Unsung Hero Honorable Mention - Patrik Tallinder

Claim for theme week. -
I couldn’t not write an article about this guy during theme week. Although I didn’t write about him in my media spot I figured this was a good place to show my appreciation. Patrik Tallinder is a quiet presence for the Hounds. He isn’t very active in the Hounds locker room but is very active when it comes to his training and on ice performances. He is an assistant captain for the Hounds and one of the points leaders. He’s tied for the goal scoring lead in the VHLM with 53 goals and is one goal away from breaking the Hounds single season record for goals. Talli is an animal on the ice and is going to have a very strong career in the VHL starting next season. I am grateful to have had him as my teammate this season and am excited to be going to battle with him in the upcoming playoffs. Patrik Tallinder is my honorable mention as the Hounds Unsung Hero. word count: 165

Unsung Hero - S69 When I first read that the theme for this season would be Unsung Hero’s I kind of hesitated and started panicking about who I would write this about. As the night went on and I ran through all of the players I know and who I share the ice with it had become abundantly clear who my choice would be. There are many players that would have been good choices to write about. This player however I think deserves some spotlight as he doesn’t seem to get enough of it. He is the heart and soul of the Mississauga Hounds, Jimmy Spyro. The Stats I want to start my talking about the stats. He has had an unbelievable season with the Hounds. He has backstopped the Hounds to a 2nd place spot in the standings after 60 games. He is currently 2nd in wins with 45 wins behind only Jacques Lafontaine who leads with 58 wins. His save percentage has dipped a little bit over the Hounds recent slump but still has a respectable .887 percentage. He has an incredible goals against average at 1.97 and has a league leading 8 shutouts! Facing over 1000 shots this season Spyro has proven to be among the elite in goaltending in the VHLM and arguably one of the best goaltenders to ever wear a Hound uniform. The Person Putting aside the incredible statistics he has put together this season, there is a young man always beaming with positivity and excitement for the game. He is a very personable and active member in our locker room. He gets along with every player on our roster. Doesn’t matter if we are winning or losing he is always trying to find the silver lining and pick guys up when they are having a bad stretch of games. He can be a little hard on himself but that shows how serious he takes his game. He wants to be the best and if he continues to put in the hard work and sticks with that positive attitude then he will be the best. The Hard Work One of the more hardworking was players on our roster. You never have to remind him to do his training for the week. He’s always working and tweaking his training to get better. If goalies could have a letter in the VHLM he could easily have a C or A just because of the example he sets when it comes to being a better player and teammate. Conclusion Spyro is the best. He isn’t leading the team in points or goals. He isn’t always one of the three stars. His work on and off the ice however is what makes him an unsung hero on our team. Without a goalie who works as hard as Spyro has then the Hounds would not be where they are in the standings. He recently created a graphic with the captain and the assistant captains. He was apart of that photo and even though he’s not a captain he feels like he belongs with that group of players. That enough of the tummy sticks with my boy Spyro, it’s time to focus on the final stretch of the regular season and locked up that second spot in the standings. Go Hounds Go! Word count : 552

1.Felt good to beat the Wild but we haven’t been as good since. 2. Tallinder-Wright-Rice Clarke-Davis Spyro 3. I think it’s because Talli and I are still separated. 4. Our backup? Frisk? 5. Just being a part of the hounds locker room in general is the best experience. Everyone is fairly active and the conversations are hilarious. 6. I would put myself in the AGM position. I’m active enough I could help out but don’t think I’d be able to be a GM.

