  1. 1. I’m a big fan of both trades. Our front office hasn’t failed us yet and I have full faith in them. 2. Absolutely. That’s a heck of a duo up top! 3. I’d trade any of our starters for 15 first round picks and not a penny less. That’s how good our players are! 4. I’m not sure I see much overshadowing, but it does add a cool element. 5. I haven’t checked officially, but I bet I’ve set a career high in hits taken. Anything to help the team win! 6. I want to utterly dominate every game we play.
  2. When you're the defending champions and currently in first place in the league, there's truly only one rival that can stand up against you - complacency. There's a reason why there's a saying about how it's harder to stay at the top than it is to get to the top. The big reason is that it's difficult to have that necessary competitive edge on a daily basis. So many teams get to the top of the mountain and just run out of gas or get soft. They celebrate their achievements and are happy to rest on their laurels, not wanting or not willing to put it all back on the line to make it happen again. That's currently what we're fighting in Vancouver and it is a daily struggle. Yes, we won a title. Yes, we're atop the table. Yes, it is tempting to downshift and just sort of coast for weeks at a time. But that's when we have to remind ourselves that there's a huge difference between winning one cup and winning multiple. Winning one could be a fluke. Winning one could just be a great run of luck. Winning one could mean the right player got incredibly hot at the right time. But winning that second one? Especially if it's a second in a row? The entire conversation changes. There are whispers of "dynasty". There are talks about front office members having a fast track to the Hall of Fame. And most importantly, there's no discounting that second title. One can be explained away by other teams. But not two. And that's our goal this year in Vancouver, but we face that complacency opponent every single time we look in the mirror. Each night, we get everyone's best shot. We get 110% effort from every opponent night in and night out and if we're not ready? If we've lost that battle with complacency that night? It could get ugly. And that's not what we want for our franchise or our incredible fans. They support us every single game and it's not fair to them if we don't put our best foot forward on the ice every single night. Now, we're not perfect and we let complacency get the better of us from time to time, but we have to continue to keep that monster at bay, especially with the playoffs right around the corner. Humility is a game away and if we let the complacency demon get us, we could be looking at a first round exit and draw the ire of all of Wolves nation. It's a constant battle, but the run we went on last season gave us the boost we need this year to fend it off as best we can. We saw what working hard every day could result in. How exuberant we all were. How every fan celebrated for days on end after we won. We know what's at stake and we know that it will all be worth it if we bring it home again. All those late nights, all that hard work, all those daily battles with complacency. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel and we know what's waiting for us. We just have to finish the drill.
  3. What started as an exciting trip to Super Bowl LVII turned into an absolute nightmare for Dogwood Maple. From his in-season home in Vancouver, Maple first flew to Las Vegas for a quick weekend getaway. "Things were going great at first. I got hot at Caesars Palace and won a couple grand at the blackjack tables. I figured that was a good omen for the rest of the trip, but I could not have been more wrong," Maple explained. After Vegas, Maple hopped on a quick flight to Phoenix for some pre-game festivities in and around State Farm Stadium. "I have a couple of close friends on both teams so they let me go out on the field before the game, tour the locker rooms, and everything like that. They were also kind enough to give me a field pass during the game so I was able to hang out on both sidelines throughout the back-and-forth game. And what a game it was. Always great to be on the field for one of those games that comes down to the wire, to almost the last second of the game. Just an incredible time. But that's where the fun ended," Maple said. After the game ended, Maple was set to get a ride back to Phoenix and his hotel room, so his agent ordered him a ride. But apparently, the driver not only got lost, but accidentally picked up someone who was not Dogwood Maple. "I don't know if the driver just got turned around or what, but he just picked up some random fan and took them back to their hotel. Which is fine, stuff like that happens, so after waiting for an hour we booked another ride for me back to my hotel. Fortunately, I actually got picked up, but there was a miscommunication on where I was going," Maple said. Maple was staying at the Hilton Phoenix, but was dropped off at the Hilton Phoenix Chandler, 26 miles away. "I told the driver that we were headed the wrong way, be he assured me that he had it right. So when we got to the Hilton Phoenix Chandler, he was so sure that he told me to go ahead and check in because he had another pickup and he couldn't wait. But when I went to the front desk, they confirmed my fears that I was supposed to be at another property," Maple told us. But that's when @Frankcame in handy. The trusty Vancouver GM has a contact in the helicoptering community who was all to happy to help out. Maple had to make his way to the roof of the hotel and await pickup in the helicopter. "I'd never ridden in a helicopter before, so I was a little scared. I made sure I was buckled in tight and was white-knuckle-gripping one of the side handles. But luckily everything went fine....for a while. There was a sudden updraft and we started spinning wildly out of control, causing one of the back doors to fly open which flung all my luggage out the side. And you know what was in my luggage? You guessed it: my wallet," Maple said. After making an emergency landing some 5 miles from his actual destination, Maple was too shaken up to get back in a vehicle so he walked to the hotel. He tried to check in, but the front desk demanded an ID, which he did not have. "Luckily someone in the lobby recognized me and vouched that I was who I said I was and they let me check-in. Definitely not how I planned the trip, but I'm just glad I made it safe and sound."
