  1. Hunter Kylian Kyliantown, Iceland LW Pros: 1. Offense: Kylian has a knack for being at the right place at the right time, and although he is not the flashiest player on the ice, his consistency sees him leading in points for every team he has played on. Known as a quiet leader, Kylian's play speaks volumes and has often results in him wearing a letter on his chest even though he never says a word. 2. Tenacity: Once he is moving, there is nothing stopping Kylian. He is one of the hardest working players currently in Europe. His play in the offensive zone is what has brought the scouts out to see him, but it is his high energy forecheck is what keeps the scouts coming back. Hard work often pays off as Kylian has broken the SHL record for shorthanded goals in a single year with 32. 3. Potential: At only 19 years old, the sky is the limit for Hunter Kylian. Unlike many young prospects that have raw skill, the floor for Hunter is quite high as he already has VHL ready intangibles. However, the raw offensive talents are far from peaking as Kylian is still adjusting to his body and also adjusting to a more physical game. Con's 1. Independance: Kylian was raised by himself on a remote Icelandic Iceberg that he founded himself. Kylian taught himself how to survive after his family was eaten by polar bears, but because of his lack of socialization, Kylian often is seen as a lone wolf. If you aren't used to Hunter's temperament, you would assume that he didn't like you, however, after spending time with him it is easy to see that he is like that with everyone. 2. Discipline: While he does play hard, Kylian is known to play too hard and take stupid penalties. Because of his constant stick tapping and poking, Hunter is called for stick infraction regularly. You coul chalk this up to his hunger as an athlete, but if he wants to succeed, he needs to play a more disciplined game. 3. Defense: Hunter is developing into a solid all round player, but his defensive skills are still his worst attribute. He is great at working his body and using his stick to check the puck away, but his IQ in the defensive zone is lacking. Kylian is too willing to get himself out of position in hopes of creating a counter attack scoring opportunity. Because of his ability to score, this aspect of his game hasn't been a major priority of his, but now as he enters the VHL, the level of play is so high that Kylian won't even get a crack at playing if he doesn't develop his defensive IQ.

  5. The Seattle Bears govern the Pacific Northwest in the VHL as the Vancouver Canucks do so in the NHL. The cross border rivals have seen their fare share of exhibition games as both teams compete against each other in the Northwest Trail Cup at the dawn of both their respective seasons. Sadly, because of the nature of their relationship, the tumultuous relationship is strictly used as a development screening for prospective players in both leagues and a real rivalry cannot form as they both play in different leagues. In actuality, many Seattle fans drive up to Vancouver and watch the Canucks play to fulfill their NHL fix, as the NHL is the highest pedigree of hockey in North America. As of this week, rumours of a new Seattle NHL franchise have been just that, rumours. But with the introduction of Vancouver developer, Victor Coleman, to the Seattle NHL saga, the prospect of Seattle having a new NHL franchise brings back hope to those longing to see NHL action in Seattle but dread to those who bleed Burgundy and Beige. The Bears franchise lead the North American Conference in sellouts, average attendance, jersey sales, coffee absorption, toques and moustache combos, and a record setting two-stabbings per game ratio. The New Seattle franchise will create a major rift between the VHL and NHL and fan bases will be split. As a hockey fan, I would love to see a Seattle v. Vancouver hockey matchup, much like the rivalry in the MLS with respective cities. But as a VHL fan, I dread to see the strong franchise of Seattle become that of a second-tier team in a strong hockey market.
