  1. 1. A little bummed out, but if we wanted to move on, we needed to play better. 2. Hopefully we can increase scoring without sacrificing our good defense. 3. Making sure we have contracts, prospects, and draft picks structured in a way so that we will have long term success, rather than going all-in on a single season. 4. DC beat us, so obviously it's going to be them. 5. Drinking. Same as in the regular season, except with less hockey. 6. See you next season. Thanks for coming to the arena and buying $13 beers that pay my salary.
  2. Late to the party on this one, missed when it was posted. 1. Was feeling good about the team heading into the playoffs, but worried that we might not have the firepower to contend with some of the teams that seem like they can score at will. 2. Good looks and suave charm. 3. Crippling alcoholism. 4. Klamasteris. You never win a championship without a solid 'tendy. 5. Win it all, or at least go deep. 6. Definitely had hoped to score a little bit more, and be a little bit more positive on the plus/minus. But our entire team seemed to have some difficulty scoring this year, so I'll settle for tight responsible defensive play.
  3. 2021-08-22 Podcast - Listen on Spotify I talk about how little I know about the VHL awards, why I don't care about individual awards all that much, and why none of my teammates are probably going to get any individual hardware this season.
  4. 1. Steady as she goes, I think the team is primed right now, and should be for a few more seasons, no need to rock the boat right now. 2. Approach it like a pro, go out there, skate hard, have fun. 3. Tallinder's idea to have some sort of weekly announcement highlighting some of the best user-created content. 4. Bit of a goaltending shakeup, but mostly I think it has been juggling the lineup a little to bit to see who clicks. 5. Enjoy it, because you never know when/if you'll be back. 6. If I have the puck, I'm passing all day.... but I'm also going to be ready just in case the other guy gets cute and sends a one-touch pass back my way.
  5. 1. Saskatoon, both because it was where I played in the minors, and I also have a real-life family connection there. 2. Our team identity is "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts". We're not a top-heavy team with a bunch of plugs on the bottom line, we're a team that is pretty balanced up and down the lineup. Also, defense wins championships (I hope). 3. Absolutely. We're 2 points back (although with one more game played). 4. Real good. Our team's problems come from a lack of scoring, defense and goaltending have been excellent. 5. Yes absolutely, although as a high TPE center, ice-time is pretty much a sure thing. But I don't care if I get PP time or whatever, I just want wins. 6. Switching to light beer during the dog days of the season. Got to stay light on my feet.
  6. 1. I came to VHLfrom PBE, and while there are some things I like better about VHL (the website and updating), the big advantage that PBE has is having a graphical sim where everyone can get together and "watch" a lot of the games on Twitch. I know that STHS has no such option, but maybe once or twice per week have a "featured" game that is simmed line-by-line, shift-by-shift or however it works in STHS to make viewing the sim a bit more of a spectacle. 2. If there are good "league news" articles that talk about the standings, current performances, stuff like that, without being specifically about a user or team, have them highlighted on the website. Sort of a "sportscenter" of the VHL. 3. Stuff like this right here, this suggestion thread. I am by no means a max earner, and it is a rare week lately that I do every single available task, but whenever an unusual one-off task like this one comes around, I always participate. I'm not entirely certain why, but it does squeeze a little bit more activity out of me.
  7. In the off-season, the Calgary Wranglers and Helsinki Titans, two teams at different stages of competitiveness, exchanged some highly valuable assets. Calgary paid a fairly high price (a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick, and a conditional 3rd round pick) for the privilege of acquiring elite winger Dan Dan. The offensively gifted Swede had put up a total of 170 points through his first three seasons in the league, all with Helsinki, and he showed right away why the Calgary management was so eager to acquire him. In the absence of Andrew Su, Calgary's top offensive weapons in Nathan Perry and Luke Thornton would have had to shoulder a heavy load, but Dan has exploded into the team, showing that he can produce anywhere in the top 6 with 10 goals and 13 assists for a team leading 23 points through 20 games, and while also having far fewer penalty than any of the players playing similar minutes. The Wranglers are not a high scoring team, but Dan Dan is proving to be a big part of their ability to play clean two-way hockey, stifle the opposition's offense, and make the most of their chances. 198 words
  8. 1. Could be better, could be worse. Feels like we're not getting blown out ever, we're always competitive even in our losses. 2. The whole league feels pretty tight this year, but I like our chances. 3. Taking my family out into the woods to LARP as homeless people (camping). 4. It used to be Phil Johnson but we got in trouble for being hungover too many times the next day, so I think they've got me bunking with Dan Dan now. 5. Scotland. I feel that between soccer, golf, and curling, you could find some young lads to play hockey. 6. It looks the way vinegar tastes.
  9. I will fucking fight you
  10. Actually I just realized....you are the dylan of VHL.
  11. Probably the greatest media piece I've ever read in any sim league. I award this infinity/10.
  12. G - Sirkants Klamasteris @Banackock take us home
  13. F - Steve Eso @Lilpfigher
  14. D - Tom Eagles @Banackock
  15. D - Battre Sandstrom Which makes my team so far F - Aloe Dear F - Nathan Perry F - D - Battre Sandstrom D - G - @Lilpfigher
  16. F - Nathan Perry @Banackock
  17. 1. Clapping bombs and nailing moms, same as always 2. Uhhh...... 2020 I guess? Yep, just checked, August 19, 2020. I'm coming up on my first VHLiversary! 3. A case of beer, but more importantly, someone to help me drink it. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't like birthday gifts, what I want is to spend time with the people that I care about. 4. You can howl with the wolves at night, but you still have to work with the dogs in the morning. 5. Trading Steve Eso, that guy was dead weight. 6. Either a screened deflection, or an in-close deke after your defensemen turn the puck over.
  18. Eso could really use 14 uncapped TPE because his player sucks
  19. I don't even remember what I talked about. TIE-Fighter, tawny sherry, and my good friend @Ricer13 I guess
  20. F - Aloe Dear @Lilpfigher
  21. @Phil is the best user in the VHL and I will fight anyone that disagrees.
  22. 1. Crushing beers and hitting the beach, same as always. 2. Good for them, though I don't know their team that well. I just didn't want to see the same team win it again. 3. Yep, I watched a ton of the Euros. The final was a pretty entertaining game, and though I'm not a huge fan of the penalty shootout (in soccer or in hockey), it was an exciting finish. 4. A big bottle of rye, just what the doctor ordered. 5. I think it's so hard to project 2-3 seasons out what we'll need, so I'd rather just take BPA. 6. 82-0, championship.
  23. 1. Pretty good! We definitely earned a playoff berth this season. 2. In tough against the defending champs, but anything can happen in the playoffs. 3. Playoff beards are happening for sure 4. Winning the championship in Chicago as a rookie 5. Don't take too many penalties, and try to really prevent Seattle's offense from gaining any momentum. 6. Chicago is the tougher opponent, but I also have some history with them so that would be a fun matchup.
