Being drafted to a new team is two things: scary, and exciting. Rhys Chism joined the Houston Bulls last season after entering the league too late to be drafted, and while he got off to a slow start he really started to bloom late in the season, finishing with 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points in 72 games played for the surprisingly good Houston Bulls in their first ever season of existence.

Enter the Philadelphia Reapers (who tried to sign him along with Houston before last season). Another expansion team but with much different fortunes than the Bulls last season. Philly took the approach of not being a contender last season, but to instead build for the future. Acquiring multiple picks, GM @BladeMaiden, AGM @Jubo07, and the Reapers entered the draft looking to completely steal it from everyone, which on paper they seem to have done. At 19 overall the Reapers selected Rhys Chism. “I feel like they’ve had their eye on me since I entered the league. They’ve consistently shown interest in me, and I’m grateful to be with a team who wants me.” said Chism, “the rest of the league however, I think they really screwed up by passing on me. This season you’ll see what I’m capable of. Chains are off. We want the cup.”

Chism is looking to build from a solid rookie campaign and cement his legacy in the VHLM before moving up to the VHL with Helsinki next season. As for the Reapers, expectations are high after an initial season where they only had 11 wins. They are one of the favorites to contend for the cup this season, and the locker room (Rhys Chism in particular) are very confident. Chism has set a goal of playing at a point per game pace for the season. “Point per game at the absolute minimum. That’s my personal goal. I feel like my game at this point is at another level than it was last season. Last year I had to get used to the league, now I’m ready to really get out there and play my game. But the ultimate goal is winning the cup with my guys.”

Everyone in the locker room seems to be on the same page and getting along great as well. Rhys had this to say on the subject. “Going to a new team is tough. You know at first I didn’t know what to expect, and I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy the locker room here in Philly after how incredible Houston’s was last season. But I gotta tell ya, the locker room here is pretty on par with how Houston’s was last season. Everyone gets on real well, and everyone is on the same page. It’s an incredible group of people. I’m happy to be here.”

There’s only one thing on Chism and the rest of the Reapers locker room’s minds at this point. “We want to get started. We want to be on that ice, we want to win, we just want to get out there, we’re sick of waiting. We know we can win it all, we’re a talented group. I’m ready to show everyone what they passed up on. This is gonna be a fun season. The Reapers are coming for ya.”

One thing is for sure, this season will be exciting as the Reapers look to stake their claim atop the league after finishing at the bottom last season. Good luck to all.

Review: I like the things that you focused on in this media spot, particularly the specific goals that Chism has for the season. Specifically, I think it really helped give some insight to the grit the player has, and paints a picture of the player's personality, and the locker room presence. Great job!
