The VHL/VHLM Claim to Fame: Blazzer

Written by: Darius Marimoto

From being just an ordinary player in the VHL/VHLM, to becoming part of the management in Yukon, let’s dive into the story and uprising of Blazzer (Lee Xin). In June of 2020, Blazzer was on his college break when he was introduced to the league via Google Play Store.

According to Blazzer, “The VHL gen chat was terrifying. All the GMs were terrifying. But the community was very active and chatty which is great. The ‘newcomers help’ channel saved me for sure when I just joined because the commissioner answered all the questions I had, and was very helpful towards building my player. Great to see that still happens today.”

From when he came into the league, to now, the board of commissioners have been some of the best people to go to when it comes to helping out newer players get into the league. In June, Blazzer thought that he wouldn’t make much of an impact in the league, due to him believing that the only way to get ahead was to write articles, but as time went on, he eventually came around to liking the league. He even was inspired to help manage a team.

“The VHL is a family of sport loving people that come together to have fun, and chat and game in voice chats. That really made me stay because of how nice this place is. Managing a team came way later. I was just thinking about how these guys were helping me out when I first came into the league, and I want to do the same for those that were like me. People like Beav and Gustav really made me want to manage a team,” Blazzer says.

It’s not just the front offices that helped him grow to appreciate the VHL, it’s also the teams. For him, that team would be the Ottawa Lynx.

“The team that was so important to me has got to be Ottawa. Cole and Spyro made the league understandable to me and with the great group there, it's just something you can't say bye to easily. I'm not saying my short stint with the hounds wasn't great but because it was, however, I wasn't that active there.”

From humble beginnings, to now being part of the Yukon Rush management team, Blazzer has had quite the ride to becoming the player he is today. He helped establish the first ever women's only chat room, ‘Breakfast Club’ in the VHL discord, creating the official VHL twitter page to expand the exposure of the VHL to many more people, and of course becoming the AGM of the Rush. He’s had quite the ride in the league, and there is much more for him left to do.

“Oh, no for sure. I thought I was gonna be someone that was unknown to anyone. I mean the impact I have made hasn't been significant but as of late, it's been showing a little. A group of us made a twitter group which you are a part of as well,  and we managed to get a ladies club going because of a tampon snowman. I must say the VHL is growing in other ways too! The impact I make is not noticeable as compared to the impacts that Josh, Acyd and d_a make. Never could have imagined the stuff I have achieved in here today.”

As the time went on, and he began to want to make an impact in the league, he felt like it was time for him to help manage a team; something that he’s been wanting to do for quite some time.

“I wanted to become an AGM because I wanted to be more participative in the league, not just in the forums by updating and writing articles, but also in the management part of it. I see how great this league can be and I want to help as much as I can. Also, I just love to manage teams in general.”

I enjoyed that interview a lot! Great questions and a great interviewer nonetheless. Thank you Darius, again for this opportunity :)

I also enjoyed it too. Thanks for your time again.