As per usual another very close game between the Marlins and the Hounds. The Hounds finished ahead of the Marlins by a score of 3-2 by way of a shootout. The first period was a chess match as two teams tried to avoid making the first mistake. The Hounds peppered the Marlins with 13 shots while limiting the Marlins chances to 3. At the end of one period the score remain tied. The second period is when the tides began to shift in the favour of the Marlins. San Diego opened the scoring with a a goal from Aldis Auzins as he takes a beautiful pass from Roadkill Steve for the easy tap in. Just over 2 minutes later Nate Wright answers right back for the Hounds. A great passing play from Will Clarke up to Kris Rice for the 2 on 1 and Rice sent it over to Wright and he finished it off from there. Before the period would end Vladimir Shaposhnikov would bury another goal for the Marlins as they retake the lead. 7 minutes into the third the Hounds tie the game at 2. Will Clarke with the booming slap shot from the point makes it way past the goaltender. Wright and Rice moving that puck around opened Clarke up for the wide open shot. The game would remain tied after 3 and we are headed to overtime. Both teams traded chances in overtime but neither team was able to capitalize on their chances pushing this game to the shootout. No goals were scored until the 5th round when Nick Kirkpatrick of the Marlins gives the Marlins the lead. It was up to Jimothy Frost to keep the Hounds in the game and he does just that. The shootout continued past into the 7th round. Cameron Eastwood was stones by Spyro and it was up to Finnegan MacBurn to end it for the Hounds. He comes down the right side and fakes the shot causing the goaltender to move enough for Macburn to shelf it and give the Hounds the thrilling shootout victory over the Marlins! Word Count : 350

For the week ending 12/15: 1. We've got our roster set for the rest of the season! How do we look, and how do you feel about our chances? 1. We look deep. Our team has performed very well and I feel our chances will only improve. 2. It's obvious that we got some great signings, but did we do the best? Should we have gone for anyone different? 2. Yes we did do the best. I wouldn’t change anything. 3. Rewind to the beginning of the season. @Motzaburger tries to get me to sell again, and this time I agree to it. What ridiculous thing do I make him do for Tallinder? 3. Three 1st round picks and a podcast praising Gustav the entire time. 4. @Nykonax has been annoying me about the lines already. What do I do to punish him? 4. I can’t judge. I whined about being on the second line all season haha. I still can’t get a chance to play with Talli even though I’m up on the first! So I say let him continue to be annoying haha. 5. Do we remain in second place for the rest of the season? Does anyone have a chance to take over? 5. We remain 2nd by season end but I think Mexico City will definitely be right on our heels. 6. Out of our three recreates (Vikingstad, Oferson, and Davis), which one to you looks the most promising and why? 6. I like Vikingstad. His build is more well rounded than the others.

Kris Rice and the Hounds - Midseason Review!

