Davos and Vancouver set for Continental Cup Showdown
dstevensonjr posted a topic in VHL.com Articles
The Continental Cup Final is here, and it sees the HC Davos Dynamo and Vancouver Wolves set to do battle for a title. In the regular season this year, the two teams met five times. Here's a breakdown of how their season series went: Game 1 Davos at Vancouver Game 60 Score: 4-3 DAV (SO) Shots: 49-30 VAN Davos had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the first and second period, and both times saw the Wolves equalize within 4 minutes. Vancouver would take a 3-2 before the end of the second period, while Davos would tie the game in the third period to send the game to overtime, followed by a shootout. This game saw the Wolves dominate the shot clock, but some up short in the shootout. Davos' Mina had the shootout winner, while Merome Dilson had 46 saves in regulation and overtime, and 4 more in the shootout. Game 2 Vancouver at Davos Game 332 Score: 3-2 VAN (SO) Shots: 40-26 VAN The Dynamo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but that was all the scoring that they would do. A pair of powerplay goals, one in the first period and one in the second by the Wolves would tie the game, sending it through a scoreless third period and into overtime. With no goals over the final period and the extra session, the shootout would see Pierre-Marc Bouchard score the winning goal. After 2 goals against in the span of 1:10, Vancouver goalie Soju would not give up another for the final 49 minutes of regulation, as well as the overtime and shootout. Game 3 Davos at Vancouver Game 341 Score: 2-1 DAV (SO) Shots: 44-28 VAN The only scoring in regulation for this game included and early second period goal by Davos and a late third period powerplay goal by Vancouver. After a regulation where they dominated the shot clock, the Wolves were defeated in the shootout by a pair of goals from Davos' Antonia Bucatini and Grimgor Ironhide. Merome Dilson was the star of the show again for Davos, stopping 43 of 44 shots in regulation/overtime, along with both Vancouver attempts in the shootout. Game 4 Davos at Vancouver Game 355 Score: 5-3 DAV Shots: 56-22 VAN This game featured the most scoring of the season series, and it got started early with Davos breaking the ice under 3 minutes into the game. Vancouver would reply with a pair of powerplay goals less than 7 minutes later, and would lead the game 2-1 heading into the intermission. After a scoreless first half of the second period, there would be 5 goals in the back half, 4 of which would be scored by Davos. The Dynamo got on the board first to tie the game at 2-2, with the Wolves bouncing right back to take the lead 3-2 just over a minute later. It only took Davos 10 seconds to even the game back up at 3-3, and by the end of the period it was 5-3 Dynamo. That's how the game would end, with Merome Dilson making another 53 saves on Vancouver in the win. Game 5 Vancouver at Davos Game 407 Score: 3-2 DAV (OT) Shots: 38-29 VAN The teams traded goals in the first period, with Vancouver scoring and Davos responding. Following a scoreless second period, the teams would trade goals in the third, again with Vancouver scoring and Davos responding. In overtime, it was Antonia Bucatini capping off the win for the Dynamo. It was the Dilson show in net for Davos again, making 36 saves in the win for the Dynamo. Conclusion This series looks like it will come down to whether Vancouver can continue to carry the play on the shot clock and actually break through the brick wall that is Merome Dilson in net for Davos. The Dynamo need to continue to be opportunistic and take advantage of a counter attack that led them to win this season series 4-1. The closest that Davos came on the shot clock was in the last game (which was still 9 shots less than Vancouver had), but that didn't stop them from winning the series handily. My prediction is that Dilson continues to stymie Vancouver enough to win a tight series in 7 games. -
Let me preface this by saying that I'm aware that there are some discrepancies between the portal stats and what has occurred over the history of the league, but since the portal is the only place that the stats are listed, that's what I'm basing this off of. After six seasons with the Legion, Harry Callahan has climbed the ranks of the Legion stats pages, both in the regular season and the playoffs. Here's a breakdown of the statistical categories and where Callahan sits: Points Regular Season - 10th (545) / Playoffs - 4th (74) For the regular season, Callahan is 1 point back of 9th, 7 back of 8th, 18 back of 7th, and 21 back of 6th. To crack the top 5, it would take a 63 point season. On the playoff list, 3rd place is 3 points away, while 2nd place is 15 up, and the leader is 26 away at the top. Goals Regular Season - 9th (234) / Playoffs - 3rd (35) More of a gap here, as Callahan is 16 goals back of 8th place for the regular season. Cracking the top 5 will take 45 goals. In the playoffs, Callahan is 3 goals away from 2nd place, and 9 goals back of 1st. Assists Regular Season - 14th (311) / Playoffs - 7th (39) Similarly to the goals list in the regular season, Callahan needs 22 assists to move up a spot into 13th. There is a large cluster of players above that, and Callahan needs 58 to move into 5th place. For the playoffs, Callahan 1 assist back of 6th, 4 back of 5th, and 5 back of 4th. Plus/Minus Regular Season - 14th (+164) / Playoffs - 3rd (+29) This is a difficult one, mostly because it is more reflective of how strong the team has been. Callahan would need to be +16 in the regular season to move into the top 10, and +59 to move into 5th place. On the playoff side, Callahan would need to be +6 or better to move into the top spot. Shots Regular Season - 6th (2970) / Playoffs - 3rd (415) Callahan needs 126 regular season shots to move into 5th all time, and 273 to move into 4th place. In the playoffs, Callahan is 72 shots back of 2nd and 142 back of 1st. Hits Regular Season - 12th (1043) / Playoffs - 9th (130) In the regular season, Callahan is 27 hits away from moving into the top 10, and 249 away from the top 5. For the playoffs, Callahan is 1 hit back of 8th, 16 back of 7th, 17 back of 6th, and 24 back of the top 5. Game Winning Goals Regular Season - 8th (44) / Playoffs - 2nd (9) Callahan is 4 regular season game winners away from 5th place, and 10 away from 4th. 1 playoff game winner is all that Callahan needs to move into a tie for 1st place. Powerplay Goals Regular Season - 8th (51) / Playoffs - 4th (7) 7th place on the regular season list is only 3 powerplay goals away for Callahan, while 6th is 4 PPG's out and 4th place is 5 away. On the playoffs side, Callahan is 1 PPG back of 3rd, 2 back of 2nd, and 3 back of 1st. With a strong final season in Toronto, Callahan would move into the top 5 in several statistical categories, hopefully cementing the foundation of a legacy of productivity with the Legion. Playing through an era with other Legion players who have made it to the top of the lists like Mac Atlas, Jimi Jaks, and Bobby Bob, it would be an honour to join those players in Toronto history.

