Hello, below is the overall ranking of all 102 users that participated in VHFL in S81. Tagged the top 50 and then got lazy, congrats if you did well. Better luck next season if you didn't! 2021 was a pretty chaotic year to start with, and then just sort of kept going that way. I'm sure we'll all be happy to put 2021 out of our memories, but there are some things I really enjoyed in 2021 especially in regards to the VHL. 1. Getting the Moscow GM position I had to go and double check the job interviews section to make sure this was even a 2021 occurrence because I feel like I've been in the position for longer than just a mere year. But no, the job opened up on March 6th, and it's been a great year at the helm of the organization that drafted me in 2020. I had the privilege to meet and interact with so many phenomenal people, listen to such diverse experiences, and build a small community of good people. I think my new year's resolution for the VHL would be to draft more first-gens, I feel like I've only been drafting recreates and missing out on the potential to meet newer faces, so I'll try to do that a bit more in the future so that Hatter isn't trapped on Moscow for the rest of his sim league life. 2. Getting to "officially" run VHFL I'm a spreadsheet nerd and VHFL is like.....the digital version of Valkyrae. I simp for both. I'd been involved in VHFL since Twists left in S73, but always from behind the scenes and exclusively on the calculation and results portion of it. I'd suggest some improvements, but it was up to the manager to implement. Now as the manager, I enjoy being able to feel like I'm not stepping on toes, and that I can easily implement solutions to issues people have mentioned for a while. Nerd shit, but it's nice. 3. The people Some of you are cool, some of you are the opposite of cool. Regardless, I'm grateful to everyone in the community for the role they play, it's a nice league to be in and I'm always excited to see how the community shapes the league moving forward into the future.

There used to be some sort of mutual understanding of trade value of capped players back when I was an M GM. Apparently that's gone away, and capped players are simply worth pennies. You can't want to be competitive and want capped players, while in the same breath saying capped players have no value because they'll be gone after the season. Someone needs to step in and figure this shit out because it looks horrendous. I also can't believe certain people have the gall to go onto a podcast and explicitly shit talk their co-workers. And that's what you are in the VHLM, co-workers, because your win-loss record as a GM doesn't mean jack shit. You're all working together to give the players in the league the best experience possible, but it seems like all anyone cares about now is their own success. I would have thought the people who recorded that podcast would have known a bit better than to straight up flame VHLM GM's. Did you really think that was a good idea?

Junior Showcase GM and AGM Announcement!!!
Spartan replied to Alex's topic in VHLM Team Announcements
hey that's me! -
I'll admit I'm a little disappointed in the outcome, and that I feel the punishment was levied based on the rule that was broken and not the severity of the infraction. I understand that being in a GM job means you're getting to a higher standard though, so I'll accept it as fair and hope this is the precedent moving forward. Congrats to Bubbles for getting bumped up to GM! He definitely would have been my top choice to move into the role and I'm glad AJ gets to stick around as the team's AGM. Both of them have created a great environment in LVA and I'm thrilled they get to keep it going together, albeit in different roles. AJ better get Vegas when he's back to being the top candidate for an M job in the future

