Girts got a reaction from Frank in Wolves Extend Young Core
The Vancouver Wolves recently locked up three of their S92 first round picks to long term extensions! These young superstars are all coming off strong rookie seasons and management identified they are a core group to build around. Vancouver signed long-time dynamic duo Logan Ninefingers and Guntis Gavilrovs to identical 5 year contracts locking them up through season 99! The Wolves also inked budding superstar Riley Martin to a 3 year extension through season 97 and maybe even signed some others I'm not yet aware about! Management is doing a great job ensuring the Wolves have the high end future stars they need to push for a championship in the coming seasons. There's no question Ninefingers, Martin and Gavilrovs have the skills to lead Vancouver to their next cup and the players couldn't be more excited about it. Guntis Gavilrovs just bought a home on Vancouver Island and at first GM @Frank was nervous that Guntis might be late for games and practices having to take the ferry over, but felt better when Guntis told him he had 3 girlfriends in downtown Vancouver and could stay at their apartments when needed. If the number of girlfriends Gavilrovs is currently juggling is any indication, we are in for a fun season in Vancouver next year!

Girts reacted to Scurvy in Around the League- Trades !
Another week gone and a lot has happened in the VHL for some clubs.  Others, like mine, we sit idle waiting for the Pro-Am to begin to see our players back in the mix.  For this week’s “around the league’ I will talk about some recent trades, the upcoming draft, and any other random stuff that gets me to 500 words.

    TRADES
May 10th and 11th were busy on the trade front which as cool to see.  Lets take a look.

    DAV/PRG
Prague sent all-star defenseman Skor McFleury @AlexAlex to Davos with a 3rd round pick for a 2nd rounder and 3rdrounder.  Skor brings to Davos a true defensive leader and point on the PP.  24 goals last year and over 100 points shows this aging veteran still has loads in the tank.  A true Hall of Fame level dman he brings leadership and pedigree to a quickly rebuilding Davos.  The fact he has already won a Cup in Davos just adds to the greatness of this move.  Paired with David Jokinen they could be deadly in the tough EU conference.

    DAV/SEATTLE
In another trade by Davos we see GM @AlexAlex snag goal scoring phenom Sadie St-Louis @sadieSadie for a 3rdround pick.  Fresh off a Continental Cup win this is a smart move for Davos to add a four-time 30+ goal scorer who likes to shoot the puck in bunches.

    New York:
New York made a couple trades as well and picked up Kevin OConnor @luke033 and Yaroslav Trunov @qriplll from Chicago for Francesco Mancini.  In a separate trade they snatched Chuck E Cheese @a_Ferk for a 4th rounder.  Trunov is a pure goal scorer and two 40+ goal seasons in last two year.  He will add some punch to an up-and-coming NY club.

    CHI/HSK
Chicago made another move grabbing monster defenseman, Yaboi Oven @Doomsday from Helskini for depth player Bryce Woodworth and a first-round pick. YaBoi brings some serious defensive talent to add to Chicago’s young talented back end.  22 goals last season and 86 points he showed he can lead the power play even with his giant size.  I look for him to pair well with a Lionel Colberg or Karol Lamb @dlamb.  Can’t miss pick for Chicago.

    HSK/MAL/VAN
In a three-way trade Vancouver obtained 50 goal phenom, Owen Lazaro @traphag from Helskinki.  Malmo obtained Vlad Von Carstein @Dom, and Helskinki got a S96 2nd rounder, Mikko Borisyuk, Ocean Codoler, and a S94 3rd rounder.  This is another huge trade by @Frank trying to re-build the Wolves into contenders.  This trade happened only a day after he obtained All- Stat dman, Mark Calaway @Beketov who has had two 30 goals season in a row and is still in his prime. Scary to think of a defensive core that includes Liv Slater @Subject056and Calaway.  Even scarier when you add that massive animal Guntis Gavilrovs @Girts.

I think the winners are Vancouver and Davos so far, this off-season trades.  It’s still very early but both clubs seemed to add some veteran punch.  Davos still has some growing to do but they are re-building quickly and Vancouver is putting together some good veteran pieces around some young up and coming talent.

    See ya next week

In the Cologne Locker room Annie Oaks quietly packs her stuff up before going to speak with the Cologne media one final time before moving on.
One reporter asks: "How do you feel your season was here in Cologne"
Annie: "I feel like I did alot of things right this year and worked on some aspects of my game that needed some work. However I would be lying if I said I was happy with my year, so I'm going to continue to work through the off season in order to improve and have the best season I can this upcoming year."
Reporter asks: "any comments on how the psotseason went this year"
Annie: "We had a very tough opponent in round one and it was a tight series all the way. That being said the expectation was to win the cup and we didn't do that so we failed to meet what was expected of us, the fans deserved a cup and we couldn't deliver."
Reporter asks: "how do you feel about the teams chances in the upcoming season."
Annie: "The roster shouldn't be changing much and so I suspect that Cologne will once again be a top team in the league. I would even say I think they'll be the favorite to win the cup next year."
Reporter says: "do you have any last things you'd like to say to the fans of Cologne before you leave for Vancouver"
Annie: "I'd like to thank the fans for supporting us all year and coming out to all the games making the environment in that Cologne arena one of the best places I've played yet. I hope you will continue to cheer on your team and have your cheers rewarded with a cup as soon as possible."

