  1. Michael Johnson is ready to push for a starting spot this season on the Halifax 21st. Reports out of his camp have been suggesting that he’s been meeting with goalie coach, Ian Clark, in regards of the new season. When speaking to him, he didn’t budge on the fact that his focus is on getting as many W’s this season.

    Quote

“I’m just trying to help the team as much as I can. The Halifax 21st are my #1 priority this season and I’m just looking to push this team for a cup. We have a great core here, and I think we could definitely surprise a few. My goal this season is to fight for some wins.”

Sounds like he’s very focused for a long season ahead with the Halifax 21st and intends to do his part. He also added the increased focus his team has put on him since joining the VHLM.

    Quote

“The guys around the locker room have been focused and incredibly motivating. We’re all hungry for some silverware this season. I’m just glad to be surrounded by such a great set of guys.”

Can you expand on this a little? What's he like in the locker room? Has he failed as a leader at any point?

Overall a very good report, my only criticism is to chunk it out a little and add some details that give character depth.

Hmm I appreciate it, I'll definitely add some details there to build some more character.

Edit: Just made some changes. Let me know what you think :)

  3. Name: Michael Johnson

    Age: 18

    Height: 6'3"

    Weight: 210 lbs

    Position: Goalie

    Birthplace: Vancouver, Canada

This big goalie from the west coast in Canada has big dreams and aspirations for his hockey career. His incredibly disciplined  attitude has got an inspiring reaction from his previous teammates. He’s still young so indeed he does make mistakes, but he intends to work on his weaknesses so he never makes the same mistake.

    Pros:

Rebound Control: Early in his career, Michael Johnson is a hybrid goalkeeper that swallows up every shot he can. His awareness for certain situations has helped him direct shots to the corners. Michael has learned in his past from his high school team that he could not rely on his teams  defence alone, so he has made his number 1 priority as a goalie to make sure he doesn’t put his team in an awkward position by letting a silly rebound out.

Reaction Timing: Along with rebounds, Johnson has realized that in order to control his rebounds he must make sure he works on his reaction time. He is most noticed for his reactions to game changing saves and is allotted for his eye popping save most games. This can sometimes backfire but with how far along he is with this training and skill, he’ll be a master at no time.

Hand Speed: Johnson also contains elite hand speed. Tie that in with his reactions and rebound control and he’s got a very tidy glove save. He has this unbelievable confidence in his glove hand although this can be a negative at times. His glove has been compared to the greats when they have been at his age. His stick in the crease is quite good as well, although behind the net he does not look too comfortable. His stick on the other hand is average at best. For this level, his glove hand will be a total surprise!

    Cons:

Skating: Johnson has shown that he must work on his skating in order to succeed at this level. He makes bad decisions to go behind the net to retrieve the puck coupled with the fact that he’s not fast on his feet can really handicap his team. He most definitely needs to work on this in order to get to the next level.

Leadership: Johnson struggles with his leadership skills. In the past, he's been known for belittling his teammates commitment as he felt he always put his all. Sometimes in practice he's been known for getting into a some shoving matches with certain teammates. Overall, if he is to be an asset this season, Michael is going to have to learn to not be a locker room distraction. His ability to organize his defence as well as motivate his team is something he’s going to need in the future. There leaves a lot of room to be desired here as this can be considered not acceptable by certain GM's in higher levels.

Insecurity: Johnson has been known to sometimes question himself and the progress he has made. He’s been known to need validation that he’s been doing the right thing day in day out. Coupled this with Leadership, his insecurity has lead him to believe that sometimes he’s just not going to be good enough. If he can work on his insecurity problems and focus on being a confident player, we really could have an amazing goalkeeper on our hands.

The Michael Johnson project has just begun but there is tonnes of potential and upside. His work ethic is incredibly strong. Letting him be the backup in this upcoming season would be beneficial for himself as he needs to earn his place within the team by growing as a person as well as goalie. This season he is signed to the Halifax 21st and should surprise a few!

Ive never seen a side get so dominated at home, yet still win 3-0.

Messi was and is the best player ever. Liverpool even did a good job defending him - but "good" won't stop Messi.

That free kick was incredible. Messi has made me drop my jaw on so many occasions but today.... Unreal.

  5. 1. What is it like being part of Halifax this season?

So far it's been great! I just joined and everyone in the locker room has been a big help in getting me adjusted for this new season.

    2. The captains vote is currently on and besides yourself who is your top choice for captain?

Gaudette or Nacho for sure. They seem like great leaders on and off the ice.

    3. With the season opener about a week away, how much TPE do you preferably want to have by that point?

Um, I'm unsure how much I can get within the week but I'd like to get as much as possible.

    4. What are your goals for this season, in terms of both individual and team performance?

I'm hoping this year, under sheltered minutes I can adjust here. Team wise I hope we go for it all, of course! I'd like to give Halifax a cup.

    5. What are your thoughts on Halifax's Discord locker-room? Any suggestions on how we could improve it?

The discord is awesome. It's a fantastic space to make new buds and just chill out with the gang. Since I'm brand new, I have no thoughts so far on how to improve.

    6. What are your overall thoughts on the team and roster that we have here? Where do you think we'll finish in the standings?

I think we're a little light on D.  With the group we have, I wouldnt be surprised if we went high in the standings.

Hey @fonziGG! Halifax 21st GM here! We're coming off back to back Founder's Cup finals appearances and we're looking to go for it again this season. I can offer you my backup position for sure, but our other goalie is around the same place you are in terms of TPE, so it isn't out of the question that you become the starter if you put in the work. Even if you stay backup, I will make sure that you get plenty of time in the crease. We have a whole bunch of new, active members, loaded into a team Discord server, all of whom would be happy to help you out with getting to know your way around the site. We're a fourth year expansion team, who has had nothing but success in a league that is generally hard to win in for back to back seasons. The only thing we have yet to do is capture our first cup! You could help us there. You would really improve our team and I'd love to have you along.

The team also will be participating in some extracurricular activities, including a captains vote in the next few days. But if I had to pick three things that this team is good at doing it would be winning, helping each other out wherever we can, and most importantly having fun! So what do you say? Want to be a member of the 21st? To accept this offer just quote the post and say "accepted", although whether you choose us or not, I wish you the best of luck in your career! ?
