    1. Prague missed on returning to the playoffs by just one point a season after winning the Cup, they'll be back.

    2. Fuuka Rask has carried Helsinki from making the playoffs by just a single point to being within a game of the playoffs to a game from the Continental Cup Finals.

    3. Cookies!! They're always the best when you sneak them off the table while they're still warm and soft!

    1. What's your favorite holiday tradition?

    2. What VHL team (not necessarily in the playoffs this season) is most in need of a Cup win?

    3. Who do you think is the most underrated player in the VHL right now?

    1. Fresco’s beer podcast for sure.

    2. I think Moscow. They’ve had one of the best GM’s I’ve seen in the league, and it is time for that to reflect into the trophy sheet.

    3. Myself.

    1. Do you have any holiday traditions if you celebrate?

    2. What is your favorite winter activity?

    3. If you could take a spontaneous trip right no where would you go?

    1) I feel like he will keep playing until he ends up breaking the total. However, only have five goals to this point is a bit concerning.

    2) Well, I'm going to be going into the VHL/VHLE draft. I'll be in the VHLE, then I'll be heading to the VHL two seasons after that.

    3) I don't know what I'd add, but I'd make fighting or grit actually worth it.

    Ask 3

    1) Which team do you think is going to win the VHL cup?

    2) What NHL team has been the most surprising this season, good or bad?

    3) What is your favorite snack and why?

    1. Could this be Helsinki’s year?

    2. The Philadelphia Flyers were supposed to be horrible, there they are in 2nd in the Metro currently.

    3. That’s a tough question but gotta go with mini tacos.

    1. Where have you always wanted to go on vacation?

    2. Would you rather be in a cold, snowy climate or humid, hot climate?

    3. What is the most fun type of player to build in the VHL?

  3. Houston Bulls defenseman Vanellope von Schweetz is apart of a team as von Schweetz has referred to as a “well oiled machine.” In her words. “The team has so much talent but it’s been a back and forth battle. One day we look like the top dawg in the league. The next we look like a borderline playoff team. Same goes for myself I’ll either light the scoreboard up or have a quiet night. There appears to be no in between. However I have nothing but faith in our squad. I know we will pull it together when it matters the most. von Schweetz concluded after Houston’s double header on Sunday. It is clear Houston is no doubt a top tier titan in the VHLM, but there have been some inconsistencies in their performances at times. Is this something they can clear up before the playoff run?

    2. Bluetooth speaker for sure.

    3. I think that would be awesome. We have Christmas and all to look forward to but I feel like we could use something in the middle of the year as well.

Recruitment has always been one of the most important jobs in the VHL. It is one of the most important jobs in any simming league. If a league cannot keep a steady flow of fresh members, it puts the league in a period of inactivity. It puts more pressure on the current members to stay consistent, as they are literally the only ones holding the league’s legs up at that point in time. A league can survive a period where the well is dry, we have seen it in the VHL during a few different era. It’s scary, it brings the fear that the end is near and the league is on the verge of collapsing. That is where recruitment is critical. Having a good recruitment team who can get creative can pull a league out of the weeds.

Even a good recruitment team can struggle, they’re going down every avenue and pulling all the tricks but the well is still dry. I’ve personally experienced this. During my time in the VHL, I’ve held many jobs. Recruitment was one of them during my early days in the VHL. We definitely took advantage of the YouTube boom, which is still a very relevant form of recruiting today. I also recruited a good chunk of my real life friends while we were in high school. I at one point got 10 members in just from home, all active for at least a brief stent. I was ironically recruited from my best friend, so it was a chain. Going on YouTube and posting the link on “Proboards” main forum was a big method of members joining at one point. This was called the “teen bloom” where during the teen years of the VHL (S15-S20) we started driving in new members using this method. I was in the YouTube video making game for a while. Had the elite tools such as Microsoft Movie Maker to get the job done. Throughout my VHL tenure I’ve been lucky enough to come across some awesome graphic creators in the league. They were never shy to share their skills for the sake of recruitment.

It is pretty cool to see advertising on websites such as YouTube and social media such as Facebook is still relevant to today’s recruitment. Also you have Twitter and Instagram to throw into the mix and can use hashtags to help draw attention. It seems Reddit may be the biggest tool to add to the gauntlet. Reddit is so popular and used by so many. Also the VHL sister pipeline with leagues such as the SBA draw huge benefits with the affiliate TPE links available. I am sure there are plenty of forums to openly advertise our link to. What I am curious is to what other tools or resources the modern recruitment team uses that have not been used in the past. I imagine they’ve had to get quite creative. The league could be trending towards another period of limbo if we enter another “ice age” where we see a freeze of new members.

