Ottawa Lynx´ Mike McGrattan was born in Germany. He loves soccer since he could think and so he talks much about Germanys World Cup Team for 2014. The player he likes most is like him from munich. His name is Thomas Müller und he was the top scorer at the last world cup in 2010 in south africa. "I hope the attractive soccer Team Germany is playing will beat the boring game that teams like italy like to produce. In front of a big tournament the german fans are all about how bad the team is this year. But Germany ever played great at the great tournaments and i think this year we could reach the final again. I think we will play Brazil their. I hope their will be great games without any terror from the outside. I am very curious who will be the dark horse in Brazil. My bet will be Team USA with Coach Jürgen Klinsmann. He is a great motivator!"

The SHL Germany is a nice EHM-Simulation-League with 30 real good managers. Its completely played in german and the current Stanley-Cup-Champion in the 2015/2016 Season are the St. Louis Blues. Mike McGrattan is managing the Philadelphia Flyers there. The SHL Flyers are in a very hard rebuild but will hav very good picks at this years draft.

Mike McGrattan # 77 Ottawa Lynx

1st line and 2nd line are really in name only. With only 2 lines, every player gets just about the same playing time. 1st line may get a couple more minutes per game, but not a huge amount.
 
For those from the SHL, we don't use endurance here, so fatigue isn't an issue.

Mike McGrattan was very happy to be selected by the Ottawa Lynx in the VHLM Dispersal Draft. But his fans also are very poud of him and made a big party in Munich. 200 guests were invited to the McGrattans Home to watch the draft live on tv. "He had no favourite team to go to in front of the draft, but his childhood dream was to play in an canadian hockey market", his mom Simone said to reporters around the house. "Well, its a big step to leave home and go alone overseas. But its the right thing if you want to go your own way. He will grow up and mature there." The party went on and wasn´t over until three o´clock at night. "I heard they had a great party there", McGrattan stated in Ottawa," all neighbours, friends and the whole family have been there. It was my wish to went to the draft for my own. Buts very nice to have this support at home!"

The New York Americans did not go quietly into the night to end Season 37. They battled with the Seattle Bears right up until the end of the season before finally bowing out and being a point short of the playoffs. But despite this the entire American roster was happy. This was after all only the second season post a quick New York rebuild and one that saw them nearly steal a playoff spot from what was perceived to be a better team. This was the same season in which New York acquired not one, not two, but three potential franchise players in the S37 VHL Entry Draft.
 
Several of the key players on New York will still be on rookie contracts heading into S38. With Brick Wahl, Xin Xei Xao and Andrey Zadorov all on their last season of rookie contracts and recent draftee's Tom Slaughter, Jakob Linholm and Logan Laich only entering their second VHL seasons. The roster felt the effort they gave during the season was nothing but stellar, and that they were only going to get better with time. 
 
Well this off season New York could of easily sat bye and done nothing. They have a few star power players already on their roster and with their youth and the Quebec City Muete rebuilding they'd be a playoff team for sure. Instead of doing nothing however they went and acquired two major players via free agency. Wesley Kellinger who has yet to translate his hype into full on ice potential is still a player who you can count on to be a point per game or better during the season. Then despite having a goalie already in Brick Wahl they went and got Tuomas Tukio who after several days of free agency had yet to receive an offer. With the two big signings New York goes from team who can make the playoffs to team who will be expected to go deep in the playoffs, if not win it all. 
 
Ultimately team goes completely in reverse in terms of pressure. Can the Americans live up to the hype? It is in fact a lot of expectations if you think about it. 
 
The players who make up the New York roster this coming season combined to win a total of 7 awards last season. Conner Low won two as he led the league in assists and was voted as the best defender in the league. Odin Tordah led the league in points. Tom Slaughter was considered to be the top rookie. And goalie Tumoas Tukio was voted as the Most Outstanding Player, the Most Valuable Player and the Top Goalie in the league. 
 
A team loaded with the bulk of players who were considered "the best" as per awards is going to be expected to not only just go deep in the playoffs but win it all. A failure to do so could easily make some question whether this New York team has the capacity to ever win it all. Keep in mind until the Cup win in Season 32 the Americans went through a similar period of having star power award winning players and not being able to capitalize. Could we be seeing a return to an American team that boasts having some of the "best" in the league but for one reason or another not being able to meet expectations? 
 
One thing is for sure, a lot of the players on the Americans roster better quickly adjust the new expectations. Last season their was considered no real pressure and in Season 38 all the eyes and questions will be about them and their performance. 

McGrattan heading to Ottawa
 
The VHLM has a new player from Germany. Mike McGrattan was drafted by the Ottawa Lynx in the second round of the VHLM Dispersal Draft with the 16th overall pick. General Manager Jim Gow claimed the young german player after he had selected Andrew Erikson and Andrej Hasek a few picks prior.
 

 
After the draft we talked to the young winger and asked him some questions:
 
Q: Mike, you were picked by a canadian team, how important was that for you?
 
A: I grew up in Munich as a great Calgary Flames Fan. Every Canadian market is a big hockey market and because of that I am very pleased to play in a big Canadian city like Ottawa. Now I am looking to get a good start and achieve a great load of icetime. I talked a little bit with my new general manager and liked what I heard. I think we can have a good relationship and build a great future here in Ottawa.
 
Q: What do you know about the city of Ottawa?
 
A: Well, I only know that Ottawa is a very big city in eastern Canada. Within the next day I will read a book about the history of this great city and visit some historical places.
 

 
Q: What can the Lynx get as a player from you?
 
A: I think the right wing is my home. I was a winger ever since I got my first pair of skates. I like to crash the net and shoot as much as I can. Whats the Gretzky Quote? "You miss 100 percent of the shots you don´t take!". Thats what I like to follow through my experiences. I will shot the puck towards the goal as often as I can and that is my philosophy.
 
Q: Are you a one-way or two-way player?
 
A: I think I am an offensive minded two-way player if I can describe it like that. My first target is to score goals, but I know that offense wins games and defense championships. Because of that I know how important blocking shots, hitting and checking is; I have to work hard on that. I think its very difficult to be a good two-way player. I will train hard every day to reach the goal that I want to accomplish.
 

 
Q: Do you know some of your teammates yet?
 
A: To be honest, No. I dont know any of them, but I hope we will have a lot of fun together. For myself, a good locker room is very important and a locker room without traffic is very boring. On the other hand a locker room with a lot of traffic is great motivation. I hope we can have a good relationship in our locker room.
 
Q: Whats your goal with the Lynx this year?
 
A: I want the cup! Every league and every sport is about winning championships. Thats the goal and I want to stay healthy and help the team as much as I can.
