I remember we started with a friendly game against New Zealand because they are nice and close. I had just come off a dominant season playing on my state squad. But I knew that talent wasn’t the kind I was supposed to be playing with, that’s what made me so excited to play against New Zealand I would finally be able to test myself against top tier competition. The team flew over in our new Australian uniforms and the team was very confident with heaps of player making the jump to the VHLM the team was very confident in their chances. Unfortunately, was a little immature I had a major disagreement with the coach about the rules on no night life, like I said I was immature. Well in the end the coach sat me for the first half, and Australian was in for a rude awakening as New Zealand dominated the first half moving to a score of 3-0 and the Australian spirt was absolutely crushed. Then I got my chance on the ice I played on the right wing catching the puck I faked left then headed right before finding the back of the goal. I was only able to bring that game to a 3-3 draw but this was just the start of my dream national team journey.

1.) What do you think of our play so far? A: I am happy with what I’m doing, but I’m always hungry to improve I don't think I’ll ever truly be happy until I’ve become the best player I can be. I’m most proud of my assist numbers I love supporting my team. 2.) What do you plan on improving next? A: My puck handling and skating, to me they kind of come tighter as I wouldn’t want to improve one and ignore the other. 3.) Who on the team has impressed you the most so far? A: Emil Passerelli he is such a good player and exactly the kind of player I want to become, I admire how confident he is at scoring. 4.) What is the goal you've set for yourself this season? A: I want to try and make 10 goals and 10 assists, if I can do that considering a slow start, I will be very happy with my play. 5.) How do you feel you've done so far this season? A: I think with the team I have preformed well; we have a plan and we are working to that plan to become a better player. I have the support of the staff and my teammates so I cant be doing that badly. 6.) Are you excited for the NHL to start? A: Yes super excited to watch some Hockey. -
Journal Entry #1 Hey everyone as part of trying to increase the popularity of VHL in Australia I am teaming up with Hockey Australia to create some journal entries about my awesome experience in the VHML. So, I guess I’ll start with a quik recap, after playing Hockey with the Australian Junior National team I was given an opportunity at Halifax 21st to grow as a player and move towards the VHL. I am very excited to be apart of this organisation and am dedicated to become the best player I can be. Introduction I’ll start by talking a little bit about the journey here, after entering the VHML I was a little nervous that I would end up in a location I wouldn’t be able to thrive in, but luckily, I was taken in by the perfect origination. The team has given me full confidence to become the best player I can. We have a set plan that we follow to make the best player in the VHML. My favourite thing about Halifax is how they impower their players, through press conferences I feel like Halifax is given me all the opportunities to promote my name to both teams and fans. Now ill talk a little about my experiences playing in the VHML. Offence After 12 games I have scored 2 goals and assisted on 6, I’m playing well but I can definitely improve, moving forward I’m working on my skating and puck handling to create more opportunities to create more opportunities for me and my team members. I’m still adjusting to the VMHL the amount of games is like nothing I have ever done, after a bit more condition work, I should unlock a new level of play. Defence Defence has always been my weakness; over the season I have a -3 and if you didn’t include my play on the offensive end this would be even worse. Play in the VHML is on a level I have never experienced before; every player is as good or better than me and I’m always learning from them to try and improve, I’m always trying to win and if Halifax wants to win then I have to improve on that aspect of my game. Overall So far, I’m happy with how I’ve been playing but I have never been someone that is willing to accept mediocre. I push for amazing that’s why I’m in the gym with the Halifax trainers working to improve my game. Halifax has gone out to a 6 - 6 record and I know we can do better than that the entire team is working relentlessly to improve. Speaking of that I really want to thank the staff of Halifax for giving me this chance to prove myself, I’m not going to allow that gamble to me a failure. That’s why I’m working on my skating and puck handling, against lesser comp in Australia I could take advantage of a natural speed but against the better talent in the VHML then I have to improve my intangibles to use my athleticism. My best skill is finding and creating a hole in the defence and improving my skating will let me attack those holes. My goal is to become the best player at Halifax and that’s not a slight at my teammates if anything it’s a compliment at how good of players they are. 565 words.

