Unfortunately I have decided to leave the VHL due to some lifestyle changes I’ve been making, and how my new schedule goes. This is one of the tougher decisions I’ve made in life that’s for sure. While there’d be way to many people to tag during my fair well, you all know who you are, whether we just had a 5 minute chat on discord, or spent nearly a year together on the same team. Thank you all for your kindness and being a part of this wonderful league. Sure I could continue with my goalie I have just created, but I couldn’t give the full effort in activity, nor tpe. I’ve had to dedicate my time in life to things that matter the most to me. Maybe in a few years i peak my head back in for a possible new player, but for now this is what I need to do. I know many of you have seen a rapid decline in my activity and tpe earnings. I wish you all the best!!

1. I think we are right where we needed to be, finished top 5! 2. No I plan on keeping it close to what it is now. 3. Maybe slightly, but with a big depreciation hike coming for me, I’ll have plenty of options anyway! 4. I got 1 tpe out of it, so not great haha. 5. No I don’t think so, Edmonton is the last hope and I think Colorado takes it in 5-6. Gonna put money down on it if I can lol. 6. No I haven’t, too focused on nhl playoff’s.

Riga is off to an okay start, going 1-1 after 2 games at home vs Warsaw. Game 1 saw Riga take the 1-0 series lead with a 3-1 win, Telker got the first Riga assist in the game tying 1-1 goal, Riga then went on to score 2 more. Game 2 was a much different story. Warsaw burst out offensively and won 6-2. Riga kept it close at the start of the game, as it was 2-2 at one point. Warsaw then went on to score 4 unanswered in what was arguably a must win game to keep the series in reach. Though they are a slight underdog, Warsaw is a solid team that should push the series to 6 or 7, or maybe perhaps win it. Riga has the pressure now as they’d love to walk into game 5 with a 3-1 series lead. But 2-2 would make it anyones game in my opinion.

Riga have continued to truck along well, as they remain one of the top 3 teams in the league in points. We all know that Telker has had better production points wise in former seasons, but his role has allowed the rest of the team to flourish. He’s on pace for around 80 points or so this year, while some of his teammates in Riga can rack up many more points in a sheltered environment. “I’ve had a lot of fun coming into Riga and making a difference. This is exactly what I need to keep doing in order to perform well, as well as help my teammates out there too.” Telker said to the media after a 3-1 victory over Prague today. Riga could certainly carry this good play over to next season, with them not at risk loosing too much of the roster into next year. We’ll have to see how the next 20 ish games or so will go, but I hope it’s as exciting as these Nhl playoffs so far!

As we are just past the midway point in the season, Riga hold the top spot in the league. While Riga were seen by many as one of the better teams heading into this season, I don’t think anyone expected them to be at the very top of the pack at this point. It starts with a high octane offensive, with Miklavz and Johnston leading the way in points for the team with about 70 points each. Sandstrom tops the D men for points on the team with 63, and is on pace to finish right around his career high in points. Leduc and Telker are also side by side in points. While they both have less then the previous 2 forwards mentioned, they are still over a ppg, and have been playing great 2 way hockey that really helps out the defence. It’s a really nice balance overall as a team that has allowed every player to succeed in their own way. Seattle, and then especially London and Moscow, have knocking on the door very hard for top spot, as those 2 would rather face easier competition for the playoffs. The biggest question for Riga now is can they maintain this and finish at the top? Only time will tell.

It’s been a fairly crazy start to the new season, which happens to be the first year of the meta as well. Riga and Seattle find themselves atop the league, with Moscow just a point behind in 2nd place. This makes for an interesting dynamic of a three headed dragon type scenario, although London is not far behind those 3 either. The biggest surprise to me is Helsinki not being able to perform, with an on paper roster that would have people putting money down any day on them finishing at least top 5. Brendan Telker spoke to the media after after an exciting 6-5 win over Warsaw. “It was quite the hockey game, it was a big wake up call that you can’t get too comfortable.” Telker was referencing the 6-1 lead that was nearly blown with a 6-5 final of course. This should put Riga in an interesting position to possibly buy a bit sooner then they thought if they can keep this up.

The Reign have started the year 7-1-2, which is good enough for 3rd place in the league, and second in the EU. The underlying stats look even better for Riga, as they sit tied for first in goal differential, and already have 3 shutouts this year. With the usual suspects off to hot starts on the scoring chart in Miklavz, Sandstrom, Johnston etc, Telker has fallen into a bit of a slump. 6 points in 10 games wasn’t quite was he was hoping for, especially on a team with 40 goals in 10 games too. It feels a little Malmo esc from his last season, where his secondary stats still showed him doing lots in the background, but the scoring was much tougher to come by. This could be the way Telker slots into the team, taking on somewhat of a backlund role going up against top lines on a shutdown 2-3 line. Despite all of this though, it would be nice to see Telker get back to his old fashion again.

With the regular season starting tomorrow, Riga’s team is now complete as there is a clearly defined roster now. Almost a week ago now, Riga acquired D man Lemieux, and prospect D man Marino. They only gave up a couple 4ths and a prospect, which is pretty good for a decent #4 d man, and a prospect with plenty of potential. While this helped Riga get to a spot they were comfortable starting with. I’m sure they’ll empty the barn even more if the season goes well before the trade deadline. Riga’s goalie and defence situation combined may look fairly average. But their offensive group looks potent. And could easily have multiple names on the top 10 scoring lists this year. There’s a handful of teams out there looking to be in the running, with various weaknesses and strengths here and there. With this season being the first for the Meta, teams will have to experiment and adjust as they go along.

1. Passing the time with real life stuff. Plus yahoo fantasy hockey is lots of fun this time of year! 2. Yeah I tried to stay on track. I wasn’t sure how the meta would affect things, so my player is well rounded in all the categories I care about most. 3. To get into the playoffs and fight hard from there, it’s hard to know what to expect with this new kind of season! 4. I do, and yes I don’t mind it at all. 5. Matthews. Not coming from a leafs fan, and despite that would not be shocked if they go out again 1st or 2nd round. 6. I’m planning on getting out camping a few times!

After the only trade of the off-season for Riga, which saw them acquire Telker for a fairly hefty package. There’s lots more work to do that may not get done until after the season start date. Free agency has come, and while it isn’t done in theory, the vast majority of the bigger names are already gone. This leaves Riga in a tougher spot defensively, as they just have 2 D men signed for this season. Maybe they could sign a more depth piece for now. But it will likely take a trade for them to get a bigger player back that they could really use. Riga look to be one of the dark horse teams this year on paper, where a finish anywhere from top 4, to possibly fighting for a playoff spot. They certainly aren’t a clear cut out contender, but their roster isn’t bad, and they should be at least one of the top half teams in the league this season.

Beat up and then ejected? I must’ve done some marchard shenanigans

It’s been a busy off-season for Malmo, and they kicked it off by making the tough decision of shipping out Telker. They got back 2 good young players and a couple 3rd round picks. With Telker now just days into settling in with Riga, he’s excited about getting another shot at the cup on a roster with stars around him. “It’s great to get to see those guys walking in the first time and smile. You know how annoying they were to play against, but getting to play with them now will be a lot of fun.” Said Telker with a chuckle. Telker went on to say there was no hard feelings with the trade, and talks between him and the GM were clear, and felt that he had a good level of understanding. Riga has more work to do filling out a final few spots on the roster, but it should be an exciting upcoming season for the Reign!
