    Player Ping

    1. It was nice and uneventful.

    2. I feel good, excited to see how we perform this season.

    3. I think we made some solid moves, sometimes you have to shake things up a bit to improve the team.

    4. The future's looking bright.

    5. Keep slowly improving and contribute to our season however I can.

    6. Meatball sub without a doubt. Can't beat it.

    1. If we exclude Calgary, which team do you think will win the cup and why?

    2. What is your favourite 1st Gen Experience?

    3. Who do you think will be rookie of the year?

    4. What is your players most obscure pastime and how did they pick it up?

    5. Name one celebrity you looked up to as a child and explain why?

    6. If a Jinn gave you only one wish, what would it be?

    1. Probably Malmo, they win a lot of games.

    2. Getting scouted and drafted for the first time.

    3. Ironhide is probably the clearcut favorite to win it.

    4. Birding and bird photography, his dad got him into it as a kid.

    5. Lionel Messi, I always dreamed of being a pro soccer player.

    6. I would wish for an end to world hunger.

    1. Calgary is on a roll, how are we going to catch LA?

    2. How important is it to get the Victory Cup?

    3. Is your player a regular season guy, or do they only really perform in the playoffs?

    4. Which is the best podcast you have listened to (or if you did not, what was the best Graphic/Article you have seen)?

    5. What is your favourite pet and why?

    6. What is your favourite actor/actress and what movie convinced you of their skills?

    1. All we can really do is keep winning and put the pressure on them to keep winning as well if they want to stay ahead of us.

    2. It's not the most important thing in the world but it's certainly something good to aim for.

    3. I'm more of just a role player in general but in my career I think I've been more productive in the regular season than the playoffs.

    4. I honestly haven't explored much content of any kind.

    5. Dogs are the best pets, they are perfect in every way.

    6. I've always been a Josh Hutcherson fan, I remember really liking Bridge to Teribithia back in the day. I don't watch many movies in general though.

    1. How do you think can we catch LA and should we even try?

    2. Theme week is looming on the Horizon. What do you think will be the topic?

    3. If you were GM what move if any would you make at TDL?

    4. Who do you think will win the tank battle between Seattle and Davos and why?

    5. What is your preferred TV snack?

    6. What places you have traveled to did you enjoy the most and why?

    1. I think the best way to catch them would be to win more games, but I'm no genius.

    2. I'm very hungry right now and can only think of food so perhaps the topic will be food.

    3. I probably wouldn't do anything too aggressive but maybe that's why I'm not in charge of those decisions.

    4. Probably Davos because they score so few goals.

    5. Can't go wrong with a bag a chips, I typically go with Doritos.

    6. I have not traveled much unfortunately, the only real trip I've taken was to Florida. It was alright. Too crowded.

    1. Calgary has picked up speed after a rocky start. What do you think was elementary in the team's success so far?

    2. Elaborate in what areas your player could improve, to help the team to compete.

    3. Who do you see as our biggest rival this season in the Conference?

    4. And in the European one?

    5. Which is your favourite cuisine and why is it Italian?

    6. What sports teams outside of hockey do you follow/support?

    1. I think we had been struggling on the PP and PK earlier on so improving that probably has a lot to do with it.

    2. Stop being so angry. Whenever I look at game results I seem to have lots of roughing penalties and even had a game misconduct for "Intent to Injure"

    3. Probably LA, anyone who will be competition at the top.

    4. Moscow, they're looking strong.

    5. Nothing beats a good hamburger but I do love Italian.

    6. Tottenham Hotspur and the Green Bay Packers

    1. We are holding on to a wildcard card spot at the moment. With 6 games left do we make it?

    2. Maellard has the team lead in points but Wheeler is hot on their tail. Who finishes ahead?

    3. How come we have underperformed all season?

    4. If GM Ricer were to step down today, who would be your dream candidate to be the next GM of Calgary?

    5. What is your favourite part about the VHL?

    6. What other sim leagues are you apart of or have you tried and enjoyed?

    1. Yeah, we make it for sure.

    2. I think Maellard will probably hold onto it.

    3. We're still just in the process of figuring things out coming out of a rebuild.

    4. Leandro probably. I guess I'd love to see AJ as well if he were to make a GM comeback.

    5. Probably the convenience and ease of it, but still getting a fun experience without having to put in excessive amounts of effort.