Name: Ben Storm Position: RW Height: 6' 3" Weight: 180 lb Age: 20 Nationality: Australia Handiness: Right Ben Storm discovered by VHLM scouts after showing promise in his stint with the National Junior Australian Hockey team. Ben Storm is a showman with the puck having an excellent feel for the game Storm expertly attacks defences creating shots for himself and his teammates. Without a strong body Storm prefers to create by being slithering finding holes and skating through using his blistering speed. Strengths: Scoring Storm's offensive IQ along with his stick skills allows him to control play in the offensive zone, reading opposing defences Storm is an expert at finding a way to will his puck into the goals. Storm controls the game through his scoring. Passing: Storm uses his knowledge of opposing defences and his scoring talent to make the defence react then find the open man. Storm has a cerebral knowledge of the game almost knowing where the other players will go before, they do. His passing skills are great at opening up the floor for his scoring. Puck Handling: Storm's ability to move the puck is world class, his innate knowledge of how the puck will move allows Strom to go places other players on the ice simply cant. Finding new holes to exploit Strom rushes through them with dashing puck skills before finding the goal or a teammate. Weaknesses: Strength: Storm's most obvious weakness his thin frame, Storm struggles to hold his position against stronger players, commonly getting pushed from his spots Storm can be put of his game if his opportunities are denied early. Checking: Both Storms checks and discipline can be lacking. Through possessing a strong handle of the puck Storm lacks the ability to gain the puck from opposing players. Storm lacks the body to body check, as mentioned before scouts have raised the problem the Storms checking weakness might be a focus problem more a talent problem. Discipline: Storm has been characterised as being rather aloof sometimes making rash decisions without considering the outcome. Sometimes while on the ice Storm seems to become disinterested if not handling the puck often. Overall: Storm is a very gifted Australian scorer possessing a great natural affinity for scoring the puck. But Storm has been hit with massive criticism about his love for the game; sometimes looking disinterested on the floor becoming disinterred if not consistently not touching the puck. Even through the criticism Storm’s talent is obvious displaying a other worldly ability to send the puck through the net. Storm’s obvious talent will be maximised in the Halifax system, growing into a solid player on the RW in the VHLM. Scout’s Opinions: “If his attitude question is answered and he deflates his ego to become part of a team, Storm will be an excellent VHLM player.” – The Athlete “I have heard the questions about his attitude, but he has played under me I have no question about his love for the game, he is a winning player who is always focused on winning” -Oliver, Australian Junior National Team Coach

Ben Strom hailing from the land down under has recently finished his first week in Halifax and has given us a quik comment on his experiences. “At the start it was kind of challenging, the time difference between Australia and up here is huge which made it really hard to talk to my friends and family. But we figured out a routine that doesn’t affect my sleep schedule so that issue been resolved. In terms of playing the sticks this has been an awesome week, hockey isn’t the most popular sport in Australia their wasn’t much challenge while playing in my hometown (Melbourne) and even in national championships only a few players could keep up with me; but not in Halifax playing against my team mates has been an eye opening experience we have some really talented players and it has really helped me improve my game even in this week.” Speaking of teammates how has Halifax made you feel welcome? “As soon as I arrived off the plane people were stopping and greeting me asking how my day was, it was great. But I can’t tell if they knew I play hockey or they are just Canadian. My teammates and staff members have been exceptional at making me feel welcome.”

1.) How was the draft experience for you? A: It was an amazing experience, going into it I was incredibly nervous, I know I have game but I haven’t had many opportunities to show it off. Luckily, I was found by the staff at Halifax that really believe in me and I’m really excited to put in the work and go far with this team. 2.) Where were you projecting yourself to go? A: Honestly, I had conflicting reports some people projected me to go a lot higher but I was also hearing that I might only come in right at the bottom. I ended up in a place I am comfortable and would want to have gone anywhere else. 3.) What do you think of Halifax so far? A: I’m blown away. Fellow players and staff have been super helpful with me adjusting and have already had players offering to work with me and help me work on my game the otehr teams should be scared of what Halifax will do this season. 4.) For those who don't know, what type of player do you intend to become? A: Hailing from Australia I was called the Bomber because I send smokers through the net. Playing on the right wing (RW) my main focus is winning and scoring. For me team success is my main goal and always my first priority when taking the ice. 5.) What do you think we can achieve in Halifax this season? A: Sky is the limit for this team, everyone I’ve met so far have been super helpful and that kind of team first mindset leads to winning 100% of the time. But I think the Cup is a goal everyone on this team is looking at. 6.) Who is your favourite NHL player and team? A: Jamie Benn, Dallas Stars -