Toronto Legion Press Conference (2 TPE for answering all six questions) 1. Who is going to win the Continental Cup in the Finals, Vancouver or Davos? 2. What would be the coolest video game to get dropped directly into and play? 3. Do you think that we should have more ways to earn TPE in the VHL, or do we need to keep the cap on earning as there currently is? 4. Will the Minnesota Wild (and their players) get more deserved attention now that they're leading the NHL in points? 5. What is the most important position for us to add in the upcoming VHL Draft? 6. Which movie has your favourite twist ending? (Don't reveal the twist) -
Can we purge older posts from the Team Press Conferences? It takes significantly longer to load that section of the forum than most others. Likely don't need to keep all of the posts going back to 2019 due to the volume of them.

Congratulations on a wonderful career as GM in Malmo, you're far and away the franchise's leader in GM wins and games, and I doubt that will be touched any time soon. You've been a pleasure to chat with for off the ice deals as well, which is a bonus. As far as outside the league, it's nice to hear that it's some personal success that has limited your time, hopefully that continues for you! Best of luck with that side of things, and hopefully we continue to see you around the league a bit (especially in net for the Legion!).

Answers 1. Pittsburgh Steelers, as a play on the skate blades, as well as the connection to the city. 2. I think that it's probably Keon for the individual and team success. At some point it could be Matthews, but that will require him to do what hasn't been possible for many other Leafs legends. 3. Probably football to watch and baseball to play. I love fantasy football, so it keeps me entertained. Played baseball for years when I was younger, would like to get back to it at some point. Questions 1. What is your favourite spoof/parody movie of all time? 2. Would you rather block a big shot or throw a big hit late in the third period with a one goal lead? 3. Does ketchup belong on Kraft Dinner?

