  13. New York, NY, USA - Some complain that there just aren't enough brand-new draftees playing in the VHL - and it's not necessarily unfounded, even with the expansion teams making their debut this season. But one S68 draftee making an impact in a big way is New York's Lance Flowers, a defenseman who spent time with both Yukon and Halifax in the minors over the last couple of seasons. Since entering the league, he's kept up a blistering ~0.87 ppg pace - which frankly is hard enough for second or even some first-line league vets to keep up with. While it may be a bit of an outlier and could regress to the mean, Flowers has accomplished this in spite of being a primarily stay-at-home defender (90 DF, 70 SC) with high-quality playmaking capabilities; he currently sits at 43rd in the league overall in terms of points, but is tenth among defensemen. Doing what he's done to this point in this season makes Flowers an easy candidate to watch for RotY - but the question remains as to whether those drafted near him - Connor Adrienne, Thorny Underyew, and Jeff Downey among them - will have enough playing time (or the ability) to catch up. With S67 players spending a year in the VHLM also getting a crack at Rookie of the Year, Flowers has his work cut out for him.
  14. That's right - we're back (at least for this week). Have some questions on this lovely Saturday: 1. Seattle has a pretty commanding 11-3-1 record right now. How are they doing it with just one player over 700 TPE? 2. At 9-5-1, we're already a few points out of the lead - what's it going to take to right the course? 3. Toronto actually has one, single draft pick left over the next two seasons. Why haven't they traded it away yet? 4. After being controversially voted in for MVP over Podrick Cast, Rauno Palo is leading the league in points again - this time without Beau Louth at the head. Is he the real deal? 5. Sven Hitz already has 72 hits and 43 shots blocked -- just about equaling his S67 totals just 15 games into the season. Is he in the conversation for DPotY this season? 6. Our old teammate Mikko Aaltonen currently leads the league in Power Play Goals with 6, second in overall goals with 12, and is the only player with 2 hat tricks right now. Any words for him? 7. What's the plan for hazing introducing our S68 draftees to the team when they're brought up next season? Any traditions? 8. How long do you think it'll take for the Dragons and Phantoms to become competitive? 9. Dogs or cats (or birds or lizards or...)? 10. As we get older, we sometimes get out of the loop with popular trends. What's something about the youngins that you just don't understand?

  23. Review A relatively thorough and well-reasoned article about Seattle's likely draft selection: I like it! Since there are quite a few teams in the league, it's sometimes tempting to go big-picture and lose a lot of nuance in how you make decisions for an article (I'm definitely guilty of this); Kovalchuk notwithstanding, I agree with your overall assessment of Seattle's hierarchy of needs, and readers can easily tell how much work you put into researching Seattle. You were right in the end, too, which is always a nice resolution to an article.