I've mentioned in the past that a lot of these "VHL has a problem" articles feel like knee-jerk reactions to isolated incidents and are then made out to be larger issues than they really are. Maybe for the multi account thing, I can agree that it is actually a decently large issue if we have 3 or 4 infractions caught at the same time after a decent period of the activity going on. I was more concerned in those situations about how often the moderation team checks for IPs if that is part of their job description, and how we can try and make an account level rule more prominent. It's not asking for a gigantic shift in cheating policies, a complete lack of toleration, or on the flip side - no punishments at all. But for some reason that's what the community "knee-jerk" reaction has been. A decent amount of people are either trying to move on as quickly as possible from a serious infraction, or calling for heads to roll and permanent bans from the league. The locker room ownership/staff presence discussion might be another one to add to your list, as it was also a knee-jerk reaction to the Matty situation. I thought Dil was involved in another instance of rage-quitting and not handing off an LR, but turns out it wasn't the case. So we only have the one instance of an LR getting nuked (after already getting punished btw) and there was a long discussion around the community (and yes, I know it was not a "we're going to be doing this" for when a staff member interjects) about either having moderators own locker rooms and/or having moderators or some level of staff with moderation powers with full view access over all LR's. Sometimes I feel like activity and the "reputation" we hold in the league revolves around how many rules or precedents we can get our fingerprints on. That being an active, contributing member is no longer defined as a person who earns TPE and posts on the forums and is active on Discord to be part of the community, but someone who actively tries to spark change in the league. Like constant activism, and frankly, it's getting dull. Even when thinking about my own activity, I feel like I've spent more time participating in these "how can we make ___ better" or "is ____ an issue" discussions over the past month or two, and haven't spent as much time enjoying the actual purpose of this league which is the spreadsheet hockey and to have a good time with people who share an interest in that spreadsheet hockey. There's been more discussion around the league about a rulebook called the CoC than addressing competitive issues in the league. We added the VHLE in the middle of the M and VHL, but we didn't tweak ELC's to factor in that most players will lose a season of rookie salary tier eligibility to the VHLE. We didn't tweak salary brackets or the VHL salary cap either even though the average TPA has gone up, and I'm sure I can run the math if someone wants to question that. But players used to come in at a 200-250 floor, now they have to be at least 350 TPA, there's a clear increase at the bottom level of the salary bracket tier that hasn't been addressed or fixed. Why? Because we're too busy trying to overcomplicate what it means to be a decent person. It'll be two seasons now after the emergence of the fully exploitive meta and I haven't heard any rumblings of potential tweaks to attempt to resolve the problem, even just a step to alleviate the issue. I've been yelling about all of this competitive stuff and salary stuff for a bit and it feels like it doesn't matter because we're collectively too concerned about moderation and punishments. I've got my own issues with them but fuck, people. Is this all our league is about now?

The VHL Goalie Dilemma: Team by Team
Spartan replied to CowboyinAmerica's topic in Archived Media Spots
I know it definitely must have looked odd when we signed Rara, but we made sure to have Bek's blessing before doing it. If he wanted to be the starter and felt ready to lead us to the playoffs, we wouldn't have signed Rara at all and would have just rolled with Papa. But Bek agreed and we made the finals, think we even tried to squeeze in some extra starts for Papa to get some stat padding going on. Good article, glad Moscow has a decent goalie future ahead of us unlike some other teams -
I expect to see Kovalchuk off Seattle by the end of his ELC then
-
I think I got a Tier 2 in the VHL birthday one, but this nhl 22 thing is definitely the highest value raffle I've ever won lol. Thanks for the opportunity and glad it came from doing good things for the world.
-
goal was to 30 tpe from draft to HOF challenge but accidentally got too involved and ended up max earning from the start lol
-
I feel like we have a shared IP thread for people in the same household to declare it when they create but I can't find it, so maybe I saw it in some other league. Maybe we need one of those now. So yeah, hence why the stuff relating to at the least, account creation, should be at the top of a rulebook that gets sent to a user at creation. Making an account is the first thing someone does when joining the league, seems only natural they learn the restrictions when it comes to what all you can do with accounts. Yeah, think we can all agree Kachur was a fucked up dude and leave it at that.
-
Maybe part of what I should have also conveyed is the diversity of punishments used. Probation for league positions, PT bans, removal of job pay, temporary hiring ban from league jobs - instead of using weeks of TPE bans and/or a forum/discord suspension. From my perspective, the severity of what AJ and Alexandre did were vastly different, but both got 3 weeks TPE ban and AJ may lose his job. That's more of my concern, keep suspending conduct offenders from the league, no issues with that. Not advocating for it to not be its own post, but I think we need to make it more aware because I've seen a decent amount of "I didn't read the CoC because I'm not a dick" or versions of that. And I still question if cheating rules should be in CoC. absolutely, and same, idk what is in that welcome message and if its been updated at all recently - it should be though not ominous at all, can we get a 3rd person to moderate?
-
ftfy, agreed with everything else you said
-
Also as a disclaimer so it doesn't get interpreted that way, not advocating for or claiming that conduct issues are more or less severe than cheating. Both are wrong. Both are unacceptable. We do need to maybe look at whether the solution to any issue, whether it's harassment, or making multis, is simply "you can't claim tpe for 3 or 4 weeks" with some sprinkles on top of either job loss if the offending person has a job or a temporary ban. There should be a more representative punishment to the severity of the infraction, and vastly different infractions shouldn't receive the same punishment. Idk if I was clear in what I meant in the podcast (highly doubt it) but that's what I basically wanted to convey with more thought to the actual infraction. And also who is responsible for different aspects of the league's rules.
-
Hey it's a fun Dr. Strange reference! Enjoy the shitty intro attempt using his theme, and I spent like 20 seconds editing it in so appreciate my effort. I will not entertain criticism. Small warning that shit can get dark, I reference dark stuff that came up in conversations with Kachur/Horcrux Mentions: @Shindigs (piggybacked on a rulebook related post of yours), @samx (briefly), @N0HBDY (decent amount), @fishy (really briefly but mod related stuff so figured you may want to listen) and Fong but he won't listen so won't tag. Topics: Multis Moderation Kachur/Horcrux Rule visibility and enforcement domain (confusing, but hard to summarize into a topic list) One week of claim if I even claim it. Edit: I also sniffle a lot, it's cold, leave me alone