Where to Start? It is hard to find a place to start when doing my midseason review. I really want to take some time to talk about the Hounds season so far but I also want to break down how well Kris Rice has done individually while also mentioning a teammate or two along the way. I think ill break down exactly how I mentioned and start with a breakdown of the Hounds season so far. The Mississauga Hounds Season 69 has been a complete success to date for the Mississauga Hounds. They have 34 wins, 8 losses and 3 overtime losses just over halfway through the season. They currently sit second place three points ahead of Mexico City. If the Hounds continue on this pace, they will set a new regular season record for the franchise. The most interesting thing I find about the Hounds and their season is that they aren't a high scoring team. In fact there are three other teams currently ahead of them in team scoring including Saskatoon, Mexico City, and San Diego. Where the team thrives is on the defensive side of the ice. Mississauga is ranked 2nd in goals against only behind Saskatoon with 91 goals against and giving them the 2nd best goal differential in the VHLM despite the lack of offense. So despite the team not having much high end talent, the team as a whole works well defensively. Of course being backstopped by a true #1 goaltending prospect in Jimmy Spyro doesn't hurt either. To wrap things up on the Hounds, the season to date has been a huge success and I expect a strong finish the rest of the way. Do they have what it takes to get the job done when the playoffs come around? Only time will tell. Hounds Standouts Now I want to take a moment to mention a few players on the Hounds roster that deserve to be mentioned for their play this season. These players are leaders amongst our team and if not for their efforts this season the Hounds wouldn't be doing as well as they have. Patrik Tallinder : Talli has been the most consistent Hound this season. For most of the season he has led the Hounds in points and all season has led the team in goals scored. He currently has 41 goals which puts him 2nd in the VHLM for goals scored. He is the most clutch performer on the Hounds roster with 11 game winning goals. This leads the entire VHLM which shows when the big moments come around and you need a guy to step up to seal the victory, Talli is your guy. Tallinder is a silent leader in the Hounds locker room, where his leadership speaks the loudest is on the ice and the Hounds have been lucky to have him. Finnegan MacBurn: Finn is the rock on the back end for this team. He is one of the most sound defenders in all of the VHLM. He is currently ranked in the top 10 in defenseman scoring along side teammate Will Clarke and leads his team in assists with 53 on the season to date. The 53 assists also puts him top 5 in the entire league which shows he is one of the best playmaking defenseman this season. While MacBurn can dish the puck and contribute well on the offensive side of the ice, he is just as competent in his own end. He currently leads his team in shots blocked with 62. He is always willing to throw his body on the line in order to help his team get the win. The Hounds are very fortunate to have such a consistent player on their back end. Jimmy Spyro: Spyro is a popular locker room guy. He is always so upbeat and positive that it tends to rub off on the other guys in the room. Not only is he captain positivity but he is also a big stats nerd. He is constantly following each game and tracking personal stats as well as teammates statistics. He is consistently reminding the team how they are progressing through the season and its nice to have someone around who is such a huge help in the Hounds locker room. Where Spyro shines the most is in the crease. He is one of the best goalies in the VHLM this season and for the stats guy himself I have a lot of stats to back that up. He currently sits second in wins with 34, also 4th in the league in save percentage with a .891 % which continually continues to rise, he's 3rd in the league with an insane 1.96 GAA, number one in the league in shutouts with 6, and has let in the second fewest amount of goals this season. This guy is a maniac and I am personally very excited to see where his career takes him. There are many talented players on our roster, a few honorable mentions are newcomers Will Clarke and Nate Wright who have been great additions to this team. Cheezy and Frost are also having good rookie seasons in the VHLM. Now its time to breakdown the season its been for myself. Kris Rice What a second season it has been for myself. To be apart of this team with so many talented players has been a surreal experience. I am trying to enjoy each moment of it as it could be something very special. This is going to be my last season in the VHLM as I make the jump next year but I do not want to look to far ahead just yet. We still have just under half a season to play and playoffs soon after that. Lets breakdown a few areas of my game for old times sake and have a look at what I need to do to improve my game for the next step in my career. Offense: A tale of two completely different seasons it has been during my two years in the VHLM. Last year was purely developmental and I barely hit the score sheet on a regular basis. My game was solely defense focused because we had the talent to carry the offensive load. Now that our star players from the past season have moved up to the VHL this season, a few players such as Patrik Tallinder and myself have had to step into bigger roles for this team. Tallinder is a huge reason I have done so well this season offensively. I thrive to be the best and to be the best you have to beat the best and Tallinder is the best. He has given me a reason to continue to produce and thrive offensively so that I can one day say I stood up to the standards he has set for this team. After 45 games I am leading the team in points with 82 points. Second on the team in goals with 40 behind Tallinder and have contributed 42 assists. I never would have thought that I would have hit 40 goals in my life time being a playmaking winger but this year Talli and I have had to share the load to get us these wins. Needless to say the stats speak for themselves, offense has not been an issue this season. Defense: This is the part of my game I will always take pride in. Even when I make the jump to the VHL the sole focus of my training to begin my career there will be to improve on my defensive game first and allow my offense to build off of that. This season has been a continuance of last when it comes to my defensive game. Currently tied for 3rd in +/- with a rating of +27 and have contributed 11 blocks this season. I cant stress enough the importance of defense and our team as whole this season has been a defensive juggernaut. Physicality: An area of my game that I used to shy away from was the physical side. I am not the biggest of players nor was I ever the most physical player growing up. I have realized though that as you play in the VHLM and move up to play in the VHL you will be playing against men. The game gets tough and other players are physical and you have to be able to hold your own when the time arises. This season I worked a bit on my strength and as a result of that I have played with a bit of an edge. I am 4th on the team with 70 hits and 1st on the team in PIM's. I am not particularly proud of leading in penalty minutes but sometimes you have to make the tough choice to prevent a goal and I have had to do that a time or two. Also I think headbutting a guy and getting thrown out of a game will get those numbers up as well.... To wrap up what has been a long and drawn out article, I just want to say its been a hell of a season so far with the Mississauga Hounds. From the very top with management making the tough choices with trading players and setting lines, right down to the 4th line grinders battling in their own ends every night, this organization is building towards something special this season and I am excited that I get to be a part of that.
