Claimed:Moscow Red Wolves: Season 38 Draft Grade

Recommended Posts

The Season 38 VHLM Dispersal Draft just took place, and the Moscow Red Wolves selections were interesting. Possessing a total of 6 picks (2 in each round), the Moscow Red Wolves were in a position to become true competitors this season. Now, let us see the Season 38 Moscow Red Wolves Draft Class.

1st round (3): C Seth Rollins

This is considered a HUGE reach here. Upon the announcement of picks, rumor has it that Moscow fans were on the verge of a riot. Though Rollins has a decent amount of practice hours, he has been spotty about showing up to the rink to actually practice. It will be interesting to see if Rollins pans out, but this pick is still considered a bad pick and a major stretch for Mr. Bruce Wayne and the Moscow Red Wolves.

1st Round (8): LW Steve Tremblay

If Moscow switched the order of drafting Tremblay with Rollins, than there may not have been such a big issue. However, this did not happen, and the Moscow Red Wolves were super lucky that Tremblay fell in the draft. Now imagine if Moscow was able to bag a high first round talent and Tremblay. Anyway, Steve Tremblay fell into Moscow’s lap, and he will definitely be one of the top players on this team. With Tremblay’s hard work and dedication to the game, Moscow has struck it rich late in the first round.

2nd Round (13): G Jose Canseco

This was actually a very good for Moscow. With them lacking a goalie, Moscow went with the best 2nd best goalie in the draft with their first 2nd round pick. Canseco has shown dedication to getting better, and Moscow was willing to spend the high pick on him. Canseco will be the starting goaltender this season. Good solid pick here for Moscow.

2nd Round (17): RW Dan Cooper

Moscow adds another forward with both practice hours and dedication to getting better. Cooper is a good addition here as the number of quality players starts to thin. Cooper should be able to provide forward depth for Moscow.

3rd Round (23): LW Josh Bennett

The issue with the 3rd Round is that all the picks are either hits or misses with the majority falling in the latter option. Bennett has some practice hours, but rarely shows up to practice. It should be interesting to see if this late round pick is able to mature and grow into a strong player for Moscow.

3rd Round (30): RW David Sharp

And Mr. Irrelevant is RW David Sharp. Sharp does not impress much, but could still produce for Moscow. He has no practice hours as he has never shown up to practice, but maybe he will decide to change his ways and come to practice. Either way, he will be on the ice for Moscow’s games.

Overview: I give the Moscow Red Wolves a “C” for this draft. Picking Seth Rollins with the 3rd overall pick is a huge stretch that has really hurt Moscow’s competition ability. Solid picks in Tremblay, Canseco, and Cooper help elevate the grade. Bennett and Sharp are relatively neutral, and therefore do not really have an effect on the grade. The strongest factor that pulls down Moscow’s grade is the Seth Rollins pick and the lack of defensemen despite the obvious need for some. Hopefully, the Red Wolves are able to put together a competitive roster this upcoming season.