  4. 1. There isn't one in particular, but I'm going to take a long look this offseason to see how I can improve. 2. I think defense. The goals will come, but being able to shut down the opponent is a huge plus. 3. I would LOVE to sign a sponsorship with a luxury car company! 4. Probably when I scored my first VHL goal. That's when I felt like I really belonged. 5. I'm definitely a Ravenclaw, zero doubt 6. They...use sticks?
  5. 1. I absolutely did! I knew that the coaching staff would put us in the best position to be successful this season. 2. After spending ice-time with them, I'm not at all surprised. Incredible talent! 3. I think our current MVP has to be our front office. They made some really key moves to keep us successful. 4. 10! We're lucky to have them 5. Most impressive attribute has been our camaraderie. We all play really well together 6. uhh....centers?
  6. On the heels of another strong performance this week, Vancouver Wolves' forward Dogwood Maple has inked another sponsorship. According to his agent, Maple recently signed an exclusive endorsement deal with Delta Airlines. "I'm thrilled to join the Delta community. Especially being from Atlanta originally, it means a lot to sign on with the world's premier airline. But I have to say, as excited as I am I think my family is even more pumped," Maple said with a chuckle. "They're already hitting me up for flights for upcoming vacations. I'm sure we can work something out," Maple said. In addition to flight perks, Maple will also appear in Delta television commercials and have his face plastered on billboards and other ad space around airports across North America. "Apparently Delta went ahead and installed one of the huge advertising billboards in Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport back home before I even told my family. So I got a call from my sister who was flying to New York City with my niece and nephew freaking out, in a good way. They all thought it was really funny that there was a 20 foot picture of Uncle Dogwood at the airport. Apparently my nephew tried to draw a big mustache on me but he couldn't quite reach it," Maple said. When asked if this new ad campaign would distract from his on-ice performance, the Wolves' center was adamant that it would not. "It's just a few hours every now and again with a lot of it coming in the offseason. It's really not a huge time commitment so it won't have any negative impact on my play. Trust me, if I thought for one second that it would hurt our franchise by even an inch, I wouldn't do it. No amount of money in the world is worth turning my back on my teammates, my coaches, and my front office," Maple explained. There's also a bit of a rivalry brewing in the Vancouver locker room, however. There are unconfirmed anonymous reports that another player on the team will soon be signing a deal with Southwest Airlines. "I heard about that and honestly I hope it's true. That means that one of my teammates is making some more money for him and his family, so I'm all for it. Will there be a little bit of a casual rivalry in the locker room? Of course, but it's all good. We're all trying to have productive careers here so we know the drill. I did come into the training facility with a bunch of Southwest flyers all over my locker. They put a bunch of stuff in there bragging about how Southwest was ranking #1 in this category or that or pieces dissing Delta. I got a good kick out of it and I'll definitely have to repay the favor once the other news breaks. We're all really close here so stuff like that is common and honestly helps us on the ice. It's truly like a family here and what family doesn't play bicker every once and a while? Plus, we all know that Delta is obviously the #1 airline in the world. It's not even a question." 533 words
  7. Game 73: Chicago Phoenix vs. Calgary Wranglers When Chicago and Calgary faced off, many expected a close game which was the case for much of this affair. Both teams took advantage of a powerplay in the first period, first with Sax Justice scoring for Calgary and followed up by Bo Johansson for Chicago. There were no other goals in the first period thanks to some elite defense, which continued into the second period as well. Both teams were held scoreless as the third period started, but the floodgates were about to open. Chicago scored a pair of goals in the first few minutes of the final period, thanks to a brace by Kakapo Bushtit. With a 3-1 lead, the Phoenix weren't done, however. They ended any hopes of a Calgary comeback with a final nail in the coffin by Scotty Sundin, making the score 4-1 and giving the Wranglers a nice victory
