sterling 1,997
Having just made a Devise post in the recruitment crew forum, I want to use this to gain a free point. In essence, we're discussing reviving this thing. Here's my thoughts: Welp, I think we need to have a lot more structure to this, like you mention. Recruitment team does x drive at x point of season. x week is used for this. x member of crew does x job. I for one think the mentor idea is good, it isn't for the entirety of their VHLM career. I'm talking first 72 hours, getting the new member up to snuff, answering any question they have, giving them realtime answers to questions while we have them because imo the first 72 hours are the make or break for new members without a clue how this place works. Realistically we would have a team of: 1) Leader - Sets the structure of the team and awards TPE for tasks done. 2) Graphic/Video design artist - makes ads as required for different sites. 3) 1 or 2 post whores who explore other forums and use VHL recruitment sigs on those forums 4) Facebook and or Twitter user 5) Explorer - the person who finds new sources of advertising, new affiliates, new recruitment forums, etc. 6) Boom - welcomer 7)Loudmouth idiot, see 1) That's my vision. Ideally, you'd have a set strategy for the season. So if we select trade deadline as the recruitment rush time that is when everyone would focus on Reddit and post whoring other sites. I think you are correct with this assessment of the best time to recruit. The off-season and playoffs are a dreadful time, most of the recruiting should be focused on during the season. Mike 708
With Kendrick stepping down from GMing I'm not sure what his intentions were after Taylor but hes been basically taking over recruiting for the last 2 seasons. If he is staying around it would be great for him to officially take a role like that and have a few people under him (in addition to Devise/Boom who already have a role) to give it more structure and reliability. diamond_ace 3,112
If you need someone to write official posts regarding things that we could then post on sites, I'd be interested in doing that, just tell me what you want included in the posts, where the post is to go (or I can send it to you if I don't have an account on said site) and when you need it done by. Guest
I'm going to be honest Mike, as much as I do some of the recruiting it has got to be a bit of a pain. I even had a GM come to me wondering if I was going to do a Reddit thing this year in order for his team to gain. I won't name names but to me that's some what of an insult on the fact I'm being used to do homework and outreach for someone else. I do some of the recruitment for the betterment of this league and to put in to perspective about 50% of the new players come from a post I have posted in some other forum. When I get to the stage I feel like I'm doing someone else's dirty work, I stop. I'm not going to be around here for ever, it's no secret and the reason I've brought this up in the Recruitment Crew is because when I leave, how is the influx of new members going to come in? To be fair, that GM has also done some recruiting things as well. Even before messaging you, I had a VHL ad in my sig on Breakaway Forums leagues for several seasons (it's a 5th anniversary one, so it's been there for a while). Most of the guys from there died off over here (Ignacio Marino, as well as the guy who is Kyle Peters over there but I forget what name he made over here, either way both are long since inactive). There's one though, Aelred Leskowski (who has the same name, except Leskowsky instead of Leskowski over there - now that I think about it, I think he used the y in his player creation and Jardy just put it in wrong and it stuck) who's still mildly active here. Granted, Meg made the sig and gave it the link to here, but nonetheless I was the one wearing it and being active over there, trying to get people to come here. I'm still active over there, for that matter, and still have the ad in my sig, just hasn't been particularly useful. The only other people from here who are active over there are Bora and IR. Corco tried it out for a bit, so did Meg, neither stuck. Yet I'm the one with the ad in my sig. I also tried putting up another thread on Cyberpuck, since the one linked in the Recruiting thread seems to have gone missing. Mine seems to have gone missing as well, so maybe they just don't take well to it. So don't even try to tell me "that GM" hasn't done anything other than bug you about reddit. (Assuming you were talking about me, as I know we discussed this with regards to whether the S38 TOR 2nd would be valuable. If you were talking about someone else, then this is merely useful information for you to have and doesn't need to be used to prove anything with regards to the case.) Wasn't a shot at you, but when you approached me it came across as doing your dirty work. I'll be totally honest you're not the most active GM during the season and Devise somewhat exposed that. So when you came to me about Reddit I was sort of pissed off. Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/5984-recruitment-crew/#findComment-52377 Share on other sites

If that's how you interpreted it, that's on you. I was just trying to gauge the strength of the draft, and without getting at least a vague idea of how recruiting is going, there's no way to know that. As you're the one that's doing the biggest part, it's only logical to go to you to see how you project it. So again, don't assume things. I don't talk to you though so to come to me seeing if I was going to do a recruiting thing and wanted a yes or no did seem somewhat like reaching to me for your own success. I won't assume things, if you don't come to me looking for gain haha Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/5984-recruitment-crew/#findComment-52393 Share on other sites

I apparently phrased it in such a way that made it easy to misinterpret. Blame is on both of us somewhat. Not that blame does any good, since this has all already happened and has no impact on going forward. Let's just go forward then. Don't tell me I'm insulting you when I'm not, don't assume I'm not trying to recruit when I am, and I won't assume I'm able to ask you a series of questions about how your recruiting endeavors are going. Personally, if you're finding success, I'd think you would want people to know that, since it gives a better idea as to how best to do it going forward, but if you don't want to share your information, that's fine. I don't get paid for recruitment, so it's easy for me to simply think it's being used. I won't assume in this case of course, but like you said it was worded the way it could easily be interpreted that you wanted something. I will refrain from recruiting now and let the crew do it anyways, to not cross boundaries there. If you're doing well, the crew might benefit from trying to bring you on board, but if you feel that you no longer want to partake, that is of course something you can choose to do. STZ 5,359
Don't you get paid if they hit a certain amount of TPE? If not, you should.. Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/5984-recruitment-crew/#findComment-52427 Share on other sites

However for the others that come here there's no payment. I'm not looking for one either, just pointing out that I'm not on a crew or anyways and up until this point theres only been about 5 guys actively recruiting each week. Megster 63
It's a really a shame Kendrick feels like he is being used and doesn't wan't to recruit anymore because honestly as much as I disagree with him he is by far the best recruiter we have. Besides the new people he brings in I know he gets old people to come back that he gets no credit for. When I was gone, he contacted me at least twice about coming back and even though that's not the reason I came back (I already had intentions of coming back and was working to get to a healthier place) I know that he has probably gotten some others to come back. Anyways I can do the Facebook/Twitter stuff again if there are no other takers, if there are then forget me because sometimes I go missing unexpectedly.