A pair of defenders heading into the prime of their career are set to be the stars of the Legion blueline for the foreseeable future. Heading into their third and fourth seasons in the VHL respectively, the Legion look set to see Andrew Skilton and Gul Dukat take control of the back end and handle the bulk of the defensive load moving forward. Skilton is under contract with the Legion through S99, while Dukat has signed until S98, so both players have plenty of time to continue to grow into their new responsibilities in Toronto. Both players are coming off of point increases in this past season, and will attempt to best their totals again next season. Skilton saw an 8 point increase from his first season to his second, while firing 43 more shots at the net. Dukat picked up 11 more points than S95, and added 55 more shots over the previous season. The players will still have a veteran to guide them along, as Walter Fitzroy Jr. is set to enter his 7th season on the Toronto blueline, coming off of a career high in goals last season. Fitzroy Jr. is also signed through S98 to provide the stabilizing presence on the back end, so the Legion blueline is almost set for a couple of seasons.

This is awesome, thank you!!

Coming off of a 99 point season in the VHLE last season for the Bratislava Watchmen, expectations were high for Dorji Khan coming into this season. The first season in the VHL can be daunting for any player, but that especially goes for a player who was looking to help replace a large amount of lost production for a team that had just lost two franchise icons the previous off-season. Dorji Khan has thus far lived up to those expectations of being a player who could bring the offensive talent and production to the team. Khan sits in fifth place in Rookie Scoring in the VHL with 43 points in 67 games, and has an outside shot at a 50 point season with a strong finish to the year. It's been an even amount of production for Khan, who has 21 goals and 22 assists this year, showing the ability to be both a goal scorer and a playmaker. The production showed this season bodes well for Khan's future in Toronto, after signing a 3 year extension through S99 to stay in the blue and white. With a career on the upswing, the future is very bright for Dorji Khan in Toronto!

Toronto Legion Press Conference (2 TPE for answering all six questions) 1. Barring a miracle, we're set to miss the playoffs for the first time since S89. What areas do we need to improve in on the roster next season to ensure that it doesn't happen again? 2. If you had to pick music from a specific decade to listen to for the rest of your life, what decade would it be? 3. What are you most and least happiest about your player's individual season this year? 4. Which NHL team's start to the season has been most surprising in your opinion? 5. If you could change one thing in the VHL, what would it be and why? 6. Would you say that you are more left-brained or right-brained? -
Well, I can't say that I expected that! Pretty cool to see, and a very informative article!

It's been a weird season in Toronto, one that started with high expectations after back to back Finals losses, and has unfolded as one of missed opportunities. It took a trade of Legion captain Bobby Bob to wake the Legion up, rattling off 8 straight wins as a desperate team with very little season left to climb back into the playoff race. The Legion closed the point gap back of a playoff spot from 15 points to 7, eyeing a chance to catch New York. The Americans hold a game in hand, so the gap could still be 9 points with 9 games left in the season if New York wins the extra game. The two teams play a head to head game in Toronto this upcoming week, one that the Legion will surely have to win if they have any chance of pulling off this miracle. While the odds are stacked against them, this will still be a fun week to see how everything unfolds.

Toronto Legion Press Conference (2 TPE for answering all six questions) 1. It's a bittersweet time in Toronto, as our General Manager has announced his retirement from the front office after a decade of building up a strong contender, all while creating a locker room atmosphere of fun and loyalty that led to many players spending their entire careers in Toronto. How special is what he has built here with the Legion, and what is the most important part of his legacy for you as a player? 2. If you curl up with a good book, how long are you staying cozy and reading? 3. The trade deadline has come and gone, and we said goodbye to long time Legion defender Bobby Bob to send him on a quest to win one more Continental Cup in Calgary. What has Bobby meant to this organization as a fixture on the blueline for the past 7 and a half seasons? 4. Rank the original Skittles flavours from 1-5: Grape, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Strawberry. 5. With us being 15 points out of a playoff spot with 18 games left, what should our focus be for the rest of the season? 6. Are you good with leftovers for food? -
Trade deadline salaries at 50% plus adding Bobbly gives them the salary cap space with the backup exemption to make the trade by our calculations.
-
Conditions in the trade: S97 MAL 3RD becomes S98 MAL 1ST if Malmo wins the S96 Continental Cup S97 TOR 2ND becomes S97 VAN 3RD if Malmo wins the S96 Continental Cup