  8. This week, Dogwood Maple announced his new initiative to plant 1,000,000 trees this season in and around Vancouver. "I figured with two tree names, it only made sense that I tried to give back to the arbor community which gave me so much already," Maple explained. There have been concerns in the Vancouver area about deforestation, drought, and other causes that have seen the local forests decrease by a sizable percentage in the last few years, which spurned Maple on to make this pledge. He's joining with the Vancouver Arborists Association, his sponsor Waffle House, and the entire Vancouver Wolves organization to help put a stop to the current trend. "I know I can't plant all million trees, there's just not enough time. But I want to do as many as I can. This isn't about just delegating the work out to other people or anything like that. I truly enjoy working outdoors and have been a big gardener since I was a boy. So I will be out there every Sunday morning with my shovel and some trees knocking out as many as I possibly can. We've got other players in the organization helping out, too. I even think the owner has volunteered his time to plant some as well, so I have no doubt that we'll be able to get it done. We're also making sure to consult with experts about where to plant and what types of trees to plant. We know the ecosystem needs to stay healthy and balanced, so we've got some PhDs who will be directing us on that," Maple said. This new push for tree growth has also spread around the VHL as well with many other teams and players undertaking similar pledges. "If we could all plant some trees that are appropriate for whatever environment they're in, that would be fantastic. Nature is something we really need to be good shepherds of. We can't take it for granted. And I've even heard of some of the more drought stricken areas in the southwest United States planting some trees that actually can help reverse drought conditions. It's all about doing it the right way with the right guidance going forward. It honestly almost brings a tear to my eye seeing people across the league get excited about planting trees, of all things. It truly shows you the power of humanity and what we can accomplish when we set our minds to something," Maple told a local news station. But that's not all - Vancouver has agreed to pledge $1 million dollars to local environmental causes in this effort, which has been matched by the Wolves' GM, Dogwood Maple himself, and a few other players around the league. "I wanted to put my money where my mouth is. If we get this million tree thing done, I'm throwing in a million dollars to help. We've got the owner on board and some other folks as well. It's just a great cause and something I'm incredibly passionate about. The more folks get involved whether it's time, energy, resources, money, whatever it is, it's useful and needed. No help is too small, that's for sure!" 528 words
  9. 1. Unfortunately I didn't follow it this year, but I have in the past 2. I should absolutely play closer attention to it. I've been busy IRL which hasn't helped 3. I have zero doubt that the McFleurys will be absolutely incredible players for us. 4. Leadership, composure, and toughness. 5. I haven't followed it at all, anybody have the cliffnotes? 6. Shelob?

  11. What a run! I'm so incredibly proud of our players, our coaches, our front office, and especially our fans for constantly showing up all season. A lot of folks gave up on us after the first two games in the finals, but everybody in this locker room has confidence that we'd turn it around. Our coaches pushed all the right buttons and here we stand - CHAMPIONS! I know how difficult it is to win a title, so I will never take hoisting the cup for granted. A lot has to go your way to finish on top and there's no guarantee that you'll get back here, so I'm going to soak this up for every possible second. We grinded all year and it feels great to come out on top and especially to give a title to the best fans in the league. They never doubted us, never lost faith, and gave us one of the fiercest home field advantages in all of hockey. Next season starts soon enough, but for now we're going to savor this. Your Vancouver Wolves are champions of the world! That has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?
  12. 1. I wasn't too surprised. I knew it was going to be a back and forth series. 2. I was always confident that our coaches would put us in a position to win 3. Biggie Cheese! 4. I've got complete trust in our management to put us in a position to continue to be successful. 5. I've won two now. One with Las Vegas and one here! 6. I love our chances to repeat. Just like my Georgia Bulldogs!