    6. I'm not currently in any others but I used to be in SHL, a baseball one, and a short-lived sim lacrosse league.

Press Conference week ending December 3rd 2023

    1. Trade deadline is about to pass and the Wranglers have remained as is. Do you feel a move was necessary or are you okay with seeing how things play out?

    2. A big move is coming in the offseason, any guesses on what that might be?

    3. The VHL Charity drive is starting soon, what foundation would you like to see them support?

    4. What ideas do you have that would help the league raise money for charity?

    5. It’s almost December, which means it’s almost Christmas. Do you enjoy the Christmas holidays?!

    6. Which holiday is your favourite and why?

    1. I'm pretty content to just let things play out as they are.

    2. Perhaps a big free agency signing.

    3. Something that fights world hunger

    4. Maybe selling some sort of VHL merch.

    5. Yes, it's a very enjoyable time of year.

    6. Christmas because I see everyone on both sides of my family.

    1. Trade deadline is approaching, what move should Calgary be looking to make to improve?

    2. What is your Recruitment theme week idea?

    3. If the VHL contracted today, what 4 teams should be removed?

    4. VHLE or VHLM and why?

    5. What is your least favourite sport?

    6. If you could be an Olympic athlete, what sport would you want to be a part of?

    1. I don't really pay enough attention to the players on other teams to know who is good or anything like that, but I would say bringing in the good ones would be the most ideal strategy.

    2. Talk about different ways to to go about recruiting people to VHL.

    3. HC Davos, London, New York, and Moscow because I like their logos the least.

    4. Probably the VHLM, it's more fun to be in the very beginning stages of your player's career.

    5. I would say golf, it's just never had any appeal for me.

    6. Soccer for sure, I played soccer for a lot of years.

    1. Calgary has gotten off to a rocky start! Why do you think that is?

    2. The sim engine is being very weird this season. How surprising is it that Chicago is at the top of the league?

    3. Which player has surprised you the most to start the season?

    4. Leandro is Co-GMing with myself this season, how is he doing so far?

    5. What’s the longest road trip you’ve been on and where did you go?

    6. Tell me a good joke!

    1. I would say it's to be expected coming off of a rebuild.

    2. They only have one player over 571 TPE so it's pretty surprising that they're getting so much sim luck.

    3. I haven't really necessarily been surprised by anyone with what I've seen so far.

    4. I would say he is easily a top-2 GM on this team

    5. Haven't done much traveling, but it takes about 7-8 hours to drive to my grandparents' house in Minnesota.

    6. My current dating life

    2. What is your least favourite part about a VHL off-season?

    3. What has your player been up to this off-season?

    4. The team is looking to adopt a “Team Dog” for next season. What type of dog should we adopt and what should we name it?

    5. How is your favourite NHL team doing this season?

    6. What’s one move you could make to help your favourite NHL team improve?

    1. Probably the tournaments that take place

    2. Waiting around for the next season to start

    3. Traveling as much as he can and thinking about how he hopes to improve as a player

    4. We should tame a legitimate wolf from the wild and simply name it Wrangler the Wolf

    5. The Wings actually started off surprisingly hot but we'll see how long that lasts

    1. Off-season is in full swing and the Wranglers made a big trade with Riga. How do you feel about the move?

    2. Who should the Wranglers draft with 4th OA?

    3. GM Rice things rebuilding is boring. Is that fair?

    4. A bunch of new prospects have moved up to the big club, who’s going to make the biggest impact?

    5. What is your favourite dessert?

    6. What dessert is the absolute worst?

    image.png

    1. It feels exciting, it's always good to bring in a major talent.

    2. Whoever is the best available player remaining.

    3. It's definitely fair, losing a bunch gets old fast.

    4. Tuominen will probably have the biggest impact.

    5. New York style cheesecake and it's not even close

    6. I'm really not a big pie fan at all. Fruit has no place in dessert.

    1. Of the four remaining teams, which one is winning the cup?

    2. Jonny Elgar has finished his season in the VHLE and will be joining Calgary for next season. Will he make an impact as a competent back up goalie?

    3. Rumour has it, Calgary is looking to add some high end veteran pieces to the line up. Is that a wise move or should they save their assets and be more patient on the rebuild?

