  1. OO7 Gets A Shot Warm sunlight was just peeking through the curtains when Dukla Trencin winger, Ondrej Ohradka, woke up. He slid out of bed, adrenaline already pushing out the nighttime haze. He plopped down at his desk and woke up his laptop, the blue glare illuminating his spreading grin. While he was sleeping, his life may have changed. While he was dreaming, his dreams may have come true. The VHLM had held it’s S67 draft that night (due to Slovakia’s time zone) and while he was late to declare himself eligible for the draft, he knew he had the skills to compete. He quickly clicked a browser open to check the draft tracker. He scrolled down. And down. 3rd round. 4th round. 5th round. 6th round. His eyes widened and he sprung up when he saw himself picked in the 7th round at #68 by the Minnesota Storm. He flailed his fists in the air and hopped around but kept from yelling so as not to wake the rest of his family. Instead, he quickly dressed, grabbed a glass of orange juice and went for a run in the pleasantly cool Trencin morning. Barely anyone was in the streets to hear his whoops of joy. After the run, he came back to his home to tell his rising family the fantastic news. A text arrived from his agent, former VHL defenseman, Gunnar-Rune Rorvik, who congratulated him and said he would make arrangements for a press conference later in the week. Ohradka called Rorvik quickly to discuss the press conference and then made plans with his friends and family for a small celebration the next day. Texts and phone calls dominated the next few hours as the Ohradka household buzzed with activity. Ondrej also received a phone call from the Minnesota Storm welcoming him to the organization and making arrangements to have him fly to America to begin training camp. That night, family members, friends, teammates and Dukla Trencin employees came over to their house to celebrate the talented winger being drafted. There was food, drink, karaoke, dancing and many Slovakian flags. The party-goers also used the time to say goodbye to their friend. Two days later, Ohradka held a press conference in the home of HK Dukla Trencin, the Pavol Demitra Ice Hockey Stadium overlooking the Kockovsky Canal. To start, the young winger read from a prepared statement: "Thank you all for coming this afternoon. I have an announcement to make. Earlier this week in the VHLM draft, I was chosen by the Minnesota Storm in the 7th round, 68th overall. I chose to declare as eligible for this draft at the encouragement of my agent, Gunnar-Rune Rorvik, as he played in that league and suggested it would be a great step in my development as a professional hockey player. I appreciate everyone's support for my hockey career the last few years. I would like to thank my family for their sacrifice and my teammates and coaches with Dukla Trencin for helping me get to this point and all the fans who have cheered me on in this arena. I would also I like to think the Minnesota Storm organization for drafting me and believing in me and I look forward to growing as a player and helping the team win. My career with Dukla Trencin is not over hopefully, but just on hold, as I hope to return to play here again some day. Thank you again, I will now take any questions." After an hour long question period, the press conference concluded and Ondrej Ohradka left to go pack. This is the first step in the young man's career aspirations. One scout said this could be a steal for Minnesota. Time will tell if Ohradka's and Minnesota's dreams will come true.
  2. ONDREJ OHRADKA, "OO7" Name: Ondrej Ohradka Position: Left Wing Height: 6’ 1” Weight: 207 lbs Shoots: Right DOB: November 29, 2001 Birthplace: Trencin, Slovakia Youth Team: HK Dukla Trencin U20 Drafted: S67 VHML Round 7 #68 by Minnesota Storm From the hockey-mad city of Trencin and the team that developed such Slovakian greats such as Zigmund Palffy, Marian Hossa and Marian Gaborik, comes the next scoring phenom to tantalize hockey fans worldwide! There’s a lot to like about the 6’ 1”, 207-lb winger that dominated the Slovak Extraliga the past two seasons as a teenager. He registered 90 points in 83 games over two seasons with HK Dukla Trencin. Dubbed “OO7” or the “Man with the Golden Gun” due to his sniping ability, Ohradka lead the team with 60 points in 50 games this year, pacing Trencin in goals with 30 and ranking 2nd in assists and penalty minutes. While still a bit of a raw talent, Ohradka is an extremely skilled winger with fantastic offensive instincts. He is a shifty skater, he stickhandles well and sees the ice at an elite level. His elite wrist shot is second to none and he plays the game with great poise. While being a driver of whatever line he plays on, he is also responsible defensively and uses his speed to position himself to