  1. Awfully happy that you're still here in Toronto!! Go Legion!
  2. The Cage 90's action trifecta of The Rock, Face/Off, and Con Air is legendary.
  3. I was re-watching it, I've seen it many times. Couldn't think of a sixth question, so it decided for me lol.
  4. Toronto Legion Press Conference (2 TPE for answering all six questions) 1. Jimi Jaks and Diego Machado are set to finish 1-2 in league scoring. How impressive has that duo been this season? 2. What was the worst contract given out in Free Agency on July 1st in the NHL? 3. We need 2 points to clinch the Victory Cup for the regular season. Do you believe in the Victory Cup curse, or can we be the team to break it and win both the Victory Cup and the Continental Cup? 4. Do you partake in any fireworks shows for the holidays, be it viewing or lighting them off yourself? 5. Joel Castle needs 2 wins in the final 3 games of the season to take sole possession of 2nd place in Legion regular season wins all-time. He also needs 4 wins in the playoffs to take sole possession of 1st place in Legion playoff wins all-time. Is Castle the greatest goaltender in Legion history? 6. Have you experienced the awesomeness that is the 1997 cinematic classic Face/Off?
  5. The last time that it was done was in S82, when league scoring was up significantly across the board. Back in S82 there were 31 players in the league to score over 100 points, this season we're looking at roughly 15-20. The average number of goals for per team in S82 was 263, and this season in the VHL it is going to likely finish shy of 230. That is what makes what the Legion Four have done this season so special. It's been a while since Jimi Jaks and Diego Machado hit the 100 point mark, as they now sit at 127 and 120 respectively. They were the first two Legion members to cross the barrier, but not the last. Mac Atlas crossed the mark last week, now sitting at 107 points on the season, while Bobby Bob hit the mark on the weekend and now has 104 points on the year. With three games left in the regular season, there is one more member of the Legion who has an extreme outside shot at 100, as it would take 8 points in the last 3 games for Harry Callahan to join his teammates. If this season has taught us anything, it would be that the Legion players can put up points, so it could still happen.
  6. Legion legend. It's going to be weird not having Castle in the crease next season.
  7. 13 seasons ago!! Getting close to a decade worth of teams in Toronto now as well, including the Cup winner in 91!
  8. It was a tough and trying start to the season for James MacAvoy of the Toronto Legion. 22 games into the season, he was closing in on 50 shots without a goal. It's always difficult when the chances are coming, but the puck just won't go into the net. The biscuit finally got into the basket for MacAvoy in game 23 against the Calgary Wranglers, a 7-3 win for the Legion. Following that breakthrough goal was another eight game goal scoring drought, giving MacAvoy 1 goal through the first 31 games of the season. Fast forward to today, and MacAvoy is now sitting on 10 goals in 53 games. After the 1 in 31 run to start the season, MacAvoy now has 9 in his last 22. That run includes a stretch of 7 goals in 9 games where MacAvoy was named the second star of the game against Moscow with a 3 point performance and the third star of the game against New York just two games later, scoring the game tying goal in the third period. The unlucky shooting percentage to start the season under 2% through the first 31 games now sits at 6.58%, bouncing back to a much more reasonable level than the start. MacAvoy shot 9.31% last season in Davos, so there is no reason to expect that it won't continue to improve this season and regress back to his norm. I expect a strong finish to the season heading into the playoffs for the second year player.
  9. Toronto Legion Press Conference (2 TPE for answering all six questions) 1. Quick and easy start, who is winning Game 7 between Edmonton and Florida tonight? (If this is after the game, did it go the way you thought?) 2. What attribute have you been focusing on upgrading lately? 3. In your opinion, should a player on the team that loses in the Cup Final be able to win the Conn Smythe Trophy for Final MVP? 4. Do you have a set day for when you start your TPE claims for the week, or is it just when you remember to do it? 5. Do you have any plans for the upcoming holidays in North America (Canada Day/Independence Day)? If you're not from North America, any exciting plans for the summer? 6. We're at 78 points on the season with 19 games left to play, and there are three teams right behind us with 77 points. How many points do you think that it'll take to lock up first place in the VHL at the end of the season?
  10. Just think of how special it could be to be at the helm of the first Cup ever in Halifax! You've certainly got the 21st in a great position to do it!
