  2. New York looking forward to not finishing last The New York Americans finished in last place in the North American Conference last season with only nine wins, but this year things are looking up for The Big Apple team, they might even reach double digits in wins this season. The roster will include recent pick-ups including third overall pick Xin Xie Xiao, Simon Tremblay and Keiji Toriyama. Those players along with first year’s goalie Brick Wahl and first year defenseman Conner Low start the second year of the re-build as the players taking the franchise forward at the current moment. Calgary recently seen most of their roster retire or look towards free agency after the playoffs ended which end up meaning they will find themselves in the basement come next year in the North American Conference. New York has three first round draft choices next season, but only time will tell during the season if they will hold those picks come draft time next season.
  3. Big three Mike Szatkowski announcing Robin Gow second overall Earlier this evening the Season thirty-six Victory Hockey League Entry Draft was held with Riga and New York holding a combined seven of the ten draft choices available in the first round alone. We’ll take a look at the some of the first round and how it shaped out after the five different General Managers stepped up to the podium to announce their future superstars. 1st Overall: Godavari Yumalatopinto (Seattle Bears) The defensemen hailing from Delhi, India comes to the Bears via the Oslo Storm last season, where he put up decent numbers in his first and likely only VHLM season. In his seventy-two games with the Storm this past season Yumalatopinto put up thirty-four goals and seventy-seven assists in the regular season. The Storm headed into the playoffs as the underdogs against the Vasteras club but surprised the J-20 club upsetting them in five games to head into the Founders Cup match-up against powerhouse Ottawa. Oslo would eventually fall at the hands of the Lynx in four straight games but Yumalatopinto made enough of an impression during his teams nine game playoffs run to spark interest for the Bears to pick him with the first overall selection. Yumalatopinto should be a cornerstone defenseman for the Bears for many seasons ad there already strong defense got even stronger. 2nd Overall: Robin Gow (Riga Reign) The son of Jim Gow came into the VHLM season after declaring himself eligible just a few days before the start of the draft, the Ottawa Lynx couldn’t have done better with their choice of drafting Robin 4th overall. Robin led the entire VHLM in assists and was second on the Lynx roster in points behind VHLM journeyman Jeevan Samuelsson. Gow has been a powerhouse with his practice routine as of late getting in ample workouts on and off the ice leading up to the draft this evening, getting in well above 200 practice hours before the draft even started. The Reign are just few seasons into their rebuild and General Manager Mike Szatkowski might have went a bit of what many people believed to be the big two but he might have just found himself a future superstar. 3rd Overall: Xin Xei Xao (New York Americans) After the Regina selected Robin Gow with their first choice in the draft the Americans found themselves with a very difficult decision. The team found themselves trying to decide between two very similar forwards in Damon Tyrael and Xin Xei Xao. Xao was the management’s decision when they sent a representative to the podium to announce the third overall draft choice in this yeas draft. Xao was chosen because of his pure offensive skills he showed during his season with the Saskatoon Wild of the VHLM. Xao had eighty-six goals and 128 points during his seventy-two games during the regular season with the Wild, but it was his playoff performance that really showed his true superstar potential the young forward possesses. Xao had twenty-two goals and thirty-three points in ten games for the Wild before they were ousted by the Lynx in the North American Conference finals. The Americans might not have expected to see Xao land in their lap when the draft lottery took place a few weeks ago, but management and current American roster players couldn’t be happier with the addition of Xao to the club’s re-build.
