  3. Don Brennan, Ottawa Sun Low plays his best hockey of the season against Wild After playing seventy-one games in season thirty-four with the Saskatoon Wild, soft spoken defenseman Conner Low was expecting to be back in the bridge city for this season. Low was a wavier pick up at the beginning of last season which made him draft eligible in the season thirty-five VHLM Dispersal draft. With Saskatoon having three picks in the draft, Low was more than expecting to be back with the Wild after being one of two active players in such a dismal season in season thirty-four. Low was so sure he'd be back he even kept his apartment in Saskatoon during the off-season. Low was then FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY by Wild General Manager Jack Sixten with his first two picks in the draft and Low eventually would fall to fifth before being selected by Ottawa. The usually very quiet Low was very vocal during his return trip to the Wild practice facility when he went to pick up his remaining stuff in Saskatoon. In hindsight Low couldn’t be happier with Sixten’s choice as he will be suiting up for the Founders cup in the next few days while Saskatoon will be coming together to clean out their lockers in the next few days.
  4. Lynx looking to finish on a great season When the season began for the Ottawa Lynx of the VHLM, odds makers in Vegas had them as the 2-1 favorites to take home the Founders Cup come seasons end. The Lynx didn’t disappoint during the regular season losing just twelve games over the course of the seventy-two game season. General Manager Jim Gow assembled one of the best VHLM rosters many have seen for a number of seasons now it’s up to the players on the roster to finish the task at hand. We’ll take a look at the current roster that will only be together for a few more games and how they progressed throughout the VHLMs regular season. Mike Szatkowski Jr. (60 Wins, .908 save%, 2.16 G.A.A, 7 shutouts) Szatkowski had a good season after a slow start back-stopping the powerhouse Lynx in season thirty-five. With only one defenseman over 100 TPE on the roster, Szatkowski wasn’t behind the best defensive unit in the league but with such an offensive roster Szatkowski faced a league low 1704 shots throughout the season. Szatkowski was one of four goalies to have above a .900 save percentage and one of only two tenders that save a goal against average below 2.50. If the Lynx go onto win a championship this season, Szatkowski name will go down in history as one of the best goalies to suit up for the Ottawa franchise. Jeevan Samuelsson (74 goals, 96 assists, +108) Samuelsson came to the Lynx after a trade just sixteen games into the season and he didn’t disappoint after coming over from the Yukon Rush. In just fifty-five games with the Lynx this season Samuelsson put up amazing numbers with fifty-seven goals and seventy-two assists. Combined with his sixteen games he played for the Rush, Samuelsson put up 170 points which led the entire league, but surprisingly enough his seventy-four goals and ninety-six assists wasn’t good enough to led the league in goals and assists. A Sakic trophy will most likely be the next notch that Samuelsson will add to his belt at seasons end, but were sure a Founder Cup would be much higher on his list this year. Robin Gow (48 goals, 97 assists, +107) In his first season in the VHLM, Robin Gow had a great season offensively for the Lynx, quickly becoming a fan favorite almost overnight in Ottawa. Gow was third on the Lynx roster with forty-eight goals and led the Lynx and the entire VHLM with ninety-seven assists. The son of former VHL defenseman Jim Gow, Robin has the pedigree produce much like this each and every season going forward. Robin made the most of what will be his only season in the VHLM as he is expected to be a high draft choice heading into the season thirty-six VHL Entry draft. Brennan McQueen (49 goals, 35 assists, +42) The often frustrated power forward was very vocal about the displeasure of his offensive production early on in the season. Forty-nine goals were good enough for second on the Lynx roster and tenth for the entire VHLM. Although McQueen won’t admit it he was a huge cog in the Lynx machine, whether it is with a game changing hit and a huge goal that put the Lynx ahead. The Captain of the Lynx hit anything that moved on the ice leading the league with an amazing 410 hits. When McQueen was traded from the Bears to the Reign at the trade deadline it seemed to light a fire under the young forward and it has continued into the team’s playoff match-up against the Saskatoon Wild. RG3 (8 goals, 13 assists, +31) Unfortunately there was one dark spot on the Lynx roster this season and that dark spot would have been the play of Robert Gow lll. Only two players on the Lynx roster put up fewer points in seventy-two games then RG3 did and those two players haven’t been seen at practice for a few seasons now. Hopefully once the season ends RG3 will become more invested in his hockey career and will take off next year in his second full season in the VHLM.
