  7. The Life and Times of Shush Nyko Childhood Tragedy Shush Nyko was born Aksel Bergsteinn, on May 14th, 2003. He was born in Reykjavik, Iceland to a fishing family. His father was a very well-known Ice Fisherman, while his mother was a politician. This impressed a hard work ethic on him from a very young age. When he was quite young his father was out on the ice catching fish and little Aksel was playing around on the ice. This is when tragedy or fortune struck. Little Aksel fell into the ice and almost drowned. His father being a proud ice man decided that his son will never be at a disadvantage on the ice. From there on out Aksel was in hockey skates and playing ice sports. Despite his father thinking this event would scar him from ever playing, the exact opposite thing happened. Young Aksel was a natural on the ice, growing up with ice in his veins and due to almost freezing in ice, something clicked inside of him. This was both a tragedy and a blessing, it gave him the courage to play and the fearlessness to never lose. He fought and scraped for every inch inside that ice and he was going to do the same on the ice. NEVER TELL ME NO Ice Hockey in Iceland was an up and coming sport when young Aksel was first getting into the sport. There was an older idiot name Nyko who told Aksel he would never amount to anything. Well young Aksel took this to heart and worked even harder. He wouldn’t let that idiot Nyko be right, so he immediately changed his name to Shush Nyko. This showed his drive and determination and his overall disdain for the one called Nykonax. He dedicated every waking moment to proving the dumb dumb Nyko wrong. Shush Nyko was born out of spite and fire but was cooled and tempered into a cold steel of hatred, much like the blade of a sharp skate. This is what drives him and makes him tick. Shush, was no longer going to be Aksel to the outside world. He was reborn into the kid who was and the man who will become Shush Nyko. Every time he hears that name or sees it written in the paper or on the news, then he will remember the doubters. Shush Nyko Now Going into his first years as a teen playing the sport, he was determined to be the best. Shush, dedicated every waking moment to playing the game of hockey. He would stay up late stick handling, shooting against walls, practicing his eye hand coordination, and generally watching the game. He studied the great and learned from them. Every time his dad went out ice fishing young Shush would go out and skate and stick handle. Eventually he found himself in more competitive organized leagues. This is where he really started to hone his skills. He would sit on the ice for long hours sniping corner or skating laps, well into the darkness. Young Aksel was dead, he was now Shush Nyko and nobody could take this fire away from him. International Competition Shush’s first big break came from a U14 International tournament where he could play against the best. Playing against kids in Scandinavia and Europe was great before, but this time he would get to see his skill against Americans and Canadians. Shush was ready to tell Nyko just how wrong he was. Little did he know that guy was going to be present. During the last round robin game, he saw the dumb face of Nykonax in the crowd and it enraged him. He went on to score a hat trick and at the end of the game he laughed in Nykonax’s red face. He knew he had won, when the announcer was up there announcing Shush Nyko as the 1st star of the game. The rest of the tournament went well, and he impressed a lot of the international scouts. This is where he got the courage and pressure to make the jump to the big stage and join the VHLM draft this year and see how he stacks up to the rest of the competition. Looking Forward Never Back Shush Nyko is hoping to look forward to a really successful career in both the Victory Hockey League Minors and the Victory Hockey League. He is entering the draft soon and is hoping that a team who really wants him picks him as he will be a great contributor right away. Shush has made hockey his life and is hoping to be rewarded by doing that. He knows he still has a bit to learn. Shush is hoping that he can go to a team that is willing to let him rip shots at the net but that is also ok with him making mistakes. Though, he has shown at a young age to be a very defensively reliable winger. Beyond Victory Hockey League, Shush hopes to be able to continue to compete for his country and his area of birth. This is quite important to him, since this is the area that raised him and that allowed him to flush. Of course, Shush is also hoping to do all of this in spite of the Nykonax, who has doubted him at every turn and corner. One day he will be inducted in the Hall of Fame as Shush Nyko and the world will forever tell the tale of the man Nyko who was once so stupid as to doubt how amazing Aksel really was. Beyond hockey, Shush hopes to have a family and settle down in Iceland, much like his parents did. He wants to stay connected to his family and his area. He would like to stay in Europe long term as this is his home, but he understands that the sport will make him go where he goes, but that is ok. He will play hard for anyone who shows a desire to have him.
  8. 1) Since it's not been too long since you've joined the league, what are thoughts on the league so far as a whole? At first, the site was a bit confusing, especially being used to other sim leagues, but the community has been good and I am enjoying meeting some new people and all the Shushing of Nyko that is going on, is astounding. 2) Are there any areas in the league that you would like to see a change/improvement? I am not familiar enough with the league yet to really make that call. Maybe have less Nyko? Is that possible? 3) The VHLM Newsletter launched earlier this week, did you read it and was it helpful to you? I have not read it and nor am I even really aware of what it is, perhaps I will go and read it now and check out more of what this site has to offer. One question, does Nyko write for it, cause that would be a detriment. 4) What are your aims this season in the VHLM? Shush Nyko is going to be the greatest in the world and go down in history as the best. He will Shush all the Nykos and win. 5) With the teams starting to take shape, who do you consider to be the favourite for the VHLM Founders Cup? Is is ok to say whatever team drafts me? They will be forever known as the best team the league has ever seen. If not them, well I'd have to say San Diego is a good city and they should win. 6c) If a GM were to make you an offer, what kind of player would they be getting? (If you're currently unaffiliated). A hard working, fast player, with good hands and a laser for a shot. I will be around the net a lot looking to get those goals.
  9. Shush Nyko LW – 6’ – 220 – 16 years old Shush Nyko was born in Reykjavik, Iceland. His game is centered around being light on his feet and has a sniper of a shot. He likes to set up on the wing and blast pucks at the net. He is also very defensively responsible so this should help him develop his game quicker. STRENGTHS Shot: Shush has a big slap shot and a very quik wrist shot. He is hyper accurate with this and can pinpoint exact spots in the net. He likes to shoot and has worked this part of his game a ton. He loves to shoot and can always be seen working on this part of his game. He is developing a stronger shot as this can fail him at times. His wrist shot is very lethal and has the ability to score at will. This will come in handy and hopefully he will provide a decent scoring bump to any team. Positioning: He is a very defensive responsible winger; he has been working on his defensive game in order to make sure is in the right place at the right time during the game. He may never be a top defensive player, but he is typically in the right place. You won’t have to worry about him being in the wrong spot out there. Look for him to work well on the powerplay and the penalty kill. This could help him get ice time and experience quickly in his career. Skating: A strong skater but doesn’t have elite level speed yet. Could develop into elite level speed but that remains to be seen. He has great lateral movement and agility and can get out of tough spots on the ice with his acceleration. Look for him to build on this movement and speed and hope he can develop this. WEAKNESS Checking: Not very strong and not very physical. He has good size but doesn’t love to put his body into opposing players. This won’t hurt him until he makes the move to the big league, then he will need to put his good size to good use. Passing: While this isn’t a weakness per say he is definitely more of a shot first player and passing is secondary in his mind. He doesn’t look for the pass, as he tends to want to shoot, but will if the opportunity arises. Strength: This ties into the checking weakness. Being over 6 feet tall, he should be a bit stronger on the puck, but can get pretty easily bounced off the puck at times. He has a physical presence but has not developed the physical nature or side of his game yet. With his size scouts are hoping that this physicality will come with time. Shush Nyko is looking to make waves and develop into a grade A prospect but that still remains to be seen. If he can develop on some of his weak points then he could be a star in the making.