  11. It is a rare thing that the VHL community seems to unite their opinion on something, but it looks as though one of those times has come. We are midway through S94 currently, but the buzz for S100 has already commenced. Talks about large recruiting drives to bring in new bodies, talks of players skipping a season to line their players up with the S100 draft, talks of players retiring their players early, and talks of the prestige that will come from the league reaching the 100th season. It is a remarkable feat for the league to reach that mark, and it's no surprise that players want to be a part of that historic draft class. The conversation has primarily revolved around the draft and season itself, but what hasn't really been discussed is the fact that the VHLM is going to see a massive influx of players prior to that season, and that will likely lead to the deepest spread of players around the league in a long time. As stated in the rulebook, the largest goal in the VHLM is competitive balance and development. To reach that goal, there are limitations on draft pick ownership to maintain a competitive league. No team is allowed to have more than two each of first and second round picks, and must have at least three picks in the first four rounds. This means that everybody should have a good shot at adding multiple players from the expected deep draft class that will likely hit in S99, as well as any re-creates that come in mid-season in S98 that would also be S100 draft eligible. With that in mind, I wanted to take a look at the last time that each of the teams won a Founder's Cup in an attempt to see who could benefit the most from the crop of players coming in. I'm going to go in order of shortest to longest drought, as well as taking a look at the total amount of titles for the teams. I will only be including the current teams in their current iterations for this list, so no previous locations will count. Saskatoon Wild Last Cup: S93 Seasons Without: 0 Total Cups: 13 Philadelphia Reapers Last Cup: S92 Seasons Without: 1 Total Cups: 5 Mississauga Hounds Last Cup: S90 Seasons Without: 3 Total Cups: 1 San Diego Marlins Last Cup: S89 Seasons Without: 4 Total Cups: 2 Ottawa Lynx Last Cup: S87 Seasons Without: 6 Total Cups: 17 Las Vegas Aces Last Cup: S84 Seasons Without: 9 Total Cups: 10 Miami Marauders Last Cup: S79 Seasons Without: 14 Total Cups: 3 Mexico City Kings Last Cup: S76 Seasons Without: 17 Total Cups: 1 Houston Bulls Last Cup: S68 Seasons Without: 25 Total Cups: 1 Halifax 21st Last Cup: N/A Seasons Without: 31 Total Cups: 0 Looking at the standings this season in the VHLM, there is a sizeable gap between the top 6 teams and the bottom 4 teams, a chasm of 22 points. That likely means that it's a safe bet that Las Vegas, Ottawa, Philadelphia, and Mississauga won't be in a position this season to drop their "seasons without" counter down to 0. The team in the most need of a Founder's Cup, the Halifax 21st, are currently the top team in the VHLM. Halifax holds a 9 point advantage over second place in the M, as well as a +36 goal differential better than the second best differential. This dominance could be just what Halifax needs to win their first Cup. It's hard to know what the next few seasons will hold for the M, as the seasonal roster turnover is such a big part of the league, making it difficult to see who is in the best position to win over the next few seasons. Ottawa holds four 1st round picks in the next 2 drafts, the most in the league. That could give them a quick turnaround after this season. Las Vegas, Mexico City, and Philadelphia all hold three 1st rounders in the next 2 drafts, so they could improve quickly as well. I would imagine that teams who are thinking ahead will plan their competitive window around the lead up to S100, and would be wise to load up on draft picks for S99. Working backwards from there, you'd likely want to be competitive now and rebuilding around S97/S98 to sell off pieces.
