animal74 1,810
After remarkable drafts in S68 and S69 that set up the franchise for future success, the Prague Phantoms had no draft picks in S70 and only five over the last two drafts. Their first pick (5th overall) in the S71 draft, rambunctious winger Thomas Landry II, just completed a promising rookie campaign where he finished 7th in VHL rookie scoring and led the team in hits and game-winning goals. But who is the next star prospect that will help shape the fortunes of the Phantoms in the upcoming seasons? Here is a quick look at the top two prospects in the Prague #Phamily. #1 Woody McPine, G @HearnNation67 6' 4" | 188 lbs Drafted: 3rd Round, 35th Overall (S71) A native of Nova Scotia, Woody McPine used family tragedy to spurn himself to the brink of hockey stardom. He has been a tireless worker since Prague made him their next pick after Landry II, and he is expecting to fight for the backup role behind newly-minted starter Solomon Crawford. He’s a tall, lanky netminder with solid skills that likes to handle the puck. The Phantoms are really excited about his potential. #2 Riley Knight Gee, D @KnightRiley 5' 10" | 200 lbs Drafted: 3rd Round, 32nd Overall (S72) Prague management were ecstatic when Gee fell to them in the 3rd round of this past draft. They considered him a 2nd rounder and didn’t waste time plucking the small but solid defender from Manitoba. Gee excels at both ends of the ice in spite of his size. He is a smooth skater, deft passer, and is not afraid to sacrifice his body to block shots. Scouts have said his defensive game could still use work but that’s normal for a young blueliner. Prague can’t wait to see how Gee continues his development. Click here for #3-4.