    4. If you could rebrand the Wranglers color scheme, what would you change it too?

    5. Which ex-Wrangler do you miss having around the team?

    6. Bungee Jumping, skydiving or neither?

    1. I'm going with the Phantoms

    2. Oh yeah, I'm sure he'll snag some wins.

    3. I think brining in a couple of vets at this point couldn't hurt anything.

    4. I'm a huge fan of the current color scheme but maybe changing the red to blue could work as well.

    5. I don't think I've been around enough to really know any ex-Wranglers.

    6. I think I would probably rather skydive than bungee jump.

Press Conference for week ending September 23rd 2023

    1. We are sitting in a nice spot and will likely grab a top 5 pick in this draft. Are you a believer in drafting best player available or positional need?

    2. Things are rather quiet in Calgary right now. A lot of inactives mixed with a few active players. What is a good way to boost activity in a locker room?

    3. Does your player shoot right or left? What type of stick are they rocking?

    4. Calgary wants to have a 50/50 night with the proceeds going towards a foundation. What foundation do you think we should support?

    5. You’ve taken a puck to the head and wake up at the hospital, having amnesia!! Over time you realize you’re horrible at hockey but are somehow amazing at another sport!?!? What sport is it?

    6. Have you ever done a race similar to a Spartan Race or ever ran for a cause? Tell me about that experience.

    1. When you have a top pick I think you have to go with the best available player.

    2. As long as there are Pokemon to catch I'll always be lingering.

    3. He shoots right. I never played hockey so I honestly don't know much about equipment or types of sticks so I'll just say he uses some kind of CCM stick.

    4. Contribute to something that promotes youth sports.

    5. I've become a master at turning left and now am a NASCAR legend.

    6. I have never ran any sort of race for a cause. As a Boy Scout I used to volunteer at local 5Ks to hand out water to other people as they ran by.

    Wrangler's Presser Week Ending September 17, 2023

    1. We are halfway-ish through the season, How are we feeling about our team's performance thus far?
    2. We are clearly aiming for the bottom of the standings this season, What are your expectations for next season?
    3. Looking at the top 5 players in the draft, who should Calgary be targeting?
    4. The trade deadline is coming up soon, should Calgary be active and what should they be doing?
    5. Do you own any pets? What kind? How many? Names?
    6. Summer has come to and end! What season is your favorite? Why?

    1. I think things have pretty much been going as expected for Calgary this season.

    2. I wouldn't expect too much of a significant improvement for next year, a rebuild doesn't happen automatically.

    3. I would imagine you have to target Janser.

    4. Calgary doesn't necessarily need to be too active, but if opportunities are there to gain more draft picks that wouldn't be a bad thing.

    5. I don't currently have pets. I live in an apartment and refuse to pay a monthly fee just to have a pet.

    6. Fall is the best season and it's not even close. Hoodie/flannel weather, hunting, football, Thanksgiving, it's the elite season.

    2. Has your player met your expectations so far?

    3. Who do you think will be our biggest rival this season?

    4. Who do you think has been the teams MVP so far?

    5. What’s your favorite fast food chain?

    6. What VHL team do you think has the coolest logo?

    1. I'd say so, yes. We've lost a few more games than I expected but we're still on top.

    2. Yeah, he's been doing pretty well! Leading the league in plus/minus and one of the top scoring defenseman as well.

    3. Probably Cologne, they'll likely be our biggest competition.

    4. Braeden Panarella has been piling up the points.

    5. Gonna have to go with Culver's

    6. I really like Malmo's logo

    1. The season is only a few days away! Which wrangler will have the hottest start?

    2. What team do you think is going to be our biggest rival this season?

    3. VERY EARLY/before season prediction. Who do you think is going to take home the championship this year?

    4. What kind of style does your player play? I.E; Playmaker, Sniper, Goon (Fradin) etc..

    5. If you could change one rule about hockey, what would it be?

    6. Everyone's got to have some sort of pre-game routine, what's yours?

    1. Do prospects count? I anticipate a fast start for myself in the E, I'm playing big minutes on a very solid roster.

    2. Considering the rebuild and how the season is projected to go, Calgary probably won't be all that competetive so the biggest rival will probably just be whoever else is fighting at the bottom of the standings.

    3. I'm going to go with Seattle.

    4. I'd say my player is a good two-way defenseman, scoring a decent amount and throwing the body around as well on D.

    5. I don't necessarily think it would improve the game but I'd change offsides to soccer rules instead of having to watch the blueline just to see what happens.

CGY Presser Week Ending August 20th 2023

    1. Our GM has made some solid moves and signings over the off-season. How do you feel our GM has done this off season? Anything you would’ve done?