A Man Above Others, What Causes Their Success?
Spartan replied to N0HBDY's topic in Archived Media Spots
I'm not giving this a media spot response, but I would imagine someone who consistently posts podcasts with years of vhl experience and a wide perspective of the league would receive more engagement than those who post inconsistently and don't really rock the boat in their content as Jardy does. He does it well, and he's passionate about podcasting. That's all you need to get listeners imo. -
Don't think anyone is necessarily against the fact that there was a punishment, I'm just more confused how making 6 multis has the same punishment as updating a couple players for a month. Maybe the mods can see or determine at what point AJ started updating for the other accounts, but I'd think that if it was more recent as he claims, it isn't *as bad* as what Alexandre did. The family members are free to use their players once their ban ends but the Alexandre multis are getting yeeted from the league. Much more of a wide ranging impact to the community than AJ's recently turned IA family members getting a tpe ban. If they're IA, most of them will still be useful players for some E teams, but their teams still keep those players. Add on top that AJ is temporarily suspended from his GM job and at risk of losing his job completely while Alexandre has been kept on as AGM and has the avenue to redemption as stated by mods. It seems a bit hypocritical. Yes, AGM's have no pay and aren't a league appointed job, but to a team, they are the #2 in command, have portal powers, and exert a similar level of influence as the GM on the players on the team. It just seems like AJ was slapped harder for a less severe infraction, which is what some folks disagree with. Not advocating for AJ to not get punished.
-
Regardless of whether you choose to max earn again or not, I enjoyed the couple of seasons of casually/informally competing against you for most TPE in our draft class . Do what you gotta do to make sure the league doesn't become a chore, hope you don't fade away. Send music recs pls and ty.

The Article I Was Going to Write, and Why I'm Not Writing It
Spartan replied to Gustav's topic in VHL.com Articles
This is actually a pretty interesting point that I called out from a different perspective - moreso the timing of recruitment and how it puts strain on our existing structure. As M GM's, we'd complain when there'd be a recruitment push that was between the end of the regular season and the M draft. I don't think it's been as large an issue recently, but I feel like there was a recruitment event a couple seasons ago that brought in players when playoffs were starting up. The issue we had this past season was that we had another large and successful recruitment ad on youtube right as we decided to contract the VHLM. It didn't make sense to me that we were going to try and get an influx of new players right after contracting the M, especially on a large channel. I don't know if I'd say that the goal is to keep the league size constant, sustainable growth is good for the league. I just think that maybe we need to be coordinating recruitment and league structure changes together instead of as two separate entities. As long as we aren't running the recruitment well dry, and we have the capacity to make room for everyone (which we have in the form of 3 leagues), I have no issue with growing the league size. As always though, we can't kneejerk react with EXPANSION every time we have a surge of new members, hence the need for more intentional and cautious recruiting. -
Claim 2/2
