  1. The league has been great, @Tagger is the man. Pregame routines include heavy meditation and spiritual enlightenment. Harvesting dark energy by use of ritual magic. He also keeps his original youth mouthpiece tucked into his shoulder pads. Chris Pronger, because I don't shut up and it becomes annoying. To lead the league in scoring and prove that 25 was far too low. No, everything is great and works exactly as it should. I look forward to getting to know all of you.
  2. Individual success breeds championships. They go hand and hand. Nobody asks how many cups the Kings won, they ask how many Gretzky has. Certainly. No one in my draft class has grinded as hard as me, and none of them will. There's not a chip on my shoulder, there's an entire mountain. No. I'm here to play hockey. I don't care what city I'm in, they're going to be winners. Huge fan of the Dynamo and Aces None. This place has been awesome and welcoming, but I could've been drafted better.
  3. I was sitting back waiting. After so long I grew bored and frustrated. Hearing name after name and seeing players I'm better than go before me based on their relationships to the GMs. I've never kissed anybody's ass, and I wasn't going to start leading into the draft, and I'm not going to start now. I wouldn't say it bothers me. I'll remember all 24 of the players picked before me. And I'll follow all 24 for my whole career. I have them written down, I made a list. At the end of my tenure, when all is said and done, I might not be remembered, but I bet you I'm at least better than 24 specific guys. I've played for bad hockey teams my entire career. Sergei knew exactly what he was doing, it wasn't by chance. He knew nobody would touch me, nobody wants the asshole... But he also knew when to pull the trigger. 25 wasn't by chance, he knew 25 would piss me off and light a fire on his offense. That's why I'm here. It's not my job to make the team better, it's my job to play to the best of my ability and score. If I score 4 goals and the team gives up 5, they lose but my star rises. It's a similar league, but the competition level isn't nearly the same. I'm not sure if it'll make a difference in the long run, but I think I'm as prepared as I can be. I'm not against switching position, but I feel like the team should accommodate me not the other way around. If it gets me more playing time over someone and it benefits my pockets and stat sheet, sign me up. I hope to burn the entire league down. I hope to carry the Sasky boys to the top of the league, and I will finish the season on top.

  5. LaVey Keeping Busy During Draft Week Travelling through the city of Youngstown, Ohio is no easy task. We here at the VHL Blog were sent to interview VHLM prospect Anderson LaVey at his home skating rink to get a few quotables for draft night. It was on this trip through the city that we realized how much this draft means not only to the young goal scorer, but to an entire city. We met up with Anderson at a small rink off the beaten path, after passing numerous bars and city mainstays with giant signs and posters supporting the young man. We sat down with Anderson at the 3rd Annual "LaVey League" Drive, a local initiative started by Anderson to get the youth of his area into hockey. VHL Blog: So, this is the LaVey League, what exactly is this and how did it start? Anderson LaVey: This started after I graduated high school. I played for a team but this area referred to it as a "Hockey Club" because there was only 2 other local schools with teams and between the 3 schools there was only 20 kids total, so it was kind of ignored locally. After I graduated I did research and found that most kids in this area can't afford hockey equipment so they never have a chance to pick up the game. I always had the best equipment in multiples because my parents pushed me. I decided to give back by seeing if I could maybe start fundraisers and drives to get the kids in my area equipment. After getting sponsors in the area and convincing the only ice rink in Northeast Ohio to let us hold events here once a week, the LaVey League was born to give the kids a chance to learn. VHL Blog: Wow, that's a really great story... Especially knowing your history of... Anderson LaVey: Being a gritty player and an intimidating force on the ice is one thing that will never change, but I'm not out here teaching them how to drop gloves. If they learn that on their own, that's their business. I'm simply providing them with an outlet to get started. VHL Blog: So you're the first hockey player in the city's history to enter the VHL Draft, how does that feel to you? Anderson LaVey: It's cool, man. This city is predominantly a football town and before that it was boxing. We had the USHL Finals here last year and it was the highest attended hockey event in the area. VHL Blog: That must've felt amazing... Anderson LaVey: No, it doesn't, because it was still only 200 people. I bust my ass for these kids and for this area, I do everything in my power to bring eyes to the sport locally, and no one cares. My goal is to not only go high in the draft, but to make an impact immediately. I want to start on whatever team I go to, make enough money to buy this rink, and burn it down. VHL Blog: Isn't that a little bit radical? Anderson LaVey: Not really, the families that are here right now are only here because I'm giving them free s*** they don't care about anything else. Draft night I'll be on the local news and everyone will talk about how great it is to see someone from this city succeed, and how amazing I am at hockey, when in actuality they've never even been to a game. It was at this moment that we realized Anderson's potential is limitless, but his mouth is as well. He wasn't drunk or inebriated, he genuinely has a chip on his shoulder and has since the first time he laced up a pair of skates. We intended to ask more questions, but Anderson became visibly frustrated and headed to the ice. He proceeded to do a shooting drill in front of the people in attendance, nailing target after target with a disgusted look on his face. The team that drafts him should prepare for a fiery player with a ferocious attitude and a chip the size of an entire city on his shoulder. LaVey is laser focused on proving everyone wrong, which could be a positive or a negative. Regardless of the outcome, it's damn enjoyable to see the heart he brings to the ice.
