The Season 39 VHL Draft Rankings are back with their third installment this week.  After a short break it gave our draftees two weeks to give it their all and cause drastic changes to the big board.  We have seen six new skaters enter the draft bringing our new total up to twenty-eight.  We need just two more now to have three full rounds.  Even though there was a break we also saw our biggest number of total draftees show improvement with seventeen.  Dating back to the start of the Season 38 Draft Rankings this is the highest number of practicing players we’ve seen so far.

Perhaps the most exciting part of this draft is only seven players haven’t shown up to practice at this point.  It is worth noting that three of those seven are newly declared and may yet start practicing in the minors before the draft starts.  Three of the new prospects showing great promise that aren’t being featured today are James Faraday, Devin Sunderberg, and Jarome Iginla.  Keep an eye on these late Season 39 Draftees that are slowly sneaking their way into the first around.

Who is HOT?

Jackson Miller
He was featured already in our “Top” article last edition it must be said that he is still showing no mercy.  After already having logged the most practice hours of any draftee he is actually pulling away from the pack.  His play on the ice is being rewarded with his tons of preparation currently he ranks fourth in total points in the VHLM with 71.

Tyson Stokes
He is a very quiet individual that may go unnoticed by many but he is quietly and consistently staying near the top of the draft.  On a weaker Brampton Blade team sitting out of playoff contention he is putting up decent playmaker center numbers.  He has twenty-five assists in 31 games and his -6 rating is far better than fellow draftee Hudson Backenbauer at -14.

Sam Keeler
Keeler is a later addition to this draft but is represented by a very prominate VHL agent Kyle.  Currently he is a late first early second projection but was originally seen as a mid-second draftee.  Expect him to continue to climb and potentially become a mid-first when the draft actually arrives.  He is on that same Blade team but where most have a negative rating he sits even.  Only six points so far in 31 games look for his late season push to possibly help the team make the playoffs.

Who is NOT?

Tyrone Williams
Last edition of the Season 39 Draft Rankings had Williams as one of the “Top” prospects.  What a difference two weeks can make.  We did warn that his long term potential could be an issue and he has fallen from a potential first overall pick to a mid-first.  With hungry players coming up behind him in Stokes, Erikson, and Canseco he has to re-focus if he wants to stay a top five prospect.

Milos Denis
If I had to pick a wildcard in this draft it would be Milos Denis.  He is repped by Tyler who brought us players like Pavel Dubnikov and Connor Evans.  Lately we saw Tyler Owens who should have been a first round talent ended up becoming a VHLM washout.  Expect Denis to go in similar fashion he either becomes a first round VHL prospect or a second round lifer in the VHLM.

Backenbauer Clan
We have to give a break for Heinrick since he has just declared to the draft.  Hudson and Hunter though have been here for a while now as part of this class.  In recent weeks we’ve seen them stumble from late first round talents to potentially mid second picks.  Together they don’t even possess the talent of the top five prospects in the draft.  Maybe their father or mother can slap some sense into these guys and they can buckle down for a late season push.
