a force as he has 22 points in 11 games so far.

Pros

Scoring - Shawnomir Jagr has shown that he can score with the best of VHLM with 14 goals in 11 games including a 5 goal outburst recently. Jagr's main focus is sniping the puck into the net and he reminds some of Patrik Laine of the Jets because he is so big and can shoot with the best of them. Look for Jagr to continue to work on his scoring abilites as this season goes on and look for him at the top of the goal scoring leaderboards.

Skating - You can't be a good hockey player these days if you can't skate it seems as the game is not all about speed speed and more speed. Jagr has some smooth skating strides so far and will continue to work on skating throughout his career as he is one of the best skaters on the Saskatoon Wild.

Defense - Jagr is exceptionally well on defense so far in his rookie season with 21 hits and 4 shots blocked with a +1 rating. Jagr never gives up on any puck and you can expect him to battle for everything in those corners and it works well with his big body out there because he can just muscle his way onto the puck then you can't get him off it.

Cons

Passing - Jagr has never been known as a passer because he is a shoot first person. However, with 8 assists this season he is adept at passing but he will never be mistaken for an elite passer.

Shot Selection - Jagr is shooting the puck at a rate of 7.5 shots per game but not all of those are high percentage shots as he will just rip it on net as soon as he gets it. Not to mention those shots that do not hit the net. Jagr needs to work on his shot selection more and that would make him a far more deadly shooter.

Leadership - Jagr is not that much of a leader right now because he is so young and he wasn't given that much of a chance to lead in LV. However, he is leading by example so far in Saskatoon but he currently working on stepping out of his comfort zone and talking more in the LR and being more active in general outside in the VHL world.

Overall, Shawnomir Jagr looks to be one of the top prospects heading into the upcoming VHL Entry Draft that looks really deep in general. I would expect Jagr to be a 1st round draft pick by seasons end as he works his way up many VHL GM draft boards. Jagr is currently ranked 12th in TPE but I would expect him to be a lot better by seasons end. As we all know too, TPE isn't everything as a solid build will always be better than the TPE number. Right now Jagr is looking like he would be one of the best of both worlds.

Love the story of being Jagr's illegitimate child. I think you may have undersold how big of a plus his scoring is, that could probably take up all three pros. Overall a solid rookie profile that fairly honestly rates Shawnomir's skills. Shawnomir has some stiff competition, but should definitely be a 1st round pick.