negate the opposition’s chances. What scouts are saying: “He’s a strong, driven skater. Good luck getting the puck off him. You love his competitive edge, too. Good speed. Nice to see he plays both sides of the ice.” "He’s got all the tools and had a better draft season than Gaborik or Hossa. He’s got Hossa’s two-way game, Tatar’s shiftiness, with a sprinkle of Ovechkin’s passion and fire. Fantastic combo to start a career with.” Strengths: Wrist shot: Ohradka torched goalies to the tune of 30 goals in 52 games this season and his primary weapon was a dazzling wrist shot that has been described as heavy yet quik and sneaky. Even after two years, Extraliga goalies have had a hard time getting a read on his shot. Two-way play: Ohradka is a special teams specialist. He has been a mainstay on Dukla Trencin’s power play and also sees considerable time killing penalties, something rare for a player of his age. Due to his skating and shooting ability, he is a shorthanded threat every time he’s on the ice. Physical play: One thing that has impressed scouts the most is his lack of fear and his willingness to engage in the physical side of the game. He hits with abandon, goes in the corners, participates in scrums and even got into a fight this year. He has no trouble going up against larger defensemen, often skating right through them. Weaknesses: Hand-Eye: While he displays deft puck handling skills, if there is one area scouts would like to see improvement in it is his hand-eye coordination. He is never used as a net presence on the power play partially due to the effectiveness of his shot from the wall but also because he is terrible at deflections. Also, even though he’s not a center, as a penalty-killing forward, his faceoffs need work. Durability: Before playing almost a full slate of games for HK Dukla Trencin this past season, Ohradka dealt with shoulder injuries each of the two prior seasons that caused him to miss at least 40 games over that span as well as the 2017 World Junior Championships. His performance this season seemed to prove that the shoulder is back to 100%, but a few scouts have mentioned seeing him favor the left shoulder after games toward the end of the season. Recklessness: Without a doubt, scouts love Ohradka’s physical side, but he can take it too far on occasion. One scout said, “He has a bit of a “bull in a china shop” mentality. He plays on the edge often, he has a short fuse and he needs to control himself better, especially since he’s an offensive player. His team needs him on the ice not in the penalty box.” After being drafted this week by the Minnesota Storm, #68 overall, Ondrej Ohradka is looking forward to coming to North America and the VHLM to make his mark as the next Slovakian sniper.

    MIN/LVA: S67

The trade that brought Ondrej Ohradka to Minnesota in the 7th round, 68th overall!
  4. So what happens if we just miss getting drafted? Sign as an FA?
  5. @QuikSo, if I just created a new player in the VHL and SBA can I claim anything? I've been inactive from the VHL for a while... Thanks.
  6. Gold: World Silver: Canada Bronze: USA
  7. @Green Thanks for the info but could you explain it in more detail? Not sure I understand entirely ( I get the 10 TPE upon reaching 100). Thanks. We didn't use money when I last played. ?
  8. @Banackock If I haven't played a game yet can I claim minimum?
  9. Thanks for the welcome, all of you! Glad to be back. I'm also trying my hand at the SBA so that will be different. @Victor You are absolutely correct! That's a crazy memory. It was Gunnar-Rune and everyone would mess it up (Rune-Rorvik) ? Lol. Anyway, I did come back - better late then never, right?
  10. Player Information Username: animal74 Player Name: Ondrej Ohradka Recruited From: Other (Played from S6 to S12) Age: 17 Position: LW Height: 73 in. Weight: 207 lbs. Birthplace: Slovakia Player Page @VHLM GM
  11. @Beketov As per my other mention of you, we won in S12. I was drafted in S7 and retired after S12. This link shows I had 102 TPE at the time of Rorvik's drafting. ? But I can start with the 30 TPE to start. Have to create my player first!
  12. I think we may have won together. I remember you for sure.
  13. Auto-intro thread. Nice touch! I was in the VHL over 11 years ago back in Season 8(?) I think (June 2008 I started). My player was defenceman, Gunnar-Rune Rorvik, the Norwegian Nightmare. I played for Seattle and won VHLM championship, World Cup, and in my last season, the VHL championship. Was also a Media Grader for a while. It's a long shot, but any chance I can get some carry-over TPE? I think I have some stats on Rorvik somewhere. Anyway, not sure what type of player I want to create. I have four kids but I'd like to get back into a sim league. Like what you've done with the place! Cheers, Danny