    2. What are you most excited about for this upcoming season and hoping to achieve?

    3. Were there any areas you wanted to improve over this off season? If so, what was it and what did you do to improve it?

    4. What is your prediction for Calgary this season? Where do you see us placing and how we’ll do?

    5. Summer is coming to an end!! Did you do anything exciting over the summer in the real world?

    6. If you could go anywhere in the world for a week, where would you go? Why there?

    1. Committing to a rebuild can be a difficult thing to do so I think he has shown an important ability that he has to make tough decisions.

    2. I'm excited to see how my player performs in the E and I'm hoping to see Vasteras make a run for the championship.

    3. I was excited to leave the M this off season and be able to apply all of the TPE I've been banking. I've been focusing mostly on increasing my Defense rating.

    4. With the rebuild in effect, Calgary will probably hang around the bottom of the standings but I'm sure it will be fun for younger players to get ice time.

    5. I had a pretty tame summer. I pretty much just worked a lot.

    6. There are plenty of places in the world I'd like to go to see and photograph different kinds of birds, but in particular I'd like to go to New Zealand.

    2. Leandro was traded to Seattle, thoughts on that deal?

    3. A few more names are rumoured to be on the move, who’s next?!

    4. Rookies are taking over the team for S90, with SOME veteran presence. Who’s going to have a breakout rookie season?

    5. Have you ever flown in a plane? If not, would you? Any scary flying moments?

    6. Who should the Wranglers select with their recently acquired S90 8th OA pick?

    1. Haven't been around long but I know VLG was a big part of the team. It's a tough move but I'm sure it will pay off going forward.

    2. Again a tough move but the return should pay off.

    3. I try to ignore rumors, no need to stress over potentially nothing.

    4. Fradin McGryer will have a breakout season.

    5. I have flown in a float plane once and commercially only once as well. Nothing scary ever happened but it did make me nervous.

    6. I won't even pretend like I know who's available in upcoming drafts, but you drafted me so you obviously know what you're doing!

    2. Of the four teams remaining, who would you like to see win the cup?

    3. Daniel Janser has retired. First ballot hall of famer?!?

    4. Which prospect in the Wranglers system has the brightest future?

    5. What’s scarier, being in a plane crash but surviving or being stranded in the middle of the ocean for 2 weeks before being found?!

    6. Cats or dogs? Why?

    1. I will blindly follow Ricer until the end of time.

    2. I suppose probably the Wolves, because I like wolves.

    3. I don't know the first thing about him but I'm going to go ahead and say absolutely, yes.

    HOUSTON BULLS PRESSER!

Hello and welcome fellow Bulls to this weeks presser!  This is my last presser as the AGM of the Houston Bulls.  I love you all!

Answer three questions for 1 capped TPE or all six for 2 capped TPE!
For the Week Ending July 30th, here are your questions!

    1.  What a crazy season! Most stacked team I've ever seen. It didn't end the way any of us wanted it to but we had fun! How do you feel about the season and your players' performance?

    2.  We are currently sitting at 200 goals for as a team!  What will we end the regular season with? Are you gonna keep in touch with your teammates or say your goodbyes and move on?

    3.  In your estimate, what do you think caused us an early exit from the playoffs?

    4.  Do you think a VHL player should have a cup win to be a HoF candidate?

    5.  Who on the team are you most excited to play with or against in the future?

    6.  AJ is stepping down as GM in Houston and subsequently, I am stepping down as AGM.  Give me some parting words for AJ!

Thank you to everyone who participate in these pressers!  I always appreciated reading your answers!

    Let's Go Bulls!

    1. The season was fun, even if the playoffs didn't go as planned. I thought my player had an alright season, but not quite what I was hoping for. It was cool to finish Top 4 in hits, but I wasn't expecting to see a decrease in points from the first season.

    2. I'm not leaving the locker room so I'll still be around.

    3. It can only be explained by bad luck, Simon was just not in our favor.

    4. I don't necessarily think it is a requirement, but there's no denying that it helps. Typically great players win trophies.

    5. I hope to play with Simon's Worst Nightmare again, he clearly lives up to the name.

    6. After being away from sim leagues for so long, you and AJ were exactly the type of management I needed to get excited about it again. Thanks for two fun seasons!