It has been an honour and a privilege to work with you in Toronto. The league should give you an honourary David Knight Trophy for the amount of talent that you gathered in Toronto, but never seemed to fully get credit for. It takes a lot to build a team that is consistently in the mix for a title. so having built one that won 2+ rounds in 4 out of 5 years deserves serious recognition. I very much look forward to our paths crossing many more times!!
-
The best of luck in Calgary, Bobby! I hope that you can win another Cup for one of the best defensemen in Toronto Legion history! Thank you for everything that you've given to the Legion organization @Baby Boomer!!

Toronto Legion Joe Malone/Kevin Brooks Trophy Winners
dstevensonjr replied to dstevensonjr's topic in Media Spots
Week 2 1000+ words -
With this being theme week, and the theme being VHL Lore, I decided to take a look back at the previous winners of the Kevin Brooks Trophy (previously Joe Malone Memorial Trophy) in Legion history. The Legion currently have the leading goal scorer in the VHL, so it would be cool to go through the award's history as it pertains to the Legion. Here we go, from first to do it to last! S7 - Scotty Campbell 73 goals The player who now holds the honour of being the namesake of the Most Valuable Player Trophy, this was Campbell's fourth and final win in the first seven seasons for the VHL. Campbell won his first Joe Malone Memorial Trophy in S2 with Vasteras IK, scoring 79 goals. Two seasons later, Campbell won it again, potting 87 goals for Seattle. The following season, S5 saw Campbell pile up 89 goals in Seattle, setting an all-time high for the VHL. Campbell's scoring prowess as the top goal scorer in league history has earned him a spot on the VHL's Mount Rushmore. S9 - Kevin Brooks 63 goals The player who this trophy is now named after, Brooks notched his first and only Joe Malone Memorial Trophy two seasons after the Legion last won it. His 63 goals topped the league for goal scoring, and his overall play led to numerous trophies, including the trophy named after the previous Legion player to win the Joe Malone Trophy. Brooks' five seasons in Toronto were full of goal scoring and point production before heading off to Vasteras to continue his career. S23 - Peyton Nydroj 60 goals A full 14 seasons after the team's last Joe Malone Trophy win, it was Peyton Nydroj's 60 goal season that notched the third for the Legion organization. Nydroj played six seasons in Toronto, and it was their fifth that netted their first JMM Trophy (but not their last). The 60 goal season represented a career high for Nydroj. S24 - Peyton Nydroj 58 goals It didn't take Nydroj quite as long to add another JMM Trophy to the Legion trophy case, as it was back to back seasons capturing the honour. Nydroj became the first member of the Legion to go back to back with the Trophy (and the only member to do it without splitting honours in team history). Only two goals less than the previous season, Nydroj saw a career high in shots and points in S24, their final one in Toronto. S46 - Max Molholt 63 goals 22 seasons (and one trophy name change later), it was Max Molholt's turn to win the newly named Kevin Brooks Trophy for the Legion. Molholt was a career player for the Legion, spending 8 seasons exclusively in the blue and white. It only took until their second season in Toronto to set a career high in goals and capture the Kevin Brooks Trophy. S51 - Zach Parechkin 65 goals A handful of seasons after the last win for the Legion, it was Zach Parechkin potting 65 goals for the second highest total to win the trophy in Legion history. Parechkin's career was littered with trophy wins (both for individual and team accomplishments), but it was the 65 goal S51 that netted him his only Kevin Brooks Trophy. S51 also came with wins of the Brett Slobodzian Trophy (Most Outstanding Player), Grimm Jonsson Trophy (Top Leader), and the Scott Boulet Trophy (Best Two-Way Forward). S63 - Sebastian Ironside 56 goals It took just over a decade for the next Legion member to win the Trophy, and it would be Sebastian Ironside who would kick off a three season run of KBT's for Toronto. Ironside's 56 goals in S63 would represent a career high, and would net him a Scotty Campbell Trophy (League MVP), as well as a Dustin Funk Trophy (Most Improved). Ironside would set a career high in points, game winning goals, and shots in S63 as well. S64 - Oyorra Arroyo (Co-Winner) 56 goals Matching the previous season's trophy winning total, it was Oyorra Arroyo this time to hold the honour, splitting the trophy with 56 goals scored. After four seasons in Calgary, Arroyo would kick off a four season run in Toronto with a bang, posting their highest goal total to date in their career. The offensive production would help lead to a Legion Continental Cup this season, and would be the tip of the iceberg for Arroyo's production in Toronto. S65 - Oyorra Arroyo 62 goals It was a hat trick of trophies for Toronto, and this time Arroyo would hold the trophy solely. Following up on their first big individual trophy win, Arroyo would have an offensive explosion in S65, setting a career high in goals, assists, points, and powerplay goals. That high level of offensive production would see Arroyo fill up their trophy case, capturing the following trophies in S65: Brett Slobodzian Trophy (Most Outstanding Player), Scotty Campbell Trophy (League MVP), Mike Szatkowski Trophy (Most Points), and the Continental Cup, S67 - Veran Dragomir 48 goals Two seasons after Arroyo's win, it would be Veran Dragomir closing out a run of four Brooks trophies in five seasons for the Legion. The trophy win would come in Dragomir's only season in Toronto, and would be the only time that they'd win the Brooks Trophy. Dragomir's offensive production would help lead Toronto to a Victory Cup. This season capped off a career of goal scoring for Dragomir, who played 8 seasons in the VHL, all of which had at least 35 goals scored. S83 - Paul Atreides 61 goals Sixteen seasons after the previous win for Toronto, it would be Paul Atreides topping the 60 goal mark to win the 11th Kevin Brooks Trophy in team history. This offensively dominant season for Atreides would hold career highs in goals, assists, points, plus/minus, shots, shot blocks, and game winning goals. Atreides would also be the last player to win the Kevin Brooks Trophy with more than 60 goals until another Legion player did it a decade later. S94 - Jimi Jaks 62 goals The most recent winner of the Kevin Brooks Trophy for the Legion, it took eleven seasons to do it after the last win. This season was the culmination of a solid offensive career in Toronto for Jaks, with him setting career bests in goals, assists, points, plus/minus, shots, hits, game winnings goals, and powerplay goals. S94 netted Jaks significant individual award recognition, as he walked away with the Brett Slobodzian Trophy (Most Outstanding Player), Mike Szatkowski Trophy (Most Points), Scott Boulet Trophy (Best Two-Way Forward), and helped Toronto to a Victory Cup. Thank you for reading my article!