  13. The holidays are a time for rest, relaxation, and most importantly - eating good food. Which good foods, exactly? I'm glad you asked! Let's countdown my top 10 favorite holiday snacks and treats. #7 - Egg nog I know this is going to be a polarizing choice, but there's something about the decadence of egg nog that stands out and earns a place on this list. I don't know that I can do more than a few healthy sips in one sitting, but man does it absolutely hit the spot. For those of legal drinking age, you can always include a splash of your favorite spirit to help warm you up! #6 - Peppermint bark Chocolate and peppermint - what's not to love? This delicious treat combines a flavor pairing that's on the list of all-time greats. Plus, you can break off a small piece to eat on the go or eat a whole heaping with a nice cup of coffee after dinner. There's just something really "holiday" about a chunk of this delicious confection. #5 - Bûche de Noël Also known as a Yule Log Cake, this dessert is up there with gingerbread when it comes to being the essence of Christmas. A wonderful rolled cake with your choice of filling, with a delicious layer of chocolate on the exterior. Definitely the centerpiece of any holiday table and it tastes fantastic, to boot! #4 - Linzer cookies This is by far the most labor intensive holiday treat on this list, but it is so worth it. Two almond flavored cookies with a layer of delicious raspberry jam in-between them? And covered with powdered sugar? Such a great treat for the holidays and the perfect mix of sweet and tart. But like I said, don't start this recipe unless you've got hours to spend - they take all day. #3 - Apple pie Is it a little boring? Sure. But there's a reason why it's been a constant fixture on the holiday dessert table for so long. It's the North Star of desserts - not the best tasting, not the most extravagant, but the one you can always count on to be really, really good. Its consistency is what sets it apart and why I always make sure it's part of my holiday menu. Throw on a scoop of vanilla ice cream to take it up a notch. #2 - Spice cake Not crazy about super sweet dishes? Spice cake is the treat for you. It's just sweet enough, but relies on the delicious combination of all those famous holiday spices. The right balance of flavor and texture will check all the boxes for you during the holiday season. Plus, combine this with a cup of coffee and you'll have the perfect cozy evening. #1 - Gingerbread cookies The undisputed GOAT of holiday treats, gingerbread stands alone atop the mountain. But it has to be homemade gingerbread with lots of ginger. It's not easy getting the right consistency, but when you get that perfect soft chew combined with the perfect royal icing? Absolutely unbeatable. Find you someone who can whip these up and you'll love them forever.
  14. 1. It did and it didn't. They're a great team, but we were absolutely firing on all cylinders. 2. We will get it done! 3. I honestly don't know - the thing I was most excited about was probably something I got when I was a kid 4. I hated getting socks back in the day. 5. It would be happiness to all my friends and family! 6. To recharge!
  15. Q: Let's look into the crystal ball to the end of your career - is Maple still wearing a Vancouver jersey? A: I hope so! I know sometimes trades and signings have to happen due to unforeseen team stuff, but I'd love to be a one-team player my entire career. Q: You've set a career high in goals, assists, points, hits, and blocks this season. What's been the impetus for that success? A: Honestly? A lot of the credit goes to my teammates. They've put me in some fantastic spots on the ice and set me up for easy goals. The coaching staff has also helped a ton when it comes to tactics and our entire on-ice philosophy. Gotta tip my cap to them. Q: You just crossed the 100 point mark for your career. Did you celebrate? Keep the puck? A: I didn't even know that happened until after the game. I was talking to my agent and he mentioned it, but I had no clue. I'm glad I got there, but obviously hope there's a lot more points in the tank. Q: Vancouver is 3rd in the conference in points. Can they hang on to that spot? A: I sure hope so. We need to finish this season strong!