  21. A second season for Joe Block and the Houston Bulls has come to an end with an early playoff exit, bringing an abrupt end to a largely modest VHLM career for the young defenseman. As a rookie in S88, Block was able to make his presence felt on both ends of the ice while not dominating on either end. Offensively, he managed to pot 13 goals and provide 38 assists for a total of 51 points in the regular season. 7 of these goals came on the power play and he scored the game-winning goal on 3 occasions. On defense, Block made 147 hits and blocked 120 shots. In his second season, Block shifted gears and brought a more physical side of his game to the table. He again remained threatening on the offensive side of things with 11 goals and 33 assists. His 44 points were a bit of a decrease from his rookie season despite an increase in shots taken from 114 to 162. It was on defense, however, where a slightly more drastic change to his game was noticed. Block's newfound physicality allowed him to begin making a name for himself as he finished the season with the fourth most hits in the league. With a total of 204 hits, he joined teammates Grunkle Stan-dingyouup and Martin Kemp in the top 10 for hits while keeping his discipline in check and only spending 84 minutes in the penalty box (only an increase of 8 PIM from S88). In the playoffs, Houston were eliminated after just 5 games in a season when they were favored by many to make a deep run for the championship. In those 5 games, Block had a +2 rating while mustering up 3 points on offense. Riding the wave of momentum from the regular season, he kept up the aggression in the playoffs with 12 hits and 17 penalty minutes. The discipline he showed throughout the season lapsed early in the playoffs as he took a major game misconduct penalty for spearing. The early exit has left him hungry for more as he moves on in his career.

Despite the overall lack of success that Block managed to achieve in the VHLM, hopes are high that he will continue to develop into a standout defenseman going froward. Next, he heads to Sweden where he will spend the next chapter of his career playing for the Vasteras Iron Eagles. While Block will hope to find team success and continue chasing a first trophy in Vasteras, this chapter will be about developing and preparing for his future in the VHL. Joe was taken 18th overall in the S89 VHL Entry Draft and will move on from Vasteras to the Calgary Wranglers. Representatives from the Wranglers involved in Block's development say he hopes to grow on both sides of the ice, with the goal of becoming more threatening in the offensive attack. He has expressed a desire to score more points and believes he can do so without compromising his defensive game, hoping to grow into a solid two-way player as time goes on.

    4. I see no reason why he won't score a hattrick in every game to close the season out.

    1.  We made a trade!  Harjen Van Araken and Jason Lajeunesse Jr for Walter Fitzroy Jr.  Do you think we made a good move?

    2.  Our roster is now set for the rest of the season!  What do you think?

    3.  What did you think of theme week this season?  Commissioner for a Day!

    4.  Walter Fitzroy Jr is new to the LR, what shenanigans does your player warn him about?

    5.  Does your player prefer a hard-nosed coach or a more relaxed coach?

    6.  What is something you consider yourself bad at that is kind of important?

Thank you to everyone who participate in these pressers!  I always appreciated reading your answers!

    1. Yes, I think adding another strong defender was a solid move.

    2. It seems like we are set up for success, probably about as strong of a roster as you can get in the M.

    3. I think it was a cool idea, but I ended up not being able to come up with an idea for it before my laziness got the best of me and I claimed that sweet sweet welfare.

    4. All I can say is I hope you like doinks.

    5. There needs to be a good combination of both to be fully effective.

    6. Interacting with other humans. Doing basic adult things. Existing, basically.

For the Week Ending July 9th, here are your questions!

    1.  We are fighting for top spot in the West, do we take it by the end of the regular season?

    2.  For game day, does your player come to the rink looking fly?

    3.  As soon as your player gets that VHL cheddar, what is their first purchase?

    4.  Do you prefer being on a team of mostly recreates or of first gens?

    5. As a waiver player, why did you choose to join the teams you chose?  For past players too if you got em!

    6.  What is the worst movie you have ever seen in theatre?

Thank you to everyone who participate in these pressers!  I always appreciated reading your answers!

    Let's Go Bulls!

    1. I believe we do, yes. The TPE will keep climbing and we'll get over the hump soon and destroy everyone.

    2. No, he's never been into fashion. Clothes are clothes.

    3. Probably a new vehicle of some kind.

    4. I don't typically pay attention to whether people are recreates or first-gen. Ideally there should be a good mixture of both.

    5. When I first created my player I chose Philly because I had a won a championship with them back in S66.

    6. Eternals. I don't like Marvel movies in general, but I especially remember disliking that one.