  12. The Toronto Legion are the first team in the VHL this season to have four 20 goal scorers on the roster, a testament to their balanced scoring approach. There are three teams in the VHL who have three 20 goal scorers at the moment (London, Seattle, and Warsaw), but it was Toronto who won the race to four when Harry Callahan hit the mark last week. Here's a breakdown of those four scorers: Jimi Jaks Goals: 32 (2nd in VHL) Powerplay Goals: 4 (t-31st) Shorthanded Goals: 0 (t-28th) Game Winning Goals: 6 (t-6th) Shots: 315 (2nd) The Legion leader in goals sits second in the league in goals scored and shots, showing the offensive ability to lead the highest scoring team in the league. It's nothing new for Jaks, who has already passed the 30 goal mark for the fifth time in his career. Jaks is on pace for 59 goals this season. Diego Machado Goals: 29 (4th) Powerplay Goals: 6 (t-9th) Shorthanded Goals: 1 (t-2nd) Game Winning Goals: 5 (t-9th) Shots: 258 (17th) The breakout star for the Legion last season, Machado has continued to explode offensively for Toronto. An 18 goal S91 rookie season, Machado followed it up with 25 goals in S92, and 44 goals in S93. That upward trajectory looks to continue, as Machado is on pace for 54 goals this year. Mac Atlas Goals: 25 (t-13th) Powerplay Goals: 7 (t-7th) Shorthanded Goals: 0 (t-28th) Game Winning Goals: 3 (t-22nd) Shots: 303 (6th) Captain Mac and 20+ goal seasons go together like peanut butter and jelly. For the eighth straight season, it's locked in to happen. The challenge now for Atlas will be to catch the career high of 47 that was set last season, as he's on pace for 46 goals. If he can catch fire down the stretch, 50 isn't completely out of reach for the first time. Harry Callahan Goals: 21 (t-25th) Powerplay Goals: 6 (t-9th) Shorthanded Goals: 1 (t-2nd) Game Winning Goals: 4 (t-14th) Shots: 319 (1st) Similarly to Diego Machado, Harry Callahan has followed an upward trajectory in his career for goals. 24 in S91, 30 in S92, and 36 in S93, he's on pace for 39 goals this season. If he can pick it up, he can follow the pattern of 6 more goals a year to get to 42. Thank you for reading my article!
  13. Toronto Legion Press Conference (2 TPE for answering all six questions) 1. Jimi Jaks is first in the league in points, second in the league in goals, third in the league in assists, second in the league in shots, and first in the league in plus/minus. Is it safe to say that he's been our Most Valuable Player so far? 2. With another disappointing May for box offices around the world, why are the big movies that are supposed to kick off the summer failing to do so? 3. Are you on board with the consistent line changes this season (10 games per forward line, 7 games per defense line) to see how each group works, or do you think that it's smarter to only make changes if the team isn't playing well? 4. What is the last book that you read? Did you enjoy it, and would you recommend it to others? 5. We're 2 points back of first in the league, but we have played an extra game. Where do we need to improve to make up those points? 6. In a murder mystery, is it ever twins?
  14. Early on in your career as a player, it's expected that each season is going to be better for you statistically than the previous season as you grow your attributes. Sure, you see a step back in numbers as you move forward from the VHLM to the VHLE, and then onto the VHL. That can be expected as you play against players with higher point bases themselves, but you eventually grow into that group as well and continue to see your numbers rise. What do you do when that stops? How do you deal with seeing your numbers plateau (or start to drop) and work to continue to improve? I think that's something that people struggle with, and part of the reason why some people prefer to not run their player all the way to the end of their career eligibility. In my opinion, it's easier to stay motivated when your improvements and work show up quickly, you can see your player grow over the course of a run of games rather than an entire season. It's much more difficult to watch as your work can only be applied incrementally, and your player doesn't make much improvement at all. ------------------------------ Here's an example of what I mean: Let's say that a typical week of earning is 15 TPE. Player A has a current total TPE of 200. Player B has a current total TPE of 1000. This week, Player A picks up the 15 TPE earned and moves to 215 total TPE. They've seen an increase in total TPE of 7.5% this week, and are likely able to apply that TPE directly into their attributes to improve them by 15 points at the cost of 1 TPE per attribute point below 70. Comparatively, Player B picks up the 15 TPE earned and moves to 1015 TPE. They've seen an increase in total TPE of 1.5% this week, but will likely only be able to improve their player by between 1-3 attribute points with the cost likely being between 5 and 10 TPE per attribute point. ------------------------------ Now, this isn't a groundbreaking discovery or a complaint by any means, more just a current feel of futility knowing that the work each week can't make the difference that one would want it to make. It makes understanding the people who pull the chute on a player earlier than retirement age and focus on players that don't make it past the VHLE that much easier. I get why it would be appealing to be constantly improving, and then starting the cycle over again quickly. I think that the answer to the motivation question as a player ages points to discipline, and knowing that even though it's much more of a grind deeper into a players career, keeping up with the earning is still improving the player and it's still imperative to keep striving for more. The motivation also needs to come from looking at other top players in the league and wanting to keep pace with them, or outpace them to be better. This has been my rambling for the week, thanks for reading.