I learned something new today, I had no idea he made a comeback at some point haha! It must have been after I made my hiatus!

    1. Jake Thunder of Davos is having a really strong season offensively, and is still hitting and blocking shots at a good pace so far as well. He's definitely in the running for the Labatte.

    2. This is a tough one, as there isn't really a clear standout that excels at everything. CGY Janser is killing it with hits and blocked shots, but isn't a top ten in points. Leif Reingaard leads all defensemen in points, but doesn't have a lot of hits and just cracks the top ten in shots blocked. Tyler Swift is probably the most balanced of the candidates so far.

    3. Petit Hughie has been showing out in points, hits, and shots blocked, and looks to be the front-runner in my opinion so far.

    1. We're already about halfway through the season, what's the biggest surprise so far?

  14. Vanellope Von Schweetz – Wreck-It Ralph (2012) – Character Driven Reviews by AzzaEzza

Straight out of Sugar Rush, a virtual reality become real! Vanellope von Schweetz is a notorious racer most notably known from the game Sugar Rush. She was by far the best racer in the game, and was beloved by all who played Sugar Rush in the arcade. Vanellope's game was developed out of Greenland, which is where she was born. Her game was bought by Stan Litwak, owner of Litwak's arcade in Los Aburridos, California. So Vanellope's decade in Greenland was over, and a new life awaited her in California. Vanellope was unfortunately subjected to childhood trauama while in California. Her game had been invaded and coding was corrupted by Turbo, the former jealous star of the game Turbo Time. Turbo Time used to be the most popular game in the arcade, and when that changed Turbo got jealous and started invading the other games, seeking attention. Everyone thought when Turbo TIme got unplugged, Turbo was gone. But he instead hid in Sugar Rush, impersonated King Candy and disconnected Vanellope's code from the game, making everyone forget she was the main racer/face of the game. This led Vanellope to a path of depression and isolation. She wanted to be a racer, not knowing she already was. During off-peak hours, Vanellope would go and play the NHL arcade game. She was very good, beating even the best players within their own game. Having such an ambition to fit into her own game, she never even thought of hockey as anything more than just a way to cope and waste time until the arcade opened again.

Vanellope's favorite position to play in NHL was defense, she enjoyed stopping the opposition and then joining the offensive rush the other way. In her terms the position is "the best of both worlds" if utilized properly. But still, this joy was only temporary as when Vanellope returned back to her game she knew she would just be a reject. All that joy from a night in NHL would disappear. Her home just wasn't a home. It wasn't until Ralph accidentally crashed into Sugar Rush that Vanellope was able to regain control of her game. With Ralph's help, she got a race car built and was able to enter the race. They were able to expose King Candy as Turbo, and Vanellope learned when she crossed the finish line the game would reset and her code would be restored. However, Ralph accidentally brought in virus bugs from the game "Hero's Duty" with him who invaded the game, so this process proved more difficult as Vanellope almost lost her life getting across the finish line. Upon this, she became the Princess of Sugar Rush again, and got to race every day. This made Vanellope happy for a time, but she eventually grew bored. She found herself taking more trips over and playing NHL. Her interests towards hockey grew more and more. She learned from Sonic at Tapers that there is a way to get into the real world entering the internet. Vanellope took this trip and was successful. She got into reality, and was going to play hockey for real!

Vanellope von Schweetz would play high school hockey in California, having more opportunity there than returning home to Grenland. She played defense for Los Aburridos High School Varsity team. When she took the ice for tryouts, there were smirks, and laughs about a girl getting a spot on essentially an all boys team, and her size caused them to underestimate her. She blew them away in tryouts, she was quick and got forwards off the puck quickly and would led the charge into the offensive zone. She was a constant threat being known as the 4th forward on a rush, but having the agility to get back on defense when needed. Vanellope set the scoring record for Los Aburrido's High School as a freshman, and has since been scouted by colleges, and leagues around the world including the VHL. This led von Schweetz to consider her options. She could leave high school early to persue a more developed league, or play out her senior year and then play for one of the many colleges interested in her, Vanellope elected to go to the VHL and start off in the minors. She received an offer from the San Diego Marlins, which was the most convenient for her being in California already. Vanellope considered and accepted GM Zach Arce's offer to play out the rest of the season with San Diego. She is set to take the ice with the Marlins today as they get set to defend their title in the playoffs. We expect big things from Vanellope von Schweetz, one thing you do not want to do is underestimate her or she will keep surprising you.
