Wow, I almost forgot about this. Summer is making me lose all perception of time here. Let's kick this thing off... Rules are here The Town of Salem Wiki is here If you think you're too good to read my opening post, I'd tell you to click something else, but you wouldn't do it because you wouldn't have read it. So I'm not going to. This is an ANY ALL game. Here's what that means. Role list: And here are my usual copy-pasted guidelines: -I'm going with my usual starting and ending times as a general guideline: WHENEVER THE HELL I WAKE UP marks the start of each day phase, and 9 PM EST marks the start of each night phase. Those will be the times that I'll aim for, but, officially, the start of one phase and the end of another comes whenever I make the announcement. You'll be pinged. I will do my best to give out expected announcement times, but I reserve the right to kick off any phase at any time. -No talking in this thread during night phases. That goes for everybody, regardless of role. I have no power to lock this thread at night, and there's no official penalty for talking in here at night, but if you see one of your fellow citizens doing so, please yell at them for me. -Do not edit posts. I've been relaxed about not yelling at people who have, but editing is a sneaky way to take out potentially incriminating information. If you say something stupid, too bad. Don't change it. -If you are reasonably able to be online at the start of the night phases, please make an effort to do so. The JAILOR is able to speak with you in their own Discord server at night, and that is when I will send an invite to whoever is jailed. If it is within your power to do so and doesn't present a huge inconvenience, please be online when the night phase starts and please join the server out of respect for the Jailor and their time. -DO NOT PM ANYBODY. All communication must happen in this thread, unless you have already received an invite to a Discord server where you may speak as well. If you haven't, keep everything here. Should you wish to contact someone directly, it MUST be done through a whisper (see above for whispering rules and guidelines) -STAY ACTIVE. If you do go two day and night phases in a row without speaking in public, speaking in a private Discord, or sending me a night action (or specifically telling me you do not want to take a night action), I will swing the Mighty Gustav Hammer of Death. You do not want the Mighty Gustav Hammer of Death, and neither does anybody on your side. -The game starts NOW, with an extended Day 1 phase lasting until (about) 9 PM EST tomorrow. @a_Ferk @BarzalGoat @Berocka @bigAL @ContinentalCup036 @Devise @DoktorFunk @Doomsday @gorlab @jhatty8 @MMFLEX @Mike @Mr_Hatter @Nykonax @omgitshim @Rayzor_7 @Ricer13 @solas @Spartan

I'd encourage you to look at someone without a job before looking at me (seems like that's what you're doing anyway), but count me in as interested if you're looking for options outside of that field as well. I assume you know me well enough that I wouldn't really be adding much if I answered your questions, but here you go: 1) I'm definitely around quite a bit. Most nights I'm in bed by your specified degen hours but I'm certainly around quite a bit outside of that. 2) I'm pretty reachable. Don't have 2fa at the moment but have no issue with setting it up if necessary. 3) I'll be 20 in just over a month, though I hope that my contributions to discussion around the league have shown that I'm capable of acting maturely and fairly when I need to. 4) Well, let's just say that I hope I'm an exception. I'm not quite sure what about being a GM would cause me to act unfairly (if there is something, I'd be interested in hearing it), but as stated above, I personally believe that I'm able to act objectively. As far as any bonuses go, the only thing really in my favor is the fact that I've successfully built and run two pretty solid team Discords. I've only ever had to enforce rules or guidelines in there a few times, but I have done so when I deemed it to be necessary.

Great article! I like to think a vast majority of people in the VHL are nice and will treat you (and anyone else) with respect. Obviously I don't have the experience of being treated differently in these online settings, but I've heard a lot of stories from a lot of people and I'd absolutely feel weird if people started getting confrontational/scared/overly nice/mean/creepy/whatever else based on something entirely out of my control. I think this is a great topic to bring attention to and a great thing for just about anyone to read because online culture in general has needed a change for a long time. We're getting there but there's still certainly work to be done. With that said, though, this is something I didn't know before and I have a lot of respect for the fact that you're choosing to be open about it.

Sign-up list so far because I was stupid enough to not make a post up top and I don't want to edit the original and re-ping people: Target start date is Monday night. This thread will remain open throughout the weekend. We've got a bit of a smaller group so far, so feel free to reach out to anyone you think will enjoy it!