  15. Toronto Legion Press Conference (2 TPE for answering all six questions) 1. We're one of only five teams in the league to have every skater on the positive side of the +/- stat. What is working so well for us that everybody is a positive on the ice? 2. 6 teams in our conference have positive goal differentials and at least 26 points. Is the playoff race going to be this tight all season, or will somebody fall out of it? 3. If you could make any plans for a long weekend with no monetary or travel restrictions, what would they be? 4. What's your current TPE for your player? If this isn't your first player, what's the highest TPE that you've ever hit for an individual player? 5. Bobby Bob is leading all defenders in points, and Joel Castle is leading all goalies in points. Which one of them is likelier to be leading their position at the end of the season? 6. Have you ever done an escape room? If so, did you enjoy it? If not, is there a specific reason why?
  16. I was counting your 48 playoff games to get there They count too!
  17. Welcome to the party, pal!
  18. Legion legend keeps moving up the list!!
  19. 11 games into the season, and the Legion have racked up 48 goals, averaging 4.36 goals per game. That offensive outburst has contributed to the Legion's league best +18 goal differential, along with allowing the sixth fewest goals against. The Legion offensive lead so far has come from the balanced contributions across the roster, including from the 1000 TPE club, the newest of which is Diego Machado (1005 TPE as of writing). Toronto has five skaters who have more than 1000 active TPA: Bobby Bob - 1206 TPA Harry Callahan - 1165 TPA Jimi Jaks - 1121 TPA Mac Atlas - 1121 TPA Diego Machado - 1005 TPA All five of those skaters are in the top 10 in VHL point scoring at the moment: Bobby Bob - 19 points (t-7th) Harry Callahan - 18 points (9th) Jimi Jaks - 22 points (t-3rd) Mac Atlas - 20 points (t-5th) Diego Machado - 19 points (t-7th) This level of production has been a vital part of the Legion's 8-3-0 start to the season, and will be important to continue deep into this season if the Legion hope to achieve their goals for S94. It's not just the 1000 TPE group that is racking up points this season for Toronto, every skater on the roster is averaging better than half a point per game this season. That's something that only two other teams can say that they've done so far. The last skater on the roster looking for a goal this season is James MacAvoy, who has endured an unlucky scoring drought with 25 shots. That's bound to break through at some point, the bad shooting luck can't last forever.
  20. Toronto Legion Press Conference (2 TPE for answering all six questions) 1. We've started the season 8-3-0 so far. What has been the biggest contributor to that good start? 2. Who is looking like our biggest challenge in the North American division early in the season? 3. Oilers and Panthers in the Cup Final. Who do you have winning, and in how many games? 4. Joel Castle is set to make his 500th appearance in net for us this week. How important has this Legion legend been to the team? 5. We've got 5 players in the top 10 in points so far this season (Jaks, 22; Atlas, 20; Bob, 19; Machado, 19; Callahan, 18). By this time next week, which player will be leading? 6. Who is your favourite band (or bands) to listen to?

