Last night, Kari Jurri got his first taste of VHLM action in a home game against the Ottawa Lynx. Even though Storm lost 2-1 in overtime, Jurri saw over 15 minutes of action on the third line and had the primary assist on the only goal of the game late in the third period that gave the Storm a 1-0 lead. He also had two shots in the game and was a +1. The game winning goal was scored just 18 seconds into the overtime period. He also got 30 seconds of power play time as well. “I was definitely nervous during warmups and stepping out onto the ice for my first shift, but once I got into the flow of the game, I settled down quite a bit. I knew these guys were going to be bigger, faster and stronger and I just wanted to get out there and play my game and make sure I didn’t make any mistakes that would cost us a goal.” “On my assist, I just wanted to get the puck to the net since there was traffic in front of the goalie and somehow my shot made it through all the bodies. It hit the goalie in the pads and kicked out in front of an open net and Zimmer banged it home. Definitely wished we would have won the game, but happy to contribute in my first game.”

1) The World Junior Championship is finally underway; who do you think wins it all and why? Its hard to go against a team like Canada or Europe but in the end I think the strong goaltending of Canada gives them a slight edge over Europe 2) With VHLM playoffs right around the corner, where do you see your team ending up when its all said and done? I think Oslo makes the playoffs but being behind the top 3 in points by a far margin, I don't see a first round upset at all 3) How do you feel about your own personal performance thus far? Do you need to step it up, or stay consistent with what you have? My first set of games will be today, so I am just going to skate hard and play solid two way hockey and try not to make any mistakes to give the Storm the best chance of winning 4) What team do you think will be the biggest surprise in the last portion of this season? I think Ottawa has the chance to surprise people even though they are in 3rd and just one point out of second -- even though they may not score a lot, they appear to have a solid defense and play the type of hockey to succeed in the playoffs 5) Where do you see yourself at this point next season? What do you hope to have accomplished by then? Definitely a force on both ends of the ice -- offensively by scoring goals and causing havoc in front of the net and defensively by back checking and creating turnovers in the neutral zone, and would love to help the Storm be one of the top teams in the league next season 6) What do you like most about the VHL? What keeps you around? Love the game of hockey and being able to build my own player and test out different skill set and everyone has been so helpful both here and on discord which is a big reason why I joined and will stick around