  16. In a daring rescue Saturday night, Dogwood Maple rescued two dozen reindeer from certain death. It all started when he was out for a drive to look at Christmas lights with his family. After driving through the various notable neighborhoods, Maple headed out to a famous Christmas light installation about 30 miles outside of town. On the way, a huge blizzard reared its ugly head, covering the roads with inches of snow. As Maple traversed the difficult roads, he noticed something off to his right. "I looked over and I saw a huge mass of something. I couldn't tell at first, but I knew it was alive. It turns out, it was a bunch of reindeer who had gotten their antlers stuck in a barbwire fence. I think they tried to run and take shelter from the blizzard and wind, and they ended up just getting caught there," Maple explained. Knowing that he couldn't just leave them there struggling on the fence, so he sprang into action. He jumped out of the car, donned his big coat, gloves, and hat, and raced over to the group. After carefully approaching the reindeer, he reached his hand out to gain their trust. "At the end of the day, they're wild animals. I know I'm trying to help them, but they don't necessarily know that. They just see a stranger coming up to them in what could be a threatening manner. Especially when they're vulnerable how they were. So I just tried to walk up as slowly as possible and held out my hand for them to see. After a couple of them licked my hand, I felt like it was safe enough to start the rescue. I grabbed some bolt cutters from my truck and went to work." After freeing the first reindeer, the rest of the group immediately calmed down and allowed Maple to help the rest of the group. After he freed the last one, it followed Maple back to his truck to apparently say 'thank you'. "When I cut the last one loose, I figured he'd just run away like the rest of them, so I just walked back to my truck to get ready to go home. And when I turned around, he was right there behind me. He gave me a little nod as if to say thanks, before trotting off and joining the rest of the group. Hopefully they all ended up alright because that blizzard was nasty. I don't think any of them were hurt too badly by the fence, either." That wasn't the end of the story for Maple, however. When the snow subsided, he had to return back to the location and apologize to the homeowner. "I had to go apologize for cutting his fence, but he was a good sport about it. I offered to help him fix it, but he was just glad none of them were hurt. Luckily, he didn't hold it over my head or anything. I think hooking him up with some box seats to the next Wolves game helped smooth things over," Maple said.
  17. 1. I do - those are some fantastic pieces! 2. I have not seen it before, and I'm usually skeptical of the league meddling like that 3. I think this was a good move. We have a really good group in the locker room and I think we have a chance at the cup 4. Let's go out on top!!! 5. I donated to St. Jude - great idea for the league. 6. I think we're just playing better team hockey. Gotta keep it up!
  18. For the second year in a row, Dogwood Maple has won the annual Vancouver Christmas Light Display contest. This year, Maple's house was complete with 418,000 lights that were programmed to not only spell out various Christmas related phrases but also renderings of all of the Wolves players' faces. In his yard, there was a makeshift hockey rink that was lit from powerful bulbs and cast a three-dimensional picture of some of the most iconic moments in Vancouver franchise history. Around each tree in Maple's yard were color changing lights that could be edited to any conceivable colors with any hex code. On the roof, there was a full scale version of Santa's sleigh with animatronic reindeer, elves, and even the Big Man himself. When asked about going back-to-back in winning this award, Maple was stunned. "I didn't think we had a chance, to be honest. Just a week ago this place was in disarray but we worked our tails off and got it done. I'm just happy that we can use the $500,000 prize money for a good cause, the Vancouver Children's Hospital. I don't know if we can pull off the three-peat next year, so I'm going to absolutely savor this." 203 words
  19. As a first generation player, I'm uniquely equipped to offer some advice to those who are considering joining, have recently joined, or, like myself, are still in their first generation as a player. First, interact as much as you can with as many people as possible. I'm not saying you should spam chat in discord or sent 1,000 DMs to anybody you come in contact with, but don't be shy about jumping into conversations. The most obvious benefit is that you'll get noticed by general managers, which will not only help your prospects as far as the draft is concerned, but will infinitely improve your experience in the league. We all know that sim leagues can be really random when it comes to player success, so having friends you enjoy being around is paramount when it comes to having a good time here. If your player ends up with a Hall of Fame career, fantastic, but if things don't go as expected then you still have the relationships you've built. And in many ways, those are worth way more than trophies. Second, explore the forum! When I first joined, I knew the basic "how the league works" but I wasn't sure about some of the smaller details. One of the first things I did was jump into different teams' forums, read about different players' histories, and try to soak up as much knowledge as I could. It didn't take me long to get a feel for who the historically great teams were or some of the all-time great players, which helped set expectations and also provided valuable insight when it came to getting scouted by teams for the draft and free agency. It also gave me some good tips on player building as well, because I could try to long-term model my build after some of the better players at my position and