  24. Now that the S94 VHL Draft has passed and the roster maneuvering has been completed before the season starts, it's time to unveil the Legion roster and breakdown how everybody got here! Here is the team this season: Forwards #71 Diego Machado (S89) Username: @Dadam30 Career TPE - 998 Current TPE - 998 Toronto Legion S89 Draft Pick - 34th Overall VHLE Draft - Istanbul Red Wolves - 30th Overall VHLM Draft - Saskatoon Wild - 22nd Overall Position: C Height: 6'0" Weight: 189 lb. Age: 18 Nationality: CANADA S93 Stats: 72 GP 44 G 58 A 102 PTS +12 418 SHT 86 PIM 152 HIT 41 SB 5 GWG 10 PPG 0 SHG It was a third season offensive explosion for Diego Machado last season, one that saw career highs virtually across the board. Machado finished in a tie for second on the team in goals, third in assists, second in points, and tied for second in powerplay goals. He also ended the season tied for tenth in the VHL in goals scored and seventh in hat tricks. Machado centred the second line between Steve Lattimer and Harry Callahan last season, although it was second line in name only. In terms of production, the line saw huge numbers piled up, and Machado will be counted on to continue that offensive ascension this season. When not on the ice, Machado spends his off-time as the General Manager of the VHLM's Saskatoon Wild, and had a wildly successful first season there winning the Founder's Cup. Machado returns to Toronto for a fourth season on the roster, and to Saskatoon for a second season as GM. #88 Harry Callahan (S89) 'A' Username: @dstevensonjr Career TPE - 1166 Current TPA - 1166 Toronto Legion S89 Draft Pick - 17th Overall VHLE Draft - Bratislava Watchmen - 10th Overall VHLM Draft - Ottawa Lynx - 43rd Overall Position: RW Height: 6'2" Weight: 210 lb. Callahan set career highs in several statistical categories last season, and will look to improve on them this season. Callahan spent most of the season on the line with Lattimer and Machado, and finished the season with the team lead in points, while finishing second in assists, plus/minus, and game winning goals. League wide, he managed to finish 10th in points, tied for 7th in assists, and 7th in shots. He also joined Diego Machado last season in Saskatoon as the Assistant General Manager on the Founder's Cup winning team before accepting a job this off-season in the Toronto Legion front office as Assistant General Manager. #19 James MacAvoy (S89) Username: @Enraged Career TPE - 508 Current TPA - 508 Toronto Legion S94 Trade Addition VHL Draft - Malmo Nighthawks - 35th Overall VHLE Draft - Cologne Express - 29th Overall VHLM Draft - Mississauga Hounds - 21st Overall Position: RW Height: 5'8" Weight: 178 lb. Despite playing on a team that had a lean roster, it was a very productive rookie season for MacAvoy, finishing second in the VHL in rookie points. Almost a point per game player last season, MacAvoy will look to bring that younger scoring prowess to a group that is currently full of veteran forwards. It is expected that MacAvoy will get a good, long look on the top line to start the season this year, as there are minutes available to grab a hold of with those aforementioned vets. #89 Jimi Jaks (S87) Username: @ke1vi Career TPE - 1567 Current TPA - 1241 Toronto Legion S87 Draft Pick - 3rd Overall VHLE Draft - Oslo Storm - 25th Overall VHLM Draft - Halifax 21st - 15th Overall Position: C Height: 6'0" Weight: 190 lb. Third on the team in points, second in shots, first in penalty minutes, and first in hits last season, it was a sign of just how important he is to the Legion offense. Jaks set career bests in goals, assists, points, shots, penalty minutes, and shot blocks last season, and will now strive to hit an already high bar to set new highs this season. In terms of league wide ranks, Jaks was fifth in shots, tied for fifth in shorthanded goals, and tied for seventh in hat tricks. He has finished in the top three in team scoring in each of the last five seasons, including leading the team three times. Off the ice, Jaks is Assistant General Manager of the VHL's Riga Reign. #3 Kobe Johnson (S86) Username: @Vkobe-v Career TPE - 474 Current TPE - 474 Toronto Legion S86 Draft Pick - 22nd Overall VHLE Draft - Geneva Rush - 15th Overall VHLM Draft -Las Vegas Aces - 31st Overall Position: RW Height: 6'6" Weight: 200 lb. Following a solid rookie season in S92, Johnson managed to improve and set new highs in goals, assists, points, plus/minus, shots, hits, and shot blocks. Much like last season, it is expected that Johnson will get a long look on both forward lines, as he played with all of the returning forwards at different points last year. The S86 draft pick has an opportunity to try to win a Cup and go out on top this season. #22 Mac Atlas (S87) 'C' Username: @v.2 Career TPE - 1858 Current TPE - 1138 Toronto Legion S87 Draft Pick - 1st Overall VHLE Draft - Vasteras Iron Eagles - 37th Overall VHLM Draft - Ottawa Lynx - 1st Overall Position: C Height: 6'3" Weight: 190 lb. Atlas is coming off career best season, which is