If we go by the "every season is about 2 months" standard, we should see S100 right around the start of 2025.

I'm pretty sure @JeffD still has a "Sharpe for permaban" graphic sitting around somewhere...

First off, thank you to @Banackock for all your hard work running the minors. I wasn't watching Discord last night, don't know what happened, won't comment on it, but there's no denying that you did great work for a long time down there. You were very helpful to me as a newer GM and probably played a good part in getting me where I am in the league today. But congrats to Sonnet (who I've already pinged and annoyed about this elsewhere) on the hire! One of my favorite people in this league and probably the first person here I ever got to know. You'll do great things as commissioner and I look forward to seeing them!

After the last game, I thought I'd be taking a bit of a break before running this one. But nope--I'll likely be away and with little to no time for this for a short time later on this month, so there's no time like the present to get things going. I'll start this thread off with my usual essay, though, as always, please read it through as it contains new and important information. -This will be the last game until some point next month. See above as to why. If you're on the fence about joining, jump in, because the next chance won't come up immediately after this one. -Whispers are being yeeted just as suddenly as they were introduced. I brought in my own custom form of whispering for the last game hoping we'd be able to get around the whispering meta that showed up in the EFL, before @omgitshim made this same decision to pull whispers from EFL games. I thought this over and tried to think up scenarios where I could have something that wouldn't lead to a meta emerging, but with everything that was brought up to me and with everything that I thought of, I could also think of a way to circumvent it and create a meta that nobody enjoys. Being able to talk for 12 hours rather than 45 seconds during the day already gives town a lot more power, and whispers aren't necessary to add to that. -I'm introducing a new game mode! Public voting will be back soon, but right now, we've got us an Any All game. This means that the game will begin with no role list. You will not know anything about which roles are being used; you just have to figure it out for yourself. What's the evil faction? Mafia? Coven? Mafia and Coven? Just five Serial Killers? Only way to find out is to play. -TRIVIA IS BACK! -If you won the last game, you have a 30% chance to receive any role of your choosing, should you wish to ask me. The winners of the last game are listed below: -If you didn't win the last game, you still have a chance at a role request by playing trivia! Each correct answer will get you an additional 5% chance for a maximum of 20%. If you won the last game and you play trivia, this will be added to your 30% chance for maximum odds of 50%. -If you would like to play trivia but do not want to request a role, just write "random" for the role response. -THE LINK IS HERE Finally... Rules are here The Town of Salem Wiki is here A strategy guide is here Target start date: sometime early next week, not sure when yet.

A Look at Every Trade I've Made This Season

I mean, who says it has to be political? Helping out people in need is objectively good and can be done without bringing politics into the equation. If we want to stay away from politics, then maybe don't donate to an activist group or anything...but there are plenty of places the league can put its money to make an impact on underprivileged communities without also making some sort of a statement. All in all, not sure if you'll see this, but well said @Jericho. I get that the league isn't saving any money for its own gain but I'd love to see something happen.

Vancouver getting a lot out of this but it's still surprising to see this happen.

It's the seventh day. The town is gathered as they always are in the town square, waiting to hear the Jailor's verdict. It comes out of nowhere, like a clap of thunder out of the sky--or, rather, from inside the prison walls. "TALLY HO LADS" Those who have been in this town before know exactly what that means, and the sound of the small cannon going off from inside the jail only confirms that. A quick head count this morning showed that @Alex Bridges was the one missing, and @ContinentalCup036 walks out of the prison with some news. "My fellow Town members," he says... And, with that, all of the evils are dead! CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS, THE TOWN, THE SURVIVOR, THE AMNESIAC, AND THE JESTER! Here's a link to the Dead server, for anyone who would like to hang out post-game: https://discord.gg/yHAHS9 Here's the game's spreadsheet, for all the nerds: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z-Kd_z5jLed3w9koqGfrBUs75TJBXjHT7aXLlY8OUCI/edit?usp=sharing

"Guys, I'm a Sheriff," says @diamond_ace, who I'm finally not tagging in one of these posts for no reason. "Don't worry, we believe you," says everyone, lynching him. He was... Last will: Night 6 begins now! List of those alive:

So I've done a LOT of shifting things around this season. I've had some people who like what I'm doing, and I've also had some people who don't. I actually had more than 500 words written up that just summarized every single player I have on my roster, but I was about a third of the way through when I realized that...nobody cares about that kind of thing. It's just a run down the roster and me saying "hey, this player exists, they play for me, they have [numbers off of the portal] this season and here's a bit more filler so I can claim this article for three weeks." It's cheap, it doesn't involve any actual content, and I wouldn't get any likes from anyone who I didn't ping in that article, simply because nobody cares--not even myself. I probably would have finished that up and claimed it for TPE had I actually wanted to finish it, but even I thought it was garbage and my ego is as inflated as a 14-year-old first-gen who signs up thinking we're all about to get wrecked on NHL 20. Anyway, @Renomitsu has been doing whatever he possibly can to get me to stop making graphics and do an article once in a while, so I figured I'd appease him by throwing together a list of all the trades I've made this season so far, along with a bit of opinion and musing. Hopefully this gives a bit of insight into the VHL trading process and helps people with GM aspirations on their way to realizing them. RECEIVES Jack Feriancek S72 PRG 2nd (DeFenz Mann) RECEIVES Rights to Acyd Burn Yes, this was a bit of a questionable move. Yes, for a rights deal, I paid a ton (I believe the rights to Smitty and Gritty went to Prague for a 3rd or something). Hedge actually asked me, after I made the offer, if I was aiming to compete, and I gave him a "not sure," which, at the time, I was pretty sure was the correct answer. I realized pretty soon after the fact that the only real way to attract a high-profile free agent like this was to make a run at competing, and that more or less set off just about everything else you're about to see below. Back to the actual trade, though--I was aiming to get Feriancek off of my roster because of concerns with roster space and ice time (both his and that of other players) after the draft hit, so at the time I really just looked at this as a 2nd for signing rights (though Feriancek was immediately flipped for a pair of 3rds, so I could have been smarter). In the end, all's well that ends well, and we got a signing. Outcome: I overpaid, but at least it worked out. RECEIVES S73 DAV 1st Andrej Petrovic Chico Smeb RECEIVES Jerry Garcia S73 RIG 2nd S73 SEA 3rd I was looking to make a major buy after Acyd said he'd sign with Davos, and this was my first move. I had asked another GM about the possibility of buying another top, aging defenseman (who shall remain nameless) prior to making this trade, and received a price that was much greater than this. So, working out this deal was great for me--I got to clear out a bit of roster space and even got some draft assets in return, and it doesn't exactly hurt that Garcia is my player and I could do what I wanted with him--in this case, switch him to forward and reroll to a scoring build. Outcome: pretty solid. RECEIVES S72 TOR 1st (Gino DiGiannantonio) S73 RIG 2nd RECEIVES David OQuinn S72 RIG 1st (Lucas Brandt) At the time, I was pretty torn on this one. Beav was pestering me about the three picks at the top, and gave me a few offers for 1 and/or 2 that would have made even the casual observer's eyes pop had I accepted them, and I had to make it fairly clear that I wasn't planning on moving either of those. I was a bit more open to moving 4th overall, and had my eyes on a player or two who I thought would be there at 9, so when Beav started going for that pick instead, I was open to negotiation. Originally, I threw him a couple ridiculous offers which he was very right to decline, but eventually we settled upon this. I wouldn't have picked DiGiannantonio at 4th overall had I kept it, though I certainly can't fault Beav for going up to pick someone who had been maxing out before the draft, and I just wasn't positive that the players who were in the range of 4th overall were the right long-term moves for me based on position and such. OQuinn has been a solid contributor and is currently our second-highest-TPE defenseman, adding a valuable piece and a younger player immediately, while that 1st-rounder ended up being flipped later on. After Penny's banning from the league Discord, DiGiannantonio has dropped off strongly activity-wise, and I don't believe he plans on making a return to max earning. So, I'm