  6. Name: Anderson LaVey Position: LW Age: 22 Height: 6'0" Weight: 210 lbs Birth Place: Youngstown, OH Junior Hockey: Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) Hockey Background: Anderson LaVey is a lifetime Left Winger. He's spent 16 years playing in organized ice hockey. Currently playing in the United States Hockey League after being drafted by his hometown Youngstown Phantoms, Anderson is in the final year of eligibility and is looking to enter the VHL system. He was once regarded as a player to watch during his High School hockey tenure, but lack of direction and drive initially led him to be a Junior League lifer. Realizing his true potential during his run in Juniors, LaVey has turned his career in a positive direction and is looking to make an impact in his debut. He expects to be overlooked by most teams, but also expects to be an integral role player for whichever team he signs with. PROS Shooting Ability: LaVey relies on his ability to find the back of the net with a heavy slap shot, but he also has a way of finessing through defenders and finishing with a calculated backhander or a rising wrister. LaVey averaged 34 Power Play Goals last season based on his ability to find the net. Rebound Scoring: LaVey isn't afraid to get gritty and grind it out down low. Getting most of his goals off of rebounds and heads up hockey he definitely makes a difference in the slot. He's known to be a goalie pad's worst nightmare and can easily fill the best net keeper with regret after scoring on a rebound. He makes the best of every chance and it shows on the scorecard. Shot Blocking: LaVey is nowhere near a good defender, but it doesn't stop him from throwing his body on the line to keep the puck out of the net. Anderson has been seen since his younger days laying out on the ice and taking pucks to the ribs to avoid the other team getting an opportunity. His genuine fearlessness is both a blessing and a curse, he'll take a puck to the face and miss a few shifts before he lets a goal go in. CONS Attitude: Coming from a "I was the man in high school hockey" background, Anderson forgets that he blew his opportunity. He comes off as brash and always wants to be the center of attention for his team, making him a headache to deal with for coaches and other role players. His play speaks for itself, but for some reason he always feels the need to also speak. Drawing penalties is common place for LaVey because of his mouth, but he also doesn't know when to stop instigating, which leads to more troubles further down the line. Poor Passing Decisions: While LaVey can sauce his passes and pull off pretty impressive moves to open lanes for other players, he sometimes causes turnovers due to his lack of awareness. He doesn't always turnover his passes, but he's been known to give up obvious turnovers every so often after not reading coverage on another player properly. Style of Play: LaVey can wake up on Tuesday and decide he's going to be a finesse player and deke his defenders into infamy but wake up on Wednesday in a bad mood and decide he's going to fight the biggest Defenseman on the other team. When he's on, he's on, but when he's slumping, he's slumping something fierce. After an 8 game point drought in his first year in the USHL, LaVey was given two game misconducts in the next two games for excessive intimidation. If there's an off ice issue between he and a teammate, LaVey will let it spill out on the ice and decide whether or not he will be the only shooter on his shift. The Short Story: Anderson LaVey is a loud mouth goal scoring rebound machine. He can't be recommended to a team with big egos and personalities as he will likely clash with the dynamic and throw a wrench into plans. However, a solid front office that is able to reel him in and focus him directly on hockey will benefit strongly from his abilities. A team looking to add grit and get more goals off the bounce would definitely benefit by adding him as long as he remains solely focused on hockey and not anything unrelated.
  7. I recall seeing this place before but I didn't have the time to do anything. He kind of reminded me it existed.