impressive considering how distinguished his career has been. Atlas set new highs in goals, assists, points, shots, shot blocks, and powerplay goals, and led the Legion in goals and game winning goals. His impressive season extended to league-wide ranks, as he finished tied for seventh in VHL in goals, third in shots, tied for eighth in powerplay goals, and tied for third in game winning goals. Atlas is rapidly rising up the ranks of Toronto all time stats categories for skaters, and still has plenty of runway to keep climbing. Atlas was captain of the Continental Cup winning team in S91, and will be counted on to do so again in the quest for another title. Atlas has a valuable leadership role on the ice, in the room, and in the front office for the Legion. Defenders #24 Bobby Bob (S88) 'A' Username: @Baby Boomer Career TPE - 1396 Current TPE - 1216 Toronto Legion S88 Draft Pick - 3rd Overall VHLE Draft - Rome Gladiators - 6th Overall VHLM Draft - Houston Bulls - 5th Overall Position: D Height: 6'0" Weight: 190 lb. Bob hit career bests in assists, points, shots, and shot blocks, which is difficult considering that he's already had multiple seasons of offensive excellence. Bob finished fourth in VHL in assists last seaons, and tied for seventh in points among defenders. Bobby has led the Toronto blueline in points each of the last 3 seasons, and will be expected to do so again this year. Bob re-signed in Toronto this past off-season, a three year contract that will take him through to retirement. On the ice, Bob will be wearing an 'A' again this season, a sign of his trusted leadership in Toronto. Dukat will be given looks on the top pair and second pair this season for the Legion, a sign that they've already earned the trust of the coaching staff and management. Very bright future. Andersson finished third on Moscow in shot blocks last season, showing a commitment to defense that will be greatly valued and needed this season in Toronto. Castle enters his eighth and final season in the VHL having played every minute of it in blue and white. This Legion legend was in net for the S91 Cup win, and will look to add one more title to the resume before retiring at seasons end. Castle narrowly missed out on setting a career best in wins last season, and will look to do that this season instead. Castle's tenth appearance this season in net for Toronto will be his 500th game played in a Legion jersey, a testament to his long run of success in the crease. #27 Toddly Bobbly (S91) Username: @ToddlyBobbly Career TPE - 403 Current TPE - 403 Toronto Legion S91 Draft Pick - 30th Overall VHLE Draft - Cologne Express - 41st Overall VHLM Draft - Saskatoon Wild - 36th Overall Position: G Height: 6'8" Weight: 200 lb. The largest contributor to that percentage was a goals against average of 2.84 that ranked better than several full time starters in the VHL. The expectations will only grow for this season for Bobbly, who will be looked at to start additional games in preparation for a bigger role after Castle's retirement. ------------------------------- Thank you for reading this breakdown. 25. Toronto Legion Announce S94 Captains and Assistants It's that time of year again, time to introduce the leadership group that will represent Toronto on the quest to win the Continental Cup! Team voting has been conducted, and here are the results of that vote: Assistant Captains #24 Bobby Bob @Baby Boomer For the second season in a row, Bob will wear an 'A' for the Legion. This should come as no surprise, as Bob has been the leader on the back end of this team for multiple seasons now. Entering his sixth season in the VHL, the blueliner re-signed in the off-season to commit to Toronto for the long haul. Bob will be a great mentor and example for the young defenders to come through Toronto for years. #74 Joel Castle @animal74 Joel Castle returns to wearing an 'A', and it's no shock seeing why. Entering his eighth and final season in the VHL, all of which have come in Toronto, Castle continues to be a franchise legend both on and off the ice. His leadership and mentoring capabilities are immeasurable for the Legion, and it will be bittersweet to see his retirement at the end of this season. #88 Harry Callahan @dstevensonjr Callahan wears an 'A' for the Legion for the third straight season, a sign that his teammates trust the fourth year pro to continue to grow into a leadership role in Toronto. Callahan has made the jump to a consistent point producer on the ice, and joined the Toronto front office as Assistant General Manager this past off-season. Captain #22 Mac Atlas @v.2 Was there ever any doubt? For the sixth consecutive season, it will be Captain Mac wearing the 'C' for the Legion. A unanimous choice in the voting, it is no surprise that the eighth year pro is the leader that everybody will look to again to set an example for this team. As Atlas moves up the all-time ranks of Legion skater statistics, he will look to add to his already sterling resume this season. Thank you for reading. Go Legion!!
