  8. Name: JJ Dynamite Position: LW/RW Play style: Power Forward Jersey Number: 68 Age: 24 Height: 6’1” Weight: 190lbs Hometown: Edmonton, Alberta Handedness: Left Just like any kid from the north, JJ Dynamite eats, sleeps and breathes hockey. At a young age he showed a strong desire to play ice hockey and found himself going out of his way to squeeze in time for hockey wherever he could. Upon being eligible for the VHLM he was immediately picked up by the Moscow Red Wolves and thrusted into top 6 minutes including significant time on the power play and penalty kill. Through 50 games he has posted a modest 27 points, including 15 goals, good for 2nd overall on the team thus far. Below we highlight the 3 greatest strengths and weaknesses of the young JJ Dynamite and what he'll need to do in order to make it in this league. PROS: Shoot First Mentality: Without a doubt, JJ’s greatest strength is his ability to put the puck in the net. Although not a complete stranger to passing, if given the opportunity JJ will turn and shoot rather than make a pass. Some may call it one-dimensional and/or predictable, but with the clock counting down in the final minute of play there’s no one more dangerous with the puck in the offensive zone than JJ Dynamite. Physical Presence: Despite his relatively small stature for a power forward, JJ will use all of his 6’1” 190lbs frame to obtain the puck by any means necessary. This becomes particularly apparent when his team is down by a couple and in need of a big play to boost team confidence. Strong Skater: Hidden behind his shooting and physical game is JJ’s breakout speed. Without it his ability to get in a position to score or close in to make a big hit would be none existent. After scoring this is arguably JJ’s greatest strength and something he will need to continue to make strides at if he hopes to make it in the VHL. JJ Dynamite demonstrates the three main facets of his game: Speed, Scoring and Physicality CONS: Lacks Discipline: As highlighted above, JJ is no stranger to physicality and is not afraid to make a big hit if the opportunity becomes available. While in some cases this results in a clean hit and a roar from the crowd, it more likely results in JJ winding up out of position and the opposing team with a solid scoring chance. As JJ continues to work on his skating and defensive play this will become less and less likely, but for the time being it is much more evident. Poor with the Puck: Where his shooting and skating exceed expectations, his puck handling is lacking. Prone to turnovers at high speed and in the corners JJ will need to pay particular attention to improving his puck handling ability if he hopes to become a VHL regular. Small size: Not as significant as the two other cons, but JJ could use a bit more size if he hopes to become an elite power forward. At 6’1” he has a decent frame to work with, but his 190lb size could use some attention. OVERVIEW: JJ Dynamite is an explosive power forward with a knack for scoring and fast breakout plays down the wing. His puck handing and discipline could use some significant work if he hopes to eventually join the discussion as an elite talent in this league, but with time and maturity it could be reachable.