try to set myself up for the best possible career I could. Third, cherish your time in VHLM. What a great experience! There's so much less pressure in VHLM as far as how your player actually performs, so you can focus on getting the hang of updating, finding out which attributes are the most important, and most importantly, build some great relationships in your locker room. I was fortunate enough to have an incredibly impactful VHLM general manager who not only helped me learn the ropes, but also instilled in me a huge amount of joy for this place. Fourth, don't be afraid to ask questions! No one is an expert at something right when they start and that's perfectly alright. I probably asked 10,000 questions when I first joined and never once did another user make me feel dumb for asking. It's the best way to learn about the league, especially if you're not used to this type of sim league. I've always found that the more I know and the more comfortable I feel, the better I'll perform in the league and that's certainly the case here. Lastly, don't worry about your players' on-ice performance the first few seasons. I know everyone wants to be the MVP, get to the Hall of Fame, and get their jersey retired by their franchise, but that takes years and years of success. Don't get down if your hot shot goal scorer doesn't find the net a lot in their rookie season, or if your rock-solid defenseman doesn't put up the hit numbers you envisioned. There's plenty of time for that as you progress and you don't want to let yourself lose any level of motivation for updating if that's how the first year or two go. Stay the course, continue to work hard, and try to have as much fun as you can! 625 words
  20. 1. I'm in favor of dropping them from the schedule entirely 2. It does surprise me, but now I know why he has such a big car 3. Leduc? I'm not going to cheat, so that'll be my guess. 4. Dogwood! Is it me? I hope it's me. 5. Can I say me again? I feel like I've gotta be right one of these times. 6. get nice visits from Santa
  21. Vancouver Wolves' forward Dogwood Maple has again turned to a charity near and dear to his heart. "I'm a dog person, anybody who knows me knows that. My wife and I have a rescue dog at home and it just breaks my heart to see so many dogs in the shelters around here. The worst part is that a lot of them could go to good homes but people sometimes just don't know about the dire situation these shelters are in. These places aren't making big bucks, they're barely surviving. And they have so many dogs to take care of that it can start to take its toll on everybody who works there. That's why I've decided to donate $1 million to each of the four main shelters in Vancouver to help with costs and to use as part of an advertising campaign so the public knows what's going on. Plus, all adoption fees for the next 12 months are fully covered," Maple explained. The executive director of one of the shelters couldn't thank Maple enough. "Dogwood comes by often just to drop off dog food or say hello to some of the dogs, so we know him pretty well. But when he stopped by yesterday to tell us about the million dollars, we were all in shock. We thought it was a joke or something at first, but I could look in his eyes and tell he was being serious," said Spike McTails. When asked what sort of impact this would have, McTails didn't hold back. "It means we can afford to give all of these dogs the proper care, veterinary treatment, and comfortable lives while they're waiting to be adopted. And we can do all that without having to stress about whether or not we can make payroll or whether or not we have to cut back on our overhead. It's life changing, not just for these animals but for all of us involved with the various shelters around here." An additional part of this campaign is to host adoption days at the Vancouver Arena. On certain off-days this year, the shelters will bring some of their dogs and set up right inside the facility, which will be open to the public. Organizers explained that the arena's great downtown location, combined with the strong fan support that the team has here will result in numerous adoptions. "I got my dog last year from the Vancouver shelter so it holds a special place in my heart," said 19 year old Kay Nine. "To see what this money will do to help not just that shelter but all of them around here is incredible. I wasn't a huge hockey fan before this, but now I'm going to have to start going to Wolves games. The fact that the organization is doing this shows their priorities and it's something I'll always remember." The Vancouver front office agreed to match the $1 million that Dogwood is giving to each shelter and has even begun a version of "bark in the park" where ticket holders can bring their dogs with them to Wolves games. "We're excited to partner with Dogwood in this venture and look forward to seeing some smiling faces and wagging tails in the arena," said Vancouver's owner. "This city has done so many great things for us that we want to give back and show our appreciation."
  22. 1. I think so! I trust management to put us in the best possible position to win 2. I've gotta play better, that will certainly be a start 3. It's always sad to see someone of his caliber leave the team 4. I'm leaving that up to the brass - they know better than I do 5. Playoffs here we come!!! 6. Santa?!
  23. Game 214: Seattle Bears vs. D.C. Dragons Seattle took over this game early in the first period, thanks to goals from Hulk Hogan and Chip Stone and they carried that 2-0 lead through the first period. In the next period, Sakamoto added a third goal for the Bears and many thought this game was headed towards a complete blowout. The Dragons managed to stop the bleeding in the second period and kept the Bears out of the goal, setting up a final period that needed a huge push from D.C. to come away with points. They answered that call by scoring just a few minutes into the third period cutting the lead to 3-1.