Toronto Legion Press Conference (2 TPE for answering all six questions) 1. We're 17-16-5 heading into the week before the deadline. What should our approach be this week? 2. Who is your favourite superhero? 3. Are you an early riser or a night owl? 4. If you had to restart your players career right now with 100 TPE, what attribute would you build up first? 5. In a bag of Munchies (Doritos, Cheetos, Rold Gold Pretzels, Fritos Hoops) which chip are you eating first and which are you eating last? 6. How long could you go without using the internet? -
It's been a strange season in Toronto, one that has seen the Legion struggle out of the gate to a 13-13-4 record, sitting 7th in the North American Conference. The Legion sit 7 points back of a playoff spot currently, and need to start making up ground quickly. The start to the season has made it difficult to enjoy the fact that Harry Callahan is off to the best start to a season in his VHL career, on pace to set career highs in goals, points, hits, and game winning goals. Callahan set his career high in goals last season, hitting the 50 goal mark for the first time. He's on pace for 55 this season. Similarly, he set a high with 105 points last season, and is on pace for 110 this year. The big jump has come in the hits department, as Callahan's previous high in a season was 180, and he's on pace for 286 this season. He is also on pace to set a career high in game winning goals with 10, after scoring 9 in S92. Those personal feats have not made up for the fact that the Legion are in position to miss the playoffs for the first time since S89.

Toronto Legion Press Conference (2 TPE for answering all six questions) 1. Another week has passed, and we're still scuffling along at 10-10-4. We sit 5 points back of a playoff spot. What do we need to do to get back to winning? 2. What is your favourite kind of soup? 3. You come down the ice on a breakaway, what's your go to move to beat the goalie? 4. What costume would you pick to wear for Halloween? 5. If Toronto were to change team names, what would you change it to? 6. What do you dip your french fries into?
