Brick Wahl for MVP

 

Few players have been as valuable to their team as retiring goaltender @BladeMaiden Brick Wahl has been to the up-and-coming Prague Phantoms this season. What a final year this was for Wahl as he posted career-best numbers to lead the Phantoms to a record-breaking season for the young franchise including missing out on the first seed in the European Conference by a shootout goal and led all VHL goalies in many statistical categories.

 

He led all goalies (who played in 20 or more games) in Goals Against Average (1.97) and Save Percentage (0.931), was only 11 goals (126) behind the leader (Finn Davison - 115) in Goals Against while playing in six more games, and was 3^rd in Shutouts (7). All of those number set or tied Wahl’s career bests. He was also tied for 5^th in the VHL for Wins (33) which was tied for the 2^nd-best mark of his career.

 

Under Wahl’s stellar play between the pipes, the Phantoms' fourth season in the league was their best to date as the team posted franchise records for lowest goals against (169), penalty kill rating (84.1%), wins (36), road wins (16), and points (82). To highlight Wahl’s value to Prague this season, consider this: the Phantoms had the 2^nd-best defense in the league which was imperative as they were the 3^rd-lowest scoring team and the most penalized - by 93 minutes! Yet, their penalty kill ranked fourth best in the league in spite of giving up at least 63 more power plays than any other team. Wahl was the backbone of that penalty killing unit.

 

Wahl should win the Greg Clagane Trophy (Lowest GAA) and should be a front-runner for the Aidan Shaw Trophy for Top Goaltender as well. As shown here, Brick Wahl has been as valuable a player for the Prague Phantoms, if not more, than any other player has been to their team this season and should become only the second goalie in 13 seasons (Kallis Kriketers in S69) to win the Scotty Campbell Trophy as MVP of the VHL for S71.