inclined to say that this trade worked out reasonably well if it's looked at as "DiGiannantonio and a 2nd for OQuinn and a move down," but looking purely at the picks involved I'd call it just about even. Outcome: in my favor, but probably shouldn't have been. RECEIVES S72 RIG 1st (Lucas Brandt) S72 DAV 3rd (Keith Krestanovich) Vin Calia RECEIVES S72 MOS 2nd (Jer Lefebvre) S73 MOS 1st S74 MOS 2nd This one is difficult to judge because all of what was involved came in the form of picks and younger players. Calia has been great and is an undervalued prospect, and Moscow made a couple selections that (so far) are looking great. Meanwhile, Lefebvre has been coming along well, but the S74 pick is still a question mark and the S73 pick was moved in a later deal. My primary motivations for this were to clear up a bit of roster space by putting Calia on a team where he'd be able to pick up better ice time and possibly fit in more in a group with a less crowded prospect pool, as well as to shift a 1st into a later draft to give me more options if I wanted to start buying this season. Outcome: we'll see. Hard to tell now. RECEIVES S73 PRG 2nd S73 DAV 4th S74 DAV 4th RECEIVES Jerry Wang With this trade, Davos managed to pick up both of the players in VHL history to ever be named Jerry. Enough of that, though, let's get to the value assessments and such. I wasn't targeting Cole specifically, but when Beav messaged me saying he needed to clear space asking if I was interested in someone who was very interested in playing for me, I figured he'd be a solid fit with the team. As a S68 player, he'll be around for a bit to come, and is active enough to be a proven commodity as a second-liner. To be honest, I'm not sure how helpful this trade was to me, but at least this wasn't a huge trade with unproven effectiveness. Outcome: I probably lose, but at least it's not too drastic. RECEIVES S73 MOS 1st S74 DAV 3rd Derek Eriksson Michael Hall Milos Slavik RECEIVES Jet Jaguar Killy Foilen S74 MOS 3rd This trade is interesting because Victor's initial offer was more in my favor than what the trade ended up being after negotiation (some GM, right?). Roster and cap situations needed to be taken into account on my end, though, so something that began with the same backbone ended up with me giving up a bit more so I could make it work without having the cap police kick down my door. Still, though, I got the biggest star I've traded for yet in Jaguar, plus an underrated, consistent guy in Foilen. I probably ultimately won the back-and-forth with the MOS 1st, as I traded for it thinking it was a lower-first-round pick and traded it away thinking it was a higher one (which it likely will be). It seems to be a public-opinion tossup so far in the VSN trade review article, and I think that's fair to say at the moment. Moscow gets a couple fairly consistent prospects and a solid pick, and Davos gets immediate upgrades at forward. Outcome: Depends on whether or not I'm able to accomplish anything at all with Jaguar. So, overall: OTHER TEAMS RECEIVE Derek Eriksson Vin Calia Michael Hall Andrej Petrovic Jack Feriancek Chico Smeb Milos Slavik S72 TOR 1st (Gino DiGiannantonio) S72 PRG 2nd (DeFenz Mann) S72 DAV 3rd (Keith Krestanovich) S73 MOS 1st S73 DAV 1st S73 PRG 2nd S73 DAV 4th S74 DAV 4th RECEIVES Jet Jaguar Acyd Burn Jerry Garcia David OQuinn Killy Foilen Jerry Wang S72 MOS 2nd (Jer Lefebvre) S73 SEA 3rd S74 MOS 2nd S74 MOS 3rd So, hopefully, all of this put together doesn't make me look like an idiot. My brain doesn't work well enough that I'd be able to tell you whether or not it does. Anyway, that just about does it for this one. Hopefully this is more interesting than me just reading off my players' stats...and I'll see all of you whenever I'm done claiming this one! 1,578 words; good for three weeks.

For the week ending 6/7: 1. TRADING NOISES. Yesterday I moved out Derek Eriksson, Michael Hall, Milos Slavik, and a 1st-rounder for Jet Jaguar and Killy Foilen. Your thoughts? 2. How do you feel your own production will turn post-trade? Will you get better or worse? 3. So far, we've been just about average record-wise. Is this about what you expected or not? 4. I disappear and the team is handed off to you. What's the very first move you make as GM? 5. What's the best trash-talk line you've given someone on the ice? 6. Times are...not the greatest right now. What's one thing your player is doing to help the community? @Quik @Acydburn @ColeMrtz @Frank @Sonnet @McWolf @Alex Bridges @David O'Quinn @Ahma @Josh @Brrbisbrr @PadStack @gorlab @Aye my name jeff