Girts reacted to Scurvy in Wolves snatch Calaway in trade
First, congrats to Seattle, Oslo, and Saskatoon on winning their perspective Cups.  Nothing is better than winning a Cup.  I was fortunate to win won two seasons ago in Bratislava and my first gen player won in Warsaw.  It’s a very tough goal to achieve in this league it seems when there is so much competition.

That being said, I hope every other VHL team loses all games against us next season.  For Vancouver, the off-season has been long but our future is bright right now with a good set of rookies still earning and ready to play at a higher level next season. Added to this GM @Frank made a great move yesterday trading for stud defenseman, Mark Calaway @Beketov.  Calaway has had two 30+ goals in a row and brings a winning pedigree to a club that expects winning.  Calaway is still in his prime and will be a great mentor and asset to a young Wolves club.

New week, new rambling! Probably only a few weeks of this left and then I'll be back to simming but for now, I need that sweet sweet TPE so ramble I must!

Obvious thing out of the way, Calaway was traded! Madness, absolute madness! I say that not because I haven't been traded before but because it's been awhile. Calaway has been with DC his entire career and my last player never left Moscow so I haven't been traded since I was dealt from Moscow to London in Lahtinen's final season. Come to think of it Lahtinen got traded a few times... anyway it's been a good while since I received the "you've been traded" notification. I wasn't particularly surprised by it since I had already talked to @FrostBeard a bit ago and I knew I was being shopped around but still, always fun to have a bit of change. Plus Vancouver was one of a very short list of teams I have never played for despite them being in the league since S30. That list now contains only Prague, Warsaw, Chicago, and LA which is pretty crazy. Maybe someday I'll finish off the full list; or maybe I'll be forced to expand the league more and it will make my goal harder to attain. Either way it's cool to finally don the black and white, plus @Frank and I have always gotten on really well so that's fun.

Not really much rambling this time I guess since that's likely already enough words.... Trivia is easy, see you all next week!

    1. Not the Bears then. Anyone but the bears. I love it here.

    2. I have no idea wtf this is so I will say Wann Kerr because he's the one guy I know in the finals.

    3. Yes Wann Kerr, former teammate on my last player, he's great.

    4. Again I have no idea, so let's say one of the teams in the league that awards that cup won it. Geeze you're showing how clueless I am, thanks.

    5. The team that is leading will lift the cup in 5 games.

    6. I would take one of our GM's players and to decide I would make them play a 7 game series on NHL 24 or whatever most recent game they both have.

    Guntis Gavilrovs S93 Rookie Experience

In season 93 for the Vancouver Wolves 6'8" 250 pound Latvian rookie defenseman Guntis Gavilrovs broke into the VHL after a huge season in the VHLE for Stockholm that saw him win the Jake Thunder Trophy as Defenseman of the Year. Expectations were high but tempered making the jump into the pros. Guntis knew he had the size to make his mark physically but catching up to the speed and skill of the game would probably be his biggest adjustment. He would join 4 other rookies in Vancouver alongside Logan Ninefingers, Riley Martin, Vlad Von Carstein and DB IV which made his transition a little easier.

    Seasons Goals:

His goals for his rookie season were to carry over his hard-nosed physical play from juniors and contribute some offense while not being too much of a liability on a rebuilding Vancouver team. Of course, Gavilrovs always has his sights set on the playoffs but realistically the Wolves were not a favorite this year. Therefore, his main goal was to continue to develop his all-around game while knocking the living shit out of everyone in the process.

How Guntis Adapted to the Pros:

Gavilrovs adapted reasonably well to the pro game in terms of physicality and shot blocking but he struggled a bit with the speed of the game and took a lot of penalties. He contributed respectable offense for a rookie defenseman, but his plus minus was atrocious, by far worst on of any defenseman on the team. Even with Vancouver being in kind of a rebuild his -40 is something that he needs to work on going into his sophomore season, along with being more disciplined. Otherwise, he was pretty good and adapted well to the VHL.

    How Gavilovs Performed:

Guntis posted great physical numbers and blocks for his rookie season. His 253 hits and 164 blocks were both #1 on the team. He also had 191 penalty minutes which unceremoniously were also #1 on the team. He played a very mean physical game, always looking for a big hit and had a major edge getting into 5 fights and always sticking up for his teammates. He also posted respectable offensive numbers with 7 goals, 28 assists for 35 points including a handful on the powerplay. Overall, it was a great physical season for the big defenseman with solid contributions across the board.

    Future Expectations:

Heading into his sophomore season Gavilrovs needs to continue his intense physical play and shot blocking while improving his overall defense while he tries to chip in a little more offensively. There's no question that he has the intangibles to become one of the best defenseman in the league, certainly one of the best defensive defenseman and the meanest, which is something he takes a lot of pride in. He just signed a long-term extension with the Vancouver Wolves and will be head hunting opposing players for years to come. Take this as your warning VHL. Guntis Gavilrovs has arrived!
