Americans Looking Forward To Playoffs

The New York Americans are looking forward to hitting playoff ice for the first time since Season Thirty-Four. A three year playoff drought might not seem like a big deal, but in a city that has become accustom to the team making the playoffs, three years seemed like an eternity for some of the team's fanbase. The Americans made things interesting in the playoff race during the last two seasons battling with the Seattle Bears, but this year was a totally different story for the club from the Big Apple. The season hasn’t been as easy as it has seemed during the season, with the team experiencing many different hiccups throughout the season. Today we’ll look at what the Americans need to do to be successful once playoff hockey rolls around.

First Line:

The big three on the Americans roster did exactly what they were brought in to do. Odin Tordahl, Xin Xie Xiao, and Tom Slaughter have been the offensive catalysts for the team all season long, especially in Tordahl’s case as he is currently leading the league in goals, assists, and points. After two mediocre seasons Xin Xie Xiao has finally found his place on the VHL ice. The power-forward from Shanghai, China has expected to be a top offensive performer when he was drafted Third Overall back in the Season Thirty-Six VHL Entry Draft. Tom Slaughter has been the play-maker he was advertised to be when he came to the Americans two seasons ago. The first line has been responsible for 124 of the Americans 230 goals on the season and will need to continue producing offensively for the Americans to make any sort of noise come playoff time.

Tukio’s Final Stand:

A late free agent signing by the Americans, Tukio has been one of the best players to don the red, white, and blue this season. After dominating the European Conference for six seasons before coming to the North American conference last season, Tukio is ready to win his Continental Cup in each conference, sending his hall-of-fame career out with one final bang. After a rocky start to the beginning of the season, Tukio’s play improved as he got more comfortable with the new roster in-front of him, improving to the point of jumping miles ahead of many other goalies in the important goalie stats. Tukio leads all VHL goalies in save percentage with a .938 save percentage, as well as leading all goalies in goals against average sitting an amazing 1.60. Tukio’s amazing season could also turn out to be a record breaking season if he continues on he current pace. Cal G holds the record for the lowest goals against average in the VHL with a 1.60 way back in Season Twenty-Seven, which is Tukio post’s anymore shutouts could fall this season. Tukio’s main focus will be continuing his strong regular season play into the playoffs to help the Americans hopefully hoist the Continental Cup at the end of it